Three things worry me: (1) direct injection: oil dilution and carbon buildup in valves (2) freaking Takata airbags (who know, TLX may have them and Acura has recalled them yet) (3) Honda/Acura paint problem. I've never had any unreasonable mechanical issues with any honda I've ever owned. I think the engine reliability for Honda is second to none, and Toyota overall reliability is fantastic. Toyotas are built for pragmatists and Hondas are built for people who enjoy driving (for the most part). I have a 2018 tlx v6 advance CPO and the car is great. The v6 is awesome and the p-aws makes the car handle great. It is not a 330i competitor, but it is an introductory luxury sports sedan competitor. I recommend it.

Wow awesome review video! Actually learned more from watching this video than from 2 other in-depth reviews of the TLX! Especially about the audio system! I actually came from a 3rd gen TL 6-speed. Absolutely loved that car! Only gripes about it were the build quality. Leather seats were worse than today’s luxury car vinyl seats. My dashboard had sprouted 2 cracks on the instrument binnacle and above the passenger airbag cover. Looked like someone stabbed the plastic dashboard with a machete. Acura refused to cover it under warranty and the car was 3 years old with about 30K miles on it. (The Acura dealership said that they had so many people complaining about it and bringing it in for warranty work that Honda stopped reimbursement to the dealership that the dealership began charging customers for work while still under the basic warranty period.) Sold it shortly after at a loss and later got a ‘13 E92. Also, I recently saw a red TLX where the paint was all faded on the roof and hood. Kind of crazy thinking that it’s at oldest a 2015 model. How has your TLX held up in terms of paint and build quality? Again, awesome review!
@SonNguyen-mk2wq3 жыл бұрын
ZF on the V6 doesn't have "issues." It's disappointing. I mean that as in there is nothing mechanically wrong with it. Its performance is lackluster with the way Acura tuned it. It wasn't made for fwd setups to begin with, and sh-awd is still fwd favored even under full acceleration. With that being said, it has held up so far with performance and feel being the only real complaints. Valid complaints certainly, given the price point but nothing that will leave you in fear of standing on the side of the highway.

I owned a '16 TLX Advance FWD for 3 years. Thoroughly enjoyed that car. I drive a lot and don't keep my cars very long and always buy slightly used vehicles. I wanted a '19 TLX Advance to replace my '16. After months of searching, I could never find one to suit me. I very reluctantly decided on a '20 Accord Touring 2.0T. As much as I loved my Acura, I have zero regrets buying my Accord. This car is so dang good! Eventually, I'll get back into an Acura but for now I am loving my Honda. I've owned 8 Acura vehicles and 10 Hondas. Honestly, I don't ever recall having any serious issues with any of them. The only thing that comes to mind is having issues with warped rotors. Most of them didn't have that issue but about 3 of them did. The worst was my '10 Acura TSX V6 Tech. Had to have those rotors turned twice in less than 30k miles.

Problems I had with my TSX: 1) Air conditioning leaking into the car and frying the computer. Fixable by disconnecting the hose under the passenger set and unclogging it. 2) power drain while car wasn't running (car was 14 years old). 3) Trunk leak Still a pretty good car. 140k miles/ 14 years old when I got rid of it. Made in Japan. Headlights were never replaced. I now have a TLX. I like it too. But I feel like it isn't as well made as the TLX, even though it has more features. I will probably continue to buy Acuras though.

From my time working on my Mercury. I will tell you one thing most the car community is immature about. Every vehicle the moment it rolls off the assembly line is different. Maybe the parts the factory got in that day were poorer quality then the cars before it. Maybe the engineer fell asleep on his desk while designing and completely lost track. Maybe the machines and welders putting the car together were having breakdowns. Maybe, just maybe that batch of grease going into the bearings or the cast for the block was just a bad batch. Every car is different. Especially with a manufacturer who has a high reliability reputation. There are some Crown Vics that lasted 800k. There are some that lasted only 60k! Sure you got lucky with that Civic. But one that was built just months later probably has a poorly put on pulley by some overworked mechanic at a dealership, now it's just a ticking time bomb. In all my time scrounging around the engine bays. I noticed that no two cars will have the same problem. No two owners will deal with the same problem the same way. And you are damn sure that if a mechanic, shade tree or professional, or even a DIYer does anything about it. You know there is a chance they did it wrong and not even know it. I say this in defense of you and those who have common sense. Its a shame the opening words for a video that is meant to help people make a financial decision on such a nice vehicle is calming down the jerkoffs who don't understand cars in the slightest. Anyways now to why I am here. The Mercury is getting older and is going to go down as a project car. I wanted something with the same reliability, luxury and isnt going to eat my paycheck at the pump. Buddy of mine actually recommended one of these. I have to say I really am in love with the look of these things. Hard part is finding one that doesnt want 7k down.

I have a 2016 TLX tech pack V-6 FWD which I bought certified used 4/19. These are a great value for the price and the 3.5L engine is sneaky fast. Only complaint, and I haven't had major issues yet, is that when in econo mode and you try a quick acceleration when between 25-40 mph, there is a big pause before you literally zoom forward. Only glitch that I have with that transmission issue that many people complain about. When in normal or sport mode, not really an issue. Also, the speakers in the back doors are horrible! Changed them out once while still under warranty and now they are back to buzzing when cranked under certain atmospheric conditions, seriously. Rest of the sound system sounds great! Rear door speakers just suck!

I find the Acura TLX and Infiniti q50 are just the right size. But with the TLX with the 4cyl and V6 I have heard so many complaints even with its cousin the Honda Accord. I have had my tlx tech package for 2 yrs now. Got it with 119k miles 2016 awd sh . I have added 30k miles, and the main issue is the jerky transmission. I would say it's not as refined as it could be. It tends to not up shift when city driving and the mpg is about 15mpg. However, on a long-distance highway with cruise control, i have gotten 40mpg. The suspension is not the best for rough city roads. I get the random dashboard lights, exhaust system, collision warning, transmission, etc. I have on a couple of occasions with 2hrs+ of highway spirited driving, gotten a transmission overheating warning, which completely cuts power! Had to pull over. Brought into the Acura dealership, scanned it, and they found no electrical issues, no codes whatsoever. Made me want to updrade! The car really shines with the engine in sport mode. Highway driving between 50mph and 85mph depending on which governed stretch of highway youre on, the transmission tends to perform better, almost forgivable. The handling is great, and the awd-sh system is really good. Check out some of youtube's roller video tests for different awd systems. It's near the top, beating out many higher priced manufacturers ( lexus, etc). It is a bargain if you can live with these..,if not, then i think the 2.4 would be the way to go. Sometimes, i wish i did. But the 290hp v6 makes up for a lot. It is not a cheap car as i now have to change injectors and belts and do the normal 120k mile servicing, which an Acura dealership quoted me at $2k. Also, the high-pressure fuel pump started making noise, which is another $2k. Hopefully, I'll get some sort of discount. The car was in fair condition for only $17k. I'd rather put tgat $4k somewhere else as the car is still more than drivable and very quick.

@Xilent1 I see. you cant beat lexus' reliability. i dont care about how a car looks and drives ( A spec TLX) reliabilty is the #1 factor. it makes up for any shortcomings many times over. I know the price you got is amazing but spend a little extra, get the lexus. I was broke when i got that Acura. If i had moderate cash i would have gotten a low milege full sized lexus. Im 6ft 4 inches and i just cant get a cheaper car that fits me comfortably save a used accord or acura. Honda has some way to go with their electronics to catch toyota. They're way more fun but thats about it. With that said a 2.4 tlx is sh awd i would take over toyota because it would be had for less cash and would drive a bit more sporty. Hope i helped.

@@elijahfrancis9889 It does help. Thanks. I love Hondas, but the Acura electronic dash issues are ridiculous and seems to still persist. I would rather get a Honda Touring over the Acura sadly. I'm a Honda/Acura fan, but will be switching to Lexus IS350. The problem I have with this is, its hard to find. I may have to have it shipped out of state from the Dealership I find one at. I swear, cars I want are hard to find. I really want the Mark Levinson sound with it, but may have to opt out since the car itself is hard to find or settle for a IS250 over the IS350, I can live with the carbon issues for that model by having it blasted as they call it. Good luck with your Acura. I still think those are great cars, just not perfect, but what car is?

@@Xilent1 my goal is to get an accord touring for safe keeping ( storage). I only went tlx for snow traction. If I can possibly get the mdx as well. Also get one of the newer 440+miles electric vehicles once the price settles and the bugs get sorted out. Electric is the future and I want to enjoy it before it comes the norm and becomes expensive. Some insane deals and tax incentives are to be had nowadays. So for emergencies, the most reliable petrol vehicles I know..(.camry and corolla have become overpriced and overhyped.) And the most efficient form of transportation factoring tax incentives etc is electric. A model y is possible the best deal right now for a daily city banger (250mile range) Huge price cuts on it right now. I think a model 3 is about the sample price now or a couple of hundreds more expensive. 400miles for $20 is crazy

I live down South so snow isn't much of an issue, though I'm from Chicago and visit. To my understanding, Electric vehicles don't charge well during extreme cold. I have to do more research honestly. The tax incentives are true and I should do more research on that as well. If I were to buy an electric vehicle, it would be Tesla considering they started the trend for others to follow. I've been telling people, the leaders in Petrol may not be the leaders in Electric cars. If you have any articles or videos names on KZbin to share with more info on Electric cars and tax benefits, I'll be more than interested to check it out. Happy and safe driving bro.

When it came to the dashlights coming on. It happened a lot with me in an 09 Acura ILX. Seems to happen when I drove through a lot of water or down pours. Not much any other time. I think the Tire sensor got wet and caused the issues. Also, I had to be careful about washing my car and drenching the tires. Scary at first as it was my 1st Acura. Interesting to hear its a common problem in Acuras. Still thinking about getting a 2019 TLX A-Spec V6-SHAWD version in the next couple months.

I just bought a 2016 Acura TLX V6 One owner pretty low miles after totaling my 2012 Acura TL. I didn’t know that Acura’s rep was the cheapest Luxury cars. I’ve always liked them since high school my first car was an integra. But it does make sense though, other luxury imports (Lexus, infinity, etc) are a tad bit classier but I always looked at Acura as pretty luxury tho. And the difference between the TL and TLX is mad crazy. I purchased it from a big Acura dealership here in a major city. They offered me a warranty similar to yours which I found crazy even existed. It was $2800 for 4 years of ANY problem from cosmetic engine HVAC anything besides tune ups like oil change etc. even tho I doubt I’ll run into a long list of problems or any major ones at cuz I agree with you that these cars are made to last. The AC settings are annoying as fuck tho. Other than that it’s luxury looking enough outside n specially interior will impress the girls for the most part. And u were right, it was cheap too!

I bought a 2016 Acura TLX in may of 2019. The only issue I have had is a slight vibration coming from the front drivers side tire. That tire was replace before and then caused a vibration only when I get to about 80mph. It doesn't vibrate below that. I have owned many brands of autos including Toyota and Honda/Acura is the best. I only buy used vechicles because of the price. Used vechicles with low miles. The problem is not serious and could be due to balance issues when I used flat fixer on one of my tires that had a razor blade in it. I fixed it and then had the vibration issue but only when I get over 80mph.

That is awesome so happy for you and your new purchase. And yes the 4 cylinder cars do that its unfortunate and I understand its a bit unrefined the V6 doesn't really do that but 4 cylinders do that to save fuel...so Ive heard but its almost like a manual car that's on the verge of stalling (not that bad of course) but I've noticed that on multiple 4 cylinder Acuras.
