Just from personal experience - avoid intense exercise (including lifting heavy weights) particularly when you’re new to fasting. Walking, possibly a light jog, stretching/yoga, body weight/light weights. Anything more is a great way to feel like shit; and possibly dangerous for some people.

I like to go on a 10-20 mile bike ride while I'm fasting. It helps to burn up all the glycogen quickly so I get into ketosis faster and benefit more.

Once you’ve fasted long enough and in ketosis, the energy level feels “steady” rather than a “sudden large” amount. I prefer longer activity rather than exercise that requires intense bursts of energy.

It's really depends. How much glycogen you have in your muscles from the previous feed. It depends how well your body is able to become fat adapted, to start using ketones as a fuel source. It depends on how low your calorie intake over the week is. It depends on electrolytes, sleep, stress and dehydration.

Just to add to this. Remember to drink your electrolytes. Pretty much anything with no carbs or sugar will keep you fasted. Supplements, multivitamins and all that that. Most importantly don't forget your sodium. If you can buy electrolytes with sodium just drink some sea salt.

I can not exercise when I do prolonged fast. I don' t drink elektrolytes because I can not find one w/o sugar here on the island. So when I do prolonged fast 3 to 7 days, I can not exercise. I drink water with pink salt, never had a headache or cramps. Only years ago when I did fast for the 1st time. I hope to be able to order some good elektrolytes online someday. When I do intermitted fasting I can exercise. When I do omad, also. No problem

I’m a Fung fan and do IF regularly, however…I’ve had this happen two times to me playing padel while fasted and that did NOT got well for me : the second time I had to stop playing after 30min and had to lie down feet up to keep from fainting….Never again. I’m always eating some healthy carbohydrates before exercising.

Interesting, I had the same thing!! I started eating keto and carnivore on my non fasting days…it helped. I figured it meant that I had no drop in sugar as my body stayed in a fat burning state 24/7 and never had to change between the two…which likely caused the dizzy spells during crazy HIIT workouts. Would love to hear someone like Dr Fung or Dr Chaffee’s opinion on my theory though😋 Coz I can now burn 2500 calories in 2 hours of HIIT exercise, before I would redline at 500-700calories in an hour.

This is true, I trained while fasting, it helps with energy levels and I don't get stomach cramps. Plus my mind is clearer. I keep my foods boring and clean. It saved me from cancer and it helps with my Hashimoto's. But people keep thinking what I'm doing is dangerous and stupid. But I've been doing this for five years. Although, if you overfast, you'll need to make sure to take vitamins to ensure you don't suffer malnutrition. My body can't absorb some foods, do I take it in liquid sometimes

Just my personal experience: I found that doing CF type weight lifting hot easier for me on fasting days when I started doing carnivore on non fasting days. But I reckon that was because I now stayed in a fat burning state, so power was constant (no carb sugar dips) and my protein was high, do recovery was pretty quick. Not sure if thats the science behind it, but just what helped for me. (Before my lifting was weak and recovery took forever)

Drink electrolytes and more salt, you’re lacking in those areas if you’re not eating or eating once a day you shouldn’t feel that way at all. If you’re doing water only you’re definitely deficient in what I said earlier. Trust me there’s 0 calorie powder with all the vitamins you need just have to look for which one you like or taste.

I'm a recent carnivore convert -about 3 months. Just closed out my 36 hour fast with a killer shoulder, bi, tri, calf circuit workout at the gym! One of my best workouts ever (don't have a ketone tester, but I'm sure they was flowing and ketoning!!💪🏽). Yesterday (day one of fast) I did my normal chest routine at the gym too which was excellent! ... This was my longest fast. I was gonna go 72 hrs minimum, but then I remembered I had beef thawed in the fridge already and didn't want to refreeze... Figured since this was my first 24hr+ fast, it was good enough. Ill be scheduling in the 72hr fast in the near future, and plan ahead with nothing thawed out initially! Should probably mention I still had my cup of black coffee before the gym. Also today I pounded down a LMNT electrolyte drink pre workout as well. LFG 🥩

Endurolyte uses ginger powder to reduce upset stomach from ingesting salt on an empty stomach. Pink salt works good too. Teaspoon stirred into warm water, morning and night. Dehydration is from lack of salt, salt imbalance. You will pee out any excess. You can even smell it.

I do exercise on my 3 days fast. 1st day I lift heavy plus my normal activities like walking the dog , going to work etc . 2nd day its hardest for me and i only walk plus my other normal activities, 3rd its the easiest and feel like I can do anything 💪 but i do suffer feeling really cold in my 3rd day doesn’t matter how much I move and exercise.

You already fasting every night when you go to sleep. Name Breakfast is from Break your fast. Its mean you already doing it. If you sleep 8h push breakfast or diner little bit more.. Start to get total fasting to 12h then when you feel ok with 12h next time go little bit more... First you need to learn to listen to your body. You need to understand what your body is saying when to stop and what its saying. I would recommend first try with juice fasting... With that you will learn to listen to your body. You will learn if you have any sugar or coffee or cigarettes or some other addiction ... You will lear how thats feels. Then when you will go to water fasting you will recognise if its some adiction whats talking to you or your body is saying something.... P. S If you go with juice fasting remember if you will use some sugary fruit then see how you feel. If you get similar feeling like from energy drink. Quick energy but soon after you feel tired. then you should diluded your juice with water to 50:50 or 75:35... Find your sweet spot were you have your energy steady all day without crashing. If you dont diluded your sugary fruit juice with water you may get insulin spike and thats why you get ups and down... Good luck!!! To ease your mind buy glucose meter for diabetic people. Thats why you will be able to calm your mind if you feel strange... Dont drink too quick water.Dont force it. Drink slowly that way you will not flush your electrolytes and you will not need supplement them. But its ok if you flush to quick and start feeling dizzy just put lit bit himalay salt in your water to get electrolytes back in norm... Just listen to your body dont force it. Remember better to stop fasting when you feel great. That way you will fast again if you force it you will not like fasting so much and you will do less... if you are doing extended fasts (2+ days) you definitely shouldn't lift weights to failure and break down your muscle because you aren't consuming any protein to build it back up. do some calisthenics, pushups, squats, situps, etc. but not to the point of failure or you will be hurting. this will signal body to preserve muscle mass.

Movement is ok but if someone do hard exercise with fasting it will be difficult to the body to recover after working out.. especially with 24 or 72 hours of fasting. Advice on post-exercise fasting from someone who neither exercises, fasts, or studies exercise nutrition. His oversimplification is not only not helpful, but counter productive. The point of focused exercise is to tear down muscle in a controlled manner, and feed it branched chained and "indispensable" amino acids (no longer called essential amino acids) as you have long deep sleep. Your body can make glucose, but it can't make indispensable amino acids (by definition of "indispensable"). 1gram protein per Kg of body weight, per strength/cardio day. After meaningful exercise your body craves protein to build back better. Fasting for more than half a day after exercise is just depriving your sore muscles and your tired cardio system of the nutrients it needs to benefit from the exercise. In fact, the 45min window of time immediately after exercise is most important for amino uptake.

Yes, its great but let your body get used to fasting first! I would say only start doing it after 6 months of fasting daily (16h). Otherwise you might get lightheaded and all the not so fun stuff. I couldn't even walk around the block and yet they declared me healthy. I asked God to help me. An eight day fast came to mind. By day two, my heartbeat regulated. The four, my belly was much flatter, and the anxiety attacks went away. Once I was done, I was able to do small workouts and even walk around the block. Mind you I was only 180 lbs.

This seems counter top most of the scientific literature out there and basic physiology. Are these statements just conjecture?
