Ruth Neudeck was born as Ruth Hartmann on 5 July 1920 in Breslau, then part of the Weimar Republic, which was the name given to the German government from 1918 - 1933.
When Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany in January 1933, Ruth was only 12 years old.
As Hitler rose to power, Nazi propaganda became inescapable in Germany. Joseph Goebbels, head of the new Propaganda Ministry, created a cult of personality that glorified Hitler as Germany’s infallible savior. Nazi propaganda dominated the press, film, radio, and public spaces. Portraits or statues of Hitler appeared everywhere, and every city and town renamed a street or public space to honor him. In public, Germans were expected to praise Hitler and give the so-called German greeting "Heil Hitler!".
The Second World War started on 1 September 1939 when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. When the war broke out, Ruth, then 19 years old, worked as a payroll accountant. In July 1944, she arrived at the Ravensbrück concentration camp to begin her training as a camp overseer. At that time, she was already married to a man named Neudeck. Ravensbrück, opened in May 1939, was the only major women's camp established by the Nazis.
Ravensbrück camp was staffed both by SS men, who served as guards and administrators, and by 150 women, who served as supervisors.

One thing that has struck me watching your videos is how easily completely unremarkable everyday people became sadistic torturers and murderers when given the opportunity. I already knew this had happened from studying history but seeing the pictures of these individuals and hearing their stories really illuminates the horror of what took place and how the opportunity to be violent without consequences was too seductive for these individuals to pass up. Sadly, this is part of the human condition and given the same chance today many seemingly ordinary people could easily become violent torturers. That is why we can never stop telling these stories as a cautionary tale for future generations.

What you really are saying is that anyone in similar circumstances could become a ruthless killer. That trait exists in all of us. It only awaits activation. Misfortune abounds for everyone.

I've always been under the impression that these people did these things because they were basically coerced into doing them. If they didn't do these things, a lot of times there would be pretty severe consequences. However, if they did this "dirty" work, and did it well, often times these people could work their way up the beauracracy. I'm not saying it was right, but after going through a pretty severe depression just 10 years prior, it's easy to see how people could get involved in this type of behavior. Again I'm not saying it was right, but a severe economic depression can cause people to do some pretty extreme things.

Exactly! The condemnation at the end is my favorite part. And he pronounces the Russian and Japanese names, places and events just as flawlessly as the German language.

Even though it no longer shocks me to hear and read of people who commit atrocities against humanity, it is still disgusting and infuriating, nonetheless, to know that some people are capable of committing cruel and horrible acts. Ruth Neudeck was one of those such monsters who inflicted suffering upon innocent civilians in the concentration camps where she worked as an SS member. It is astounding and disturbing that some women were just as capable of those evil actions as some men are. Thank you for this eye-opening video of yet another war criminal who met justice at the end of a hangman's noose.

When I was in middle school, I had not been told by anyone about the Holocaust. I took a book out of the library, thinking it was simply about a young girl who lived during WWII. It turned out to be a story of a young Jewish girl living during WWII. It was the first time I heard what happened to the Jews during WWII. NOT AT SCHOOL! NOT FROM MY PARENTS! NOT FROM ANY EDUCATION SOURCE! In a book I simply, by chance, took out of the library. This was in the mid 1960’s.

Ignorant response that shows an absolute lack of history. I am not defending Germany, but as Americans we forget the extermination of the Native Americans (upwards of 4 million) and the deaths of enslaved Africans who also amounted to 4 million dead in the Middle Passage to say nothing of the lynchings and murders all around the country during Jim Crow. For that matter, you forget slavery and Jim Crow altogether. But then, Americans are never guilty of anything. Clean you own house. (Sorry, I just happen to be a historian, so the truth turns out never to be as simple as your simple minds would like it to be.)
