John is without doubt has one of the best voices this century has seen. You can tell how good is he when he sounds as brilliant without any backing as he does with it. Has always given 120 percent at all of his concerts I've had the pleasure to be at .

I beg to differ. John's live performances are better than his recordings. He is the ultimate performer, and he is inhibited by the studio. (In my opinion only). He comes alive in front of an audience.

I've been listening to this guy since primary school in Rockhampton in the sixties. He was Made Australian of the year in 1987. We can't loose this world class genius. Long life John. Was crammed into The Colonnades Tavern in Adelaide to see John with LRB in 1986 thinking I have loved you since I was very little but you are gonna be huge again. Then a little album called Whispering Jack exploded not long after and as they say the rest is history.

Saw John at Bondi Junction shopping centre in about 1977/78. Close enough to touch. He's not a big man but the energy, passion and pure delight he emits when performing is incredible. Never forgot it! Love this song!!

Same age mate, parents would have likely been watching and recording it off of Prime/Channel 7 while nursing me, would have been almost 6 months old at the time. Watched the shit out of it during my young years. Still have the functioning copy 26 years later. Good old VHS. Mind you we lived at Eagle Vale (Campbelltown, NSW) then and we had a rabbit ear antenna but mostly picked up Wollongong stations so it was recorded from Prime. Halfway through the concert whoever was manning the Pause button must have fallen asleep because all the adds started getting recorded as well haha. Love watching it on the VHS every now and then.

I miss living back then, a lot more people were musically interested back then, and it shows. Now it's noise regulation this, and corporate backed music that. Johnny was just an incredibly talented singer no matter what road was taken. The talent pool and opportunity was way bigger for sure. If you've got the ear and talent, I suppose it doesn't matter anyway. Instead of surfing the net for 2 hours of a night, you'd be jamming with your mates instead. Pro muso's would have been playing day and night.
