In part 7 of Jordan Peterson’s Exodus series, the table discusses chapters fifteen through eighteen, specifically, God parting the Red Sea, Moses leading the Israelites out of tyranny, Pharaoh’s Egyptian army dissolving, the influence memorizing the Israelite song had on their perspective, and God providing mercy and nourishment through manna in response to hunger with the exception of the Sabbath. The scholars address the right hand of God, study of science as an apprenticeship, crossover of order and chaos, freely chosen consent, plagues brought about by tyranny, prayer and daily remembrance, and the human condition.

Funny, but really, mass readings are directed to Jesus Christ and his love and sacrifice for us. The Teological teachings of Bible history are the ones giving us all this cool stuff 😎 not all churches have a deacon priest or theologian taking the time during their week to address this reading, but the ones who do are sadly usually fill with elderly people that barely fill 1/4 of the room.

You are apparently not aware that the Mass brings us into the very throne room of God in heaven, where we are united to the Trinity by Eucharistic communion. God became man (Jesus) who became a wafer of bread for us to consume, to literally eat His flesh. Read Scott Hahn’s The Lamb’s Supper, or look for his many videos on the channel for the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. These discussions are great, and how wonderful it would be if the homilies weren’t so often dull, but God With Us is greater.

I would suggest that perhaps you can listen to the Mass as every part of ii is Biblical and is the most miraculous event you will ever experience when Christ takes the form of Bread and Wine. Too many have ears, but don't hear and eyes but don't see! Christ is giving you his Body and Blood! Don't you want to receive it?

From Rashi's commentary, (Dennis should have known this): "Miriam, the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took: When did she prophesy? When she was [known only as] “Aaron’s sister,” before Moses was born, she said, “My mother is destined to bear a son” [who will save Israel], as is found in Sotah 12b, 13a). Another explanation: [It is written] Aaron’s sister since he [Aaron] risked his life for her when she was afflicted with zara’ath; [thus] she is called by his name" (Mechilta).

As one who has the responsibility of choosing songs to be sung in worship services, I was struck by that bit about ritual being a vehicle for committing biblical (or any) truth to memory. It is vitally important to me to use care when choosing songs, so that what is being committed to the memory, the heart, of the people stays true to our spiritual values. This is why many of the newer Christian songs don’t get chosen. The music may be beautiful and the tunes easily singable, but the words fall short of biblical accuracy. Thanks for bringing these thoughts to mind. Your discussions inform and encourage me.

I agree. Jordan Peterson is trying to understand the Bible through a non believers perspective. He must be born again to see that the songs and hymns are not only praises to God but their is a spiritual anointing on these scriptures that can only be given full revelation from the Holy Spirit. The Word of God and his laws are alive and ever flowing.

@1995yuda
@1995yuda Жыл бұрын
@@kevinkelly2162 Well, this has been answerd in numerous ways from multiple angles by different Scholars in various fields. One answer is that the ancient egyptians didn't just record history objectively, but rather told a version of history that served them. In other words, their history is propaganda. Why would they record such things who harm their image? Second approach is identifying some of my forefathers the israelites with Hyksos, Shasu and other groups who's history conforms with israelite history in Canaan and Egypt. Even the Torah itself supports this interpretive direction. But this is all beside the point, which is that there are linguistic, cultural, relligious, structural, ritualistic and philosophical heavy Egyptian presence among the Israelites and the Bible, which ties the israelites, their/our culture and the Torah to ancient egypt's royal innermost closed chambers. You can watch Jan Assman's lecture on Egypt and Israel here on youtube, he's practically the best living Egyptologist and he is fluent in the Torah as well. In his lecture he compares and contrast egypt and israel to show both similarities and differences.

The name for “ tambourine” ( also called timbres) comes from a section in exodus know in Hebrew Shirat Miriam ( song of the sea) which includes the verse “ and Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbre. Centuries later, prophecy remembers her as equal to Moses and Aaron in representing God before the people, and as the inaugurator of the performance and composition tradition of song, drums and dance in Israel. It is my thesis that the Bible describes 2 crossings: 1. In Goshen, a battle where Moses used tide to defeat an Egyptian army; in the see of reeds. Which confirmed the Hebrews to flee Egypt. 2. When the Hebrews reached the Red Sea (a dead end), and the Egyptian army chased them. Then the tide created a passage with the reef, which allowed the Hebrews to cross.

Yes, scripture interprets scripture and the Old Testament needs to be read in the light of the New Testament because the Bible is an organic and epochal revelation of God’s plan of salvation. Soteriology is the key to Biblical interpretation not psychology or some other map of meaning.

Note that the temple had two pillars (Boaz and Jachin) that the priest would pass through that also represents the leading of male & female generations with fertility symbols representing the promise of generations. The priest would then pass through the bowl of seas which is the leaving behind a...washing away to then present ourselves before the place of sacrifice, promise & revelation. Passing through the waters where they parted twice. Once for the fleeing leaving behind (Red Sea) & the other for the promise (Jordan River). This is the story of truth of salvation in the fleeing from that which is evil to the journey & the promise of new life (Pilgrims Progress). This is reflected in belief & then baptism an then communion & worship. There can be no greater life.

Three verses of Exodus, 14:19-21, are unique in the entire library of human literature; three verses describing how G†d literally protected the rear of the chosen people from the army of the Pharaoh until the sea was parted allowing for salvation; three verses defying probabilities mathematics act as a key to the ebb and flow of evil in the last 250 years before singularity; three consecutive verses containing 72 letters each when arranged as 72 triplets and reversed the 72 triplets are said to not only represent the names of G†d but His divine attributes forming the essential pattern of creation.

Ex 15v 21, Here miriam (the prophetess), rejoices and sings and dances with the timbrel"Sing ye to the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea." This is most likely the same sister of Moses and of Aaron who saw Moses put into the river nile by her mother and was rescued by the princess. Now she sees the judgement on pharaoh for casting israelite babies into the nile, they themselves are now thrown into the red sea and drown and God rescues Israel. A parallel of the redemption of Moses is the redemption of Israel from the waters. She sees the redemptive nature of God in rescuing Moses, then Israel. No wonder she rejoices.

The Passover night, when the blood of the lamb gave salvation to the children of Israel, it was a symbol, a shadow of Salvation, salvation through Jesus. The crossing of the Red Sea is a Foreshadow of Baptism, and the seal of the salvation from the bondage of Egypt. Egypt being symbolic of our carnal, worldly nature.

In order to understand why Miriam was referred to as Aaron's sister within a context; one must make a complete analysis. The bible refers distinguishly to Moses, Aaron, Moses and Aaron, Aaron and Moses. It is probable that there is an intention for every reference indeed. I do not think that any reference is a reflection of the biological relationship originally elaborated.
@politicz1973

Aaron passed through the two waters as did Miriam. He passed from fleeing bondage and passed through the waters of Jordan to new life. Moses did not cross the Jordan but still had a role in the people battling. In this he becomes the early archetype of David...blood was in his hands so he could not build the temple. Solomon his son would. Likewise when Emperor Julian and his pagan loving Jews that were successful in war wanted to rebuild the temple there was the great earthquake of 363AD and this prevented this and also we saw the downfall of his reign. As this is the story of male and female (generations) fleeing from to promise (faith life) this is also a leadership lesson (Moses) where it is not just how you start the race as grand as that may be but how you finish it. And yet is also paradoxical in that it is how you start the race (blood on your hands) as to where you will finish. The Pillars of Boaz and Jachin then are of Aaron and Miriam. You can therefore see where groups like the Quakers have arrived.

Miriam (introduced with her name) as a prophetess is confirmed after the passing through the red sea. The crossing of the sea and her prophesy is connected. She got the prophesy before Moses was born, hence only the mention of her being Aron sister. Miriam "stand and watch"(Exodus 2:4) when Moses is in the river. Moses has learned from Miriam to "stand and watch" (Exodus 14:13) at the red sea. Moses story is small story of the big Israel story. Miriams prophesy? Her not yet born brother will lead the Israelites out of Egypt. She didnt know how, but she stod and watched. Connection to the NT. Also some women "stod and watched" when Jesus died (Mark15:40, Matthew 27:55, Luke 23:44) The LORD will save us. We dont know how, but in faith we will stand and watch how the LORD will save us. Also Mary (the name is an variant of Miriam), Jesus mother, got a message that her not yet child will save the world (Jesus: The LORD saves)

He also performed the signs before the people, 31 and they believed. The bible here refers the presentation of miracles to Aaron, even though God told Moses to conduct these miracles.

@@fordprefect5304 which propaganda may yield indoctrination - by the presentation of a story that talks about slaves breaking free? The contrary. And this is perhaps why there is no overwhelming archeological evidence on the Egyptian side. Why would the great Egyptian empire tell the tail of their greatest failure? The exodus is not fictional. We know the Hebrews were enslaved in Egypt, and that they left some 3500 years ago, and that the Egyptian empire lost it's grasp on the majority of their territory - during that time. First and foremost the bible itself, which is a document that can be traced back, and is an elaboration of occurrences in actual time, according to interpretation, combined with metaphors. All of Levontine experienced and exodus of some form, this is true whether they stayed put or not. And they most likely did not stay put during that era.

These biblical discussions present one of the main problems with the reliability of the Bible. It demonstrates the Bible is worded so ambiguously that it can be interpreted in any number of different ways. That ambiguity does Not aid Understanding because a lot of it boils down to personal opinion. And if much of the Bible is based around upon opinion, just how reliable can it be?

Miriam (Prophet) Aaron Priest and Moses King cancelled out. God was their King. Later even Saul would need to be given a new heart to rule after the people chose him over God. Note the failure of all the leaders Kings Saul (strength) David (Strength/Heart) Solomon (Mind) and the Soul (post Elijah still small voice/Essenes). This still small voice in history would also see the coming of Buddah and Conscious. When Jesus curses the vine he does so to signal the new vine (a greater wisdom of the Kingdom of Heaven). The new wine...the second Adam the victory of Jesus as the King of Kings the prophet priest and king. He shows this in the desert in the unbreakable position of heart, mind, strength in the Father and the soul (Knowing of the terror/betrayl to come) completed in the garden of Gethsemane. A all consuming life of being positioned in the will of God. (Positioning-Journey-eternal victory) If we go on the journey without the positioning there is eternal failure.) We cannot mix this up. For most of us the positioning either takes most of our lives or it never happens as we push Gid away. The two sides to salvation. Being born again and the eyes were opened Luke 24...the rushing off to that which is of God (temple). Baptism is the promise of this life...more than a new heart like Saul was given but revelation as the sons of the Living God....what is said in the Gospel of John of being brought up into this Godhead the reversal of Genesis of "less they be like us." We are in Christ. This is why Christ could not be an earthly king because he is God. We were never meant to have an earthly King but love with His as our King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Note the reaction of the devil in the Catholic Archbishop of Brisbane saying "Jesus is not my King." He is stuck in thinking of earthly terms. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords in the Kingdom of Heaven and that is above and through all other causes.

What is very interesting about all this is that its nothing more than the repetition of men trying to intellectualize the Bible. If you go to 1 & 2 Corinthians, and you read through it, you’re find that the Church of Corinth constantly attempted to use philosophy, which is nothing more than pre-psychology, to intellectualize the Bible…and this was completely in error to do to the word of God. Nor do any of these people mention Christ Jesus, which is the foundation of the Bible. He is the word which they’re supposed to be reading, but they never mention him, this discussion is a complete joke from the sense of anybody who attempts to explain the Bible without Christ Jesus, who should always be the center of the discussion.

You realize this sequence of discussions is about the book of Exodus in the OLD TESTAMENT right? You realize Jesus Christ wasn't born yet and wouldn't be for another 1400 years until after Moses death? Lol. Also the Bible is the culmination of documents from the beginning of written history up till and through Jesus's life and shortly after. Literally half the bible happens before Jesus is even born how can you say nobody can attempt to explain books in the Old Testament without Jesus Christ when Jesus Christ wasn't even around during those times....

Jordan Peterson gives a philosophical and secular interpretation of Exodus but he will most likely never grasped the entirety of these scriptures until he is born again. The Bible states in Phillipians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” The power of the Holy Spirit guides and teaches the heart and then the mind can fully grasp the poetic meaning behind each verses. I realized the the understanding behind prayer, worship, scriptures is literally hidden from non believers of the Bible.

@@mholla678 Hello, Mholla678 First I want to congratulate you for your bravery for seeking help and understanding. The first question you should ask yourself is what am I believing in? In short the Bible is a book about God who is a King, Heaven which is his kingdom, and earth which is his first colony. Man is created in the image of God and are basically governors/ambassadors of God's Kingdom. The first people God created where Adam/Eve. These humans were eternal beings as long as they followed Gods law which is in the means of good/evil. Once Adam disobeyed God's law. They became mortal. "Hence why we die". Christians believe that death is a curse and punishment for mans disobedience. After we die we are judged by God and can only go to 'Heaven' or "Hell". Just like in America if you commit a crime, you have to stand before a judge and either pay a fine of go to jail. The same goes for humans who disobeys God's laws.However, God states the only way to write off/pay for a eternal debt/crime is a innocent sacrifice. Hence God killed an innocent lamb to cloth Adam/Eve and also stated they would have to continually do this act on their own as a atonement for their sinful acts...."until Jesus comes" As time and civilization progressed, God choses Abraham to basically establish the colony he always wanted on the earth. During this time you have the Egyptian empire and other empires who worship pagan Gods and follow there own rule set in the society/government. Evil/Devil rule on earth which a society God never intended for. Abraham decedents are the Jews/Israelites. A group of people who are not different from you and me but God chose to use his seed to come through the earth because Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son. As a couple of thousands of years pass, God himself/ Jesus enters the earth. His entire purpose was to walk the earth and teach humanity the ways and laws for how we should treat one another and the earth. He was killed at 33 and reported to resurrect from the dead 3 days later. "This is historical reported in Roman and other countries history books". The 12 disciples he trained spread the gospel which radicalized the world today. Catholicism, Protestant, Christianity, and many other denominations have came out of gospel og Jesus Christ. The big question your probably thing is.....HOW DO I KNOW THIS IS TRUE? Is this made up, a fairytale, a story/forklore. It's a serious and very understandable question to ask. My answer to that is it will takes "faith" Hebrews 11:1 states that "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen". The truth is God requires you to believe is something that surpasses your understanding/logic as a test. Its a test/measure of your heart. I personally am a Christian and alot of my faith and understanding of prayer have been by my upbringing in the church and through my mother. I also recommend going to a local church, watching youtube videos, and reading books, to better understand The Bible and who Jesus is because I left out so much especially about "The Holy Trinity" and understanding "Satan/Lucifer". What many non believers see in the bible for the supernatural acts and miracles as science fiction lies, are quite very real in my life. In all seriousness I have seen angels/demons. Have had dreams about the future and had visions. Jesus Christ is very real.

@@mholla678 In order to be born again you must believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ John 3:16 states “16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” If you wish to be born again, please repeat this prayer “Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Your Word says, "Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21). I am calling on You. I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord over my life according to Romans 10:9-10. "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." I do that now. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. If you have prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of God. If you’ve confessed this prayer, I believe you are born again and can receive the Holy Spirit. Prayer is an act of of calling out to God and seeking help, guidance for you or another person, situation. As a believer in Jesus Christ your prayers can be answered because your name is registered in heaven. Becoming born again and receiving the Holy Spirit is a act of once being spiritually dead and now becoming spiritually alive. The renewing of the mind and walking a life of Jesus takes a life of learning reading worship and praying to God until he reveals himself to you and you began to hear his voice, fill his presence, and preach the gospel yourself and lead other to salvation of Jesus Christ I recommend attending a Pentecostal, word of faith or non denominational Christian/Protestant Church to help guide your path with the word of God. Jesus loves you sister!

All of this is preposterous. It's a mythos, you were on the right track, and then you sought a savior: no one is coming. Who was the scribe in the court? Ezra. What did we find in the tablets of Ur? All these stories with different names. Was it not plagiarized? Of course. Was it not about finding truth and galvanizing a people? Who wouldn't want the best for their people? Can't we admit we don't know and are looking? Can't we be honest and find the truth? No one is coming, and I am my brother's keeper.
