Do JWs believe in Original Sin? I used to listen to several of wacky priests on this site when I was a devout Catholic in a parish that may have been a cult (but nowhere near as intense as Watchtower thankfully) and one of them once said something very similar in one of his sermons, when I was on my way out one of my then friends who was educated in a fundie Catholic college in California once told us the real reason why we must oppose abortion at all costs was that according to Augustine (a famous theologian from the 4th century) said that babies without baptism just go straight to hell instead of limbo like I believed because of Original Sin (and he created that doctrine in its current form even though it’s never explicitly mentioned in the Bible, it’s how the Catholic Church justifies baptizing babies so when do JWs get baptized?). To say the least that infuriated me and really made me question the goodness of the Christian God in general, I think my faith was on its last legs by that point since it all fell apart months after that incident.

Okay, the country song is where I lost it. You can see the desperate attempts of the organization to appeal to as many as they can with these music videos, dramas and testimonials. I remember when my dad was talking to another brother about a 3rd brother who said he was feeling weak. My dad said, "This is no time to get weak now." That was probably 40 years ago. He sincerely believed the teachings, and I'm glad he died that way rather than having to walk away after more than half a lifetime like I did. Yes, it's tough, and the longer you're in, the tougher it is to leave, even with so many doubts. Like you said, the old "sunken cost" argument.

Ironically, as I was watching this video, there was an advertisement for a ballot question aimed at ginning up support for expanded gambling here in Missouri. The main claim of the spot is that ‘it’ll raise more money for the schools’. My immediate response is: “Isn’t that what you said about the lottery? How’s that working out for you?” Obviously, it hasn’t happened. What’s more, the Right has put forth every effort to cut and gut funding for public schools and transfer that money to private (read “religious”) schools. Meanwhile, the gullible saps continue spending money they don’t even really have on the numbers even though experience tells them that the chances of winning are practically nil. This religious cult made me waste not only 10years of my life as an adult but 10 crucial years of my kids life🤬 my oldest daughter woke me up 2 years ago. I left my husband with my 3 daughters. Divorce was final in May this year🎉 We are starting our new life as I now have to do damage control with my youngest that grew up in a spiritual homeschooled bubble.
