Except human rights..... Good thing we can't support each other with nothing in return. I'm sure that was the christ message, be the legal slave of another with little to no rights, not to support the downtrodden so no one is forced into theft. Also I have been homeless and never had to steal so I feel bad that poverty corrupted your morals, you sound like you do need a magic man to tell you right and wrong.

The law about if the master gives a slave a wife he is to leave it behind indicates that the reason for this is that the wife and kids to come are the sole responsibility of the master and he is to be their primary carer and provider and that if the slave were to decide to leave that would indicate that he had no loyalty to his wife and children and therefore if he left he potentially would not be in a position where he could support his wife and children and hence place them at risk of homelessness and poverty and therefore would damage the family structure by not being able to care provide or support his family effectively and hence that’s why they were to remain in the masters house it wasn’t that they were his property as some think but rather God knows ultimately what is best for the wife and children and for their future

Trying to understand on a deeper level the meanings of Old Testament, will lead eventually to miss conception, because taking out the feelings, emotions, culture the way that they saw things on that time, the fact that they were on a daily basis surrounded by supernatural events , the way that the rituals have passed to generations and so much details that there is no way that can be understood now on our time is easy to think from “outside” , the reality definitely is way different, not to mention the translations during all this time, the way every person is telling from a different perspective, this makes even more hard to actually get it right , on those times they used simple words with more meanings, now we have a huge vocabulary and we like to split a phrase in 10k words (makings a lot of non sense) and “unfortunately “ the human nature when is trying to collect an insane amount of information and trying to figure out “the origin of the Seed” in the end will lead to madness and confusion… there are some things that simply are not meant to be understood and some things doesn’t really help us on our journey through life…we have a tendency to over complicate things, when all is good and we are not suffering… ”curiosity” - such a interesting trait in humans, the desire to know everything about everything Probably the “patience “ is what is missing to get what we wish so badly to discover Ecclesiastes 1-16/18 1 Corinthians 13:12

Is the body a slave to the Soul/I Am/Self/Atman? There's a paradigm shift in self image that is expressed in a short yogic type parable: One yogi asks an older yogi, "What is the difference between us?" The older yogi responds, "You still see yourself as a body with a Soul, and I am the Soul, with a body." ______ The same question from a Soul & Body point of view: It being subject to the laws of the Universe slavery to the Universe?

@@thetruthwillsetyoufree6088 Then why are upwards of 70% of divorces initiated by women? Also, and while this might be anecdotal: as a well educated and well employed dude, of ALL of the male coworkers/friends I have known who had kids and were divorced, none left their families. They were kicked out or she just left as it was the woman who ran off to have fun. In the one and only case that was sort of otherwise, the woman had bipolar and was abusive, and my (male) friend spent several 10s of thousands of dollars in court to keep custody in the divorce he was initiating, which was a lot of money for a early mid twenty something in the mid 2000s. It probably would have been wasted money as the courts almost always side with the mother regardless, but she was actually bad enough to lose. Although it still cost him a ton to fight it out. He thinks it was worth it though. I do know of cases where the guy ran out, but it was no friends of mine and it was entirely predictable, and a small minority of cases. For example there was a girl at my church when I was a teen in the 90s that my parents and hers obviously thought would be matched. She however (along with most of the girls there when I was that age), preferred gangsters footballers and drug dealers, and was friendly to me at church but rude beyond belief at school. She got pregnant by a totally worthless dude that her parents tried everything to keep her away from somewhere between 15 and 17 (don't remember precisely). Only a couple years later her dude was in prison for statutory, after one of the other girls he subsequently knocked up was under age. Meanwhile I went to college to get good grades in STEM, and the predictable consequences befallen the pretty girl that was consistently rude and two faced with me in order to sleep around with a scumbag behind her parents back wasn't something that was going to keep me up at night. Play stupid games, win stupid prises.

I think their confusion is stemming from the Greek word "Doulos" that is used in the early Bible, a word that can mean slavery or laborer/servant. One who is a "Doulos tou Theou" is a servant of God, but not property owned by God with no Will of one's own. One serves God by directing one's Will to be in accordance with the Good and Beautiful of God's Will. A Doulos owned by people is a slave without the freedom to exercise one's own Free Will.

There is a lot that can be added from the Jewish perspective. Dennis is so brilliant, but he doesn't have the years in Yeshiva and simply doesn't know enough to represent the Jewish faith. I have heard Jordan say that he reads posts. It is not likely, but please bring on Rabbi Akiva Tatz if you read this post. He will give an unparalleled understanding of verses like this.

What does it mean if he loves his wife and children but not his master , who is the slave his wife and children to God in contrast to the Master and his familiy ? How far does God love extend to his creation , is it limited ? Is it possible for a victim to love the one that victimizes him ? Did some the Isrealites love Egypt ?

The number of intellectual twists and turns people are willing to make to avoid simple truths is always sort of fascinating. Maybe after 2000 years of a text being written it has simply ceased to be relevant and applicable. Most of us live in countries where we can't be slaves, yet it indeed seems many choose to be slaves. By mutual agreement (covenant) weren't all of Israel servants of God? And God held them to it. But this was a means to an end, as God 's intention was indeed to rule over all the earth. THAT rule would not be a master/servant relationship as covenanted with Israel, but as friends (John 15:15). This friendship was described within a new covenant-that between a husband and wife (Eph. 5)-Moses' original relationship with God. (Moses clearly bonded with God before the law was spelled out-and weren't they at times like an "old married couple" with their negotiating?). Israel-at-large did not want that relationship. “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die,” they told Moses (Ex. 20:19). So the people, though originally invited to the tent of meeting, where "anyone" could inquire of the Lord, worshiped from their own tents. And only Moses and Joshua are named as entering.

People of religion are full of amusing stories ... especially when trying to be serious. Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase & Fable by Ivor H. Evans … First published 1817. Adoption controversy. Elipand, Archbishop of Toledo, and Felix Bishop of Urgel (in the 8th century), maintained that Christ in his human nature was the son of God by adoption only (Rom. viii, 29), though in his pre-existing state he was the “begotten Son of God” in the ordinary Catholic acceptation. The adoptionists were condemned by the Council of Frankfurt in 794.

I think that being considered a servant is a holy position, I also believe that God does not have slaves directly: instead he offers a path towards social betterment through teaching people to be graceful. Working for God means you willingly chose to work for him, although despite that, sometimes it might appear coercive in nature as working for God is the best way to save yourself from the devil, and people who are under attack from the devil often are the ones who take up burdens in good favor with God, but you should also recognize that God is not the one who orders such evil beings: they act on the devil's behalf, so it is not God coercing them exactly. Anyone who turns to God and receives his blessings is only bettered from serving God so long as they act gracefully. Edit: while many people who work towards the favor of God are running from the devil, they are not the only ones who would serve God*

No one is a slave to God, that's the entire reason this earth is sinful, because we have the choice to follow or not to follow God. Obviously Adam and Eve chose not to, so here we are in this increasingly wicked world. People claim the Bible is just a non-divine attempt at explaining why evil exists, but we continue to see the world growing constantly more evil the less we obey God (or the Bible, if you want to just look at it secularly).
