I lived and did my studies in Senegal and I can attest to the high cost of living in this country. It is a peaceful and loving country but very expensive with a high unemployment rate.

1.. the force to migrate has come from social media. People are seeing that there are better ways to live. This existed earlier too but peoole can clearly see it on social media now. 2.. the number who perish at sea. I wonder what the ratio to those who suceed is? May not be greater than traffic accident probability. Relying on the sea and leaky boats as your entry barrier wont work for EU. 3.. EU is so weak that they dont gave energy to deport the refused asylum seekers. Everyone knows that so the worst case is you are an illegal but in Europe. Hardly a disincentive. 4.. EU has to step up to stop boats at origin using Force. Then they have to promptly deport 99%. The cases of persuction are well known. Rest are economic migrants.

I live in South Africa, I believe I am as poor as these guys. I earn less than 12 euro per week but I am able to afford internet, buy a tv, get a pc and a laptop, play Ocarina of Time and get normal clothes. I also am studying Maths and Stats at UNISA. Things are improving, but it does take time. But they need to diversify more instead of all having the same kind of jobs. That's how real progress will be made.

A big part I think will be the time frame. Highways take at best 5-10 years for a state in America (pretty big place), but america has a system. But I believe in 21st century we will come together and Africa as well will control the prices of their resources.

For those commenting why Muslim migrants and refugees don't move to other Muslim countries. They do. 4 million palestinians are in jordan, millions of Palestinians and Syrians in lebanon, many Libyans in Egypt, Arabs escaping war to Kuwait, Saudi, Qatar.... lots of Iraqis escaping war settle and live in Syria (Yes, Syria!), Millions of Syrians settle in Turkey without moving on to Europe. Indians, Bangladeshis, and Pakistanis basically built the Gulf States and make up a big, big percentage of the settled population. Because it is much easier for a shared culture to integrate to another shared culture, these minorities are not as visible in the Middle East as they are in Europe. People who do not speak the languages or know about Middle Eastern culture cannot identify a Syrian living in Turkey, or a Palestinian living in Lebanon. But they are there, and they far, far, far outnumber the people who migrate to Europe.
