In 1986 my cousin and I went to the Trade Center and bought some albums with one being Bonded By Blood.I never like the metal he played like Maiden or Priest so I look at the songs and was thinking thee are sick titles and I saw one that was labeled "Piranha/No Love" I was thinking what the fuck is Piranha no love so I put it on and that was the first song of thrash metal I heard and the drums intro with the tone of the guitar and the alternate picking with the galloping and Baloffs vocals fucked me running and I became a flat out junkie and I couldn't get enought thrash and I became addicted to death metal and the the Swedish wave of death metal and it was all due to this riff GOD!Tom Hunting and Holt are the most dominate duo ever.You cant spell Gary Holt with G O A T. Gary is the man. King and Lombardo knew Hanneman was not coming back. During a European festival the two cruised the festival looking for replacements. Jeff had always said Gary is his replacement so as they got closer to the stage Exodus was playing at they knew Jeff was right it was a no brainer. Guitar players just down pick constantly. I play drums and finding a down picker is hard.

Gary Holt is the true master riffer, besides James Hetfield , -2 greats on the 6 strings that don t go unnoticed but never get the deserved respect they both deserve, Gary 's riffs are phenomenal just like James !! Old school metal with just plugging in and getting a sound that is great and the rest is in your hands but this new tech products are way too pricey and all this tech jibberish is way beyond my point, its not my stuff but too each his own !

What did the guy in the audience at 15:50 say? I can't hardly hear him but it sounds like he made one huge positive compliment towards or about Gary Holt. Anyone know what he said!?
@patrickvaina97596 жыл бұрын
That was me! I originally asked Gary if he had any positive advice about life and then complimented on Gary being a huge inspiration towards my guitar playing as a hearing-impaired guitar player. Been playing since I was 13 and never let my disability stop me from chugging out some br00tal riffs and he admired that compliment and the whole crowd gave a great round of applause. One of the most down to earth musicians I've ever met!
@RadeonPro16 жыл бұрын
I totally forgot to respond to your comment, my apologies! That is awesome to hear though! I play electric guitar myself and i'm still trying to figure out my own material and riffs that i am trying to come up with. It's not easy by any means since i know and want a really good riff myself. In your opinion though, what would be a good starting point to making your own riff? I try and get inspiration from other bands but then nothing amazing ever happens. Got any suggestions!? I would gladly appreciate any advice!
@patrickvaina97596 жыл бұрын
Sure do brother! I'll post some riffage to my page soon. Just picked up an ESP LTD Vulture (Hetfield Sig Model) and it's absolutely gnarly!
@patrickvaina97596 жыл бұрын
RadeonPro1 - No problemo man. Life gets us busy - honestly, the best thing that improved my playing ten fold was to jam with a drummer. It helps you find the groove and I stick to the KISS method. (Keep It Simple Stupid). The best rock/metal bands made some of their most popular songs with simple riffs. Look how powerful the song Black Sabbath is and the majority of the song is like, 3 notes. Also, if you come down with something sick, write it down because the chances are you're going to forget it in a few days.
@RadeonPro16 жыл бұрын
Absolutely man! I got a full time job going on now so it's hard to fit the time in to jam, usually i practice on the weekends if im not busy doing other stuff. I totally hear ya, some of the most amazing songs are simple and are easy to learn. For me personally, just playing some Black Sabbath riffs here and there reminds me to keep it simple when i come up with something new. I usually will come up with something new and record it on my phone right away so i can hear what i was playing but i definitely need to start writing the riffs out also. Keep up the good work doing whatever you are doing! Cheers!

David Huizhao Qu The Kemper is just a lot easier for most touring musicians these days, it’s a lot cheaper and you won’t have to worry about your head getting damaged. Although I’m sure he just uses the kemper because he prefers his modded Marshall’s over a DSL-100 and he’s said in other interviews his 1987 modded Marshall’s don’t leave his house.

After Prince died I kept hearing how amazing a musician he was. I know that he was a talented guitarist but I've always considered him to be overrated and pretentious. I went back and listened to some of his stuff to see if I was missing something or if it appealed to me more now that I'm older but I didn't like it any more than I did in the eighties.
