I always wonder why they make the pipes stainless, but not the flanges! Nice job on the repair, Matt!

Thanks man!

At guess its probably cheaper to manufacture because of the thickness of the flange.

Some places that make stainless exhausts weld them up with standard mild steel and they fall to bits on weld 3 years later.....not so easy to tell when they are new cos they are all polished up.

They make both parts in both materials. It's your job to ensure you're using matching materials.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who runs into these automotive SNAFUs where there just seems to be no way forward no matter what you do. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Is it possible to cut off the flange from other side of the converter and weld a new one to the converter i’m having same issue just on side with the front pipe and resonator i already have new pipe don’t want to have to buy new converter and have to do same job your doing because it’s just as bad almost on that side as well where the pipe meets

Great video! I'm cheap AND lazy. I would have just ground out the damaged bolt hole on the flange or just do a good job cleaning up the area with a wire wheel. Then, I would have welded on either a nut or two or three thick washers where the bolt hole was. Remove and replace the rest of the rusted bolts and bolt the two flanges together. Less welding and work on removing parts. And no need to buy any other parts. I do like watching your technique though.

you should have sprayed on some penetrating oils... wd40 or 556, best if you had done that the day before... thx for sharing.

Why didn't you just cut the box back a little then insert the tube in the hole? you do realize the exhaust is now shorter than it were.

What I learned from this video: MattsMotorz isn't worth listening to for quality repairs.
