8:42 I remember learning that Lehi was following a prophet. I couldn't tell you the reference. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember from seminary. I also remember the teacher pulling out a Bible reference that said "prophets" because it was referring to Lehi. :)

It’s definitely a foundational classic. I think the New Testament is a good read. I struggle throughout parts of the Old Testament that don’t seem relevant. I find it strange that the Bible is often taken literally because I don’t think most of it was meant for that.

If you were standing in the middle of Jerusalem at any point in time prior to 70 CE and your were preaching that the city would fall to invading armies, you had a pretty good chance of being absolutely right or very close. Yahweh had promised you a land flowing well milk and honey, but what he failed to mention was that you were going to be this tiny kingdom forever SURROUNDED BY 2 or 3 HUGE COMPETING EMPIRES that would periodically invade, subdue, control, occupy, and eventually destroy you. Thanks a ton, Yahweh!😂
