This is what happens to all people groups that are conquered and removed/exiled. They are lost/merged/assimilated. The gods of their culture are usually abandoned (they lost: gods couldn't give them victory:: false or weak gods). Their language is absorbed/lost/diluted as the new generations learn the languages of the host nations. The one exception is the remnant of Hebrew/Israelite population -- the Judahites/Jews and Levites (priestly tribe). They kept their religion and God and kept their language Hebrew (both written and oral) and their culture even after 2,000 years. This makes the remnant of the nation of Israel - the Judahites/Jews - unique in all of human history.

While I find this content fascinating I take issue from a historical perspective with the use of the word/phrase "Jew" or "Jewish" to describe ancient Hebrews. The word/phrase "Jew" or "Jewish" was used to describe a particular group of Hebrews during ancient times. This term was not used by the other 11 tribes or ethnicities who made up the entirety of the Hebrew peoples. Both the peoples of Judah and Israel or Mizraim were Hebrew but not all of them were "Jews". This is akin to calling Black Americans from the early 1900s in the US "African-Americans". That is historically inaccurate and provides a sanitised version of history that's not correct. While these terms or descriptors are used interchangeably in contemporary times they are not the same thing from an accurate historical perspective. Just something to consider when developing such content for KZbin.

It's been my understanding that the word "Jew" came from the word "Judean"-- which referred to anyone who was a citizen or inhabitant of Judea. What is strange is "non-Jews" also were citizens of Judea, and hence referred to as Judean as well simply signifying "any inhabitant of Judea.'' When the word "Judean" was replaced with "Jew".. Jew was a reference to all Judeans including Gentiles because some Judeans were Gentiles.. and Samaritans also.

I'm an African American and I don't quite understand your point about applying the term African American to my ancestors from the early 20th century. In my mind, they were 'African Americans' if we understand this term to be a sort of ethnic designation. I think you are making a semantic argument, that people who had lived in the US for around 300 years would not have been 'African' anymore, but that is not what 'African American' should be understood to mean. It is not literal. Otherwise, I have the same thoughts whenever I hear the ancient northern tribes referred to as "Jews". I've noticed even modern Samaritans struggle with getting people to understand that they are Israelites but not Jews.

The six days, in Genesis one, is the six months when the sun appears to be in the northern hemisphere (Aries thru Virgo). Lost ten tribes were never really "lost". According to archaeology, after their defeat at the hands of Assyrians, the vast majority of northern kingdom population simply migrated south and joined the kingdom of Judah. This is why the population of Judah suddenly exploded at this point. This clash of groups with slightly different beliefs and stories is likely what motivated creation of codified Pentateuch. Also, several textual sources from the Second Temple period of Judah have their authors referring to themselves as all ten tribes, not just one or two... See e.g. Ezra 6:17 for start.

What a lot of confusion. The lost 10 tribes of Israel were not Jews. Israel are never referred to as Jews in the Bible. Jews and Israelites were two different tribes and Kingdoms. The tribe and Kingdom of Israel and the tribe and Kingdom of Judea, from which the word Jew came. What we call the lost 10 tribes were the real Israel. They were invaded by the Assyrians in 700 BC and taken north from where they migrated into Europe. The Jews remained in their homeland Judea and were still there during Jesus time 700 years later. The Israelites migrated north into Europe and were thus considered 'lost' because no one knew where they went. Few know the exact identity of the descendants of Israel today although it is very plain from both the Bible and history. They became known as the Saxons which means Isaac's sons, one proof that they were the direct descendants of Isaac or Israel. Among other clear hints and clues one of the greatest is that it is only these people, the Anglo Saxons and other West European nations, that inherited all the blessings given to Abraham and his desendants of great national wealth and world domination which they still enjoy today. There is no space to go into details here but it is very clear from both the Bible and history who the descendants of the lost 10 tribes of Israel are today. This talk of Pakistanis and Indians and Africans being the lost tribes of Israel is all rubbish. God made sure that they remained a pure race by going into Europe which was virtually sparsely inhabited in those days and thus not mix with other races. Today they dominate the world in everything, just as was promised to their ancient fathers Isaac and Jacob and their direct desendants. I think the sympathetic and intelligent lady is very well aware of the parable‘s meaning. All of these commenters getting hung up on the definition of Jews and Israelites are ignoring the fact that many in the 10 northern tribes moved to Judah or ended up in other territories which would later be conquered by one or another such that they would encompass most of the Israelite descendants who stayed in that region of the world. While the term "Jew" may have then referred only to the subjects of Judah, after the Babylonian exile, many must have reunited in religion in later generations. In the modern era, the term "Jew" refers to the Israelites.

Only the house of Judah returned to their homeland and a few Ephraimites but only to be disperse again after the Romans destroyed Jerusalem.
