I bought my condo in PV, up the hill behind the church in Centro for 60k USD, furnished. My neighbor, who had a unit exactly like mine just sold his for 238k USD. My cost of living in Mexico has gone up but it is still around 40% of the cost of living in the US. I have good internet for 18.00 USD a month since I do not have cable on the bill. Imported food is expensive but the local food is much cheaper and much fresher. I have a king-size bed and I buy my sheets from Costco which is 20 minutes from my house. The cost is the same as in the US. I keep hearing people tell me about how dangerous Mexico is but truthfully, that is just not really accurate. If you are not involved in the drug trade or hanging out with people who are, you are not going to have any more danger in your life here than you would experience living in the USA. One thing you do not see in Mexico is "lone gunmen" going out and randomly shooting up schools, churches, movie theaters, shopping malls, or the like.
@teresaramos17192 жыл бұрын
Have to disagree. Tulum is becoming a dangerous place...tourists and natives alike may find themselves in a shoot out ..2 people shot ..first of year. A guy got held up by a cop in Cancun in front of his resort at 4am on his way to airport lost his $$$ jewelry, cologne, wallet cell phone...swears off of Mexico and will dissuade all friends and anyone who will listen ..just recently a month ago this happened..soooo. no thank you .Mexico is as dangerous 😳 if not more than US
@johnpetry53212 жыл бұрын
@@teresaramos1719 news reports of the Tulum shootout indicate that the men killed in the restaurant were involved in the drug trade and were killed by a gun man from a rival cartel. Hence my comment was accurate. As for your claims about your friend bring robbed on the street at 4am that is unfortunate. Nothing like that ever happens in the United States ever. If one looks at the numbers of tourists traveling to Mexico yearly which number in the millions and then at the numbers of tourists injured and killed, the numbers show that deaths are low and typically involve alcohol mixed with motor vehicles. Mexico has its problems. I am the first to admit that. But dying in a drug cartel shooting is not something typically experienced by people not involved in the drug trade. And, unlike the US, random, lone gunmen shooting up schools, shopping centers, etc. are not found in Mexico but are in the states where apparently any drunken, mentally disturbed man angry at the world can buy an AR-15 and go on a rampage. There have been over 250 such incidents in the USA so far in 2022. I feel much safer in Mexico.
@maximusextreme37252 жыл бұрын
@@johnpetry5321 First of all I am not sure how you know that there have been that many shootings next year, but maybe your crystal ball is deadly accurate. The term "mass shootings" is also defined as 3 or more people shot in the US, not necessarily dying and that includes domestic violence and gangs etc. It's still a lot but it's pretty high in Mexico as well. Over 33,000 murders in the country in 2021. And just like in the US, it is possible for you to get shot by a cartel member because you got caught in the crossfire, or you're mistaken for someone else.

Hi JC, one of your videos came up as a suggested video and just fell in love with your channel. I was actually born in Zacatecas, Mexico, but moved to the US when I was 10 years old, and although, now at almost 54 years old, I am well assimilated to the American culture and am an American citizen and love the USA for the opportunities it has given me, the older I get, the more Mexican I feel in my heart, so I love that you are able to teach or show other Americans about the beauty of Mexico and its people and to not believe all the bad media. I also love your philosophical comments about life in general and can't wait to get through all your videos and and keep up with the new ones, and who knows, maybe when I retire, I may end up back in Mexico 🙂

My son, his wife and I are looking into buying a vacation home in Mexico although we're not sure if it would be better to buy or just rent when we happen to be down there. I'm retired and they both work remotely. They might want to retire there so long as we can get high quality secure WiFi and a house with a small guest house for me. A guest room in the main house would be okay if we are otherwise happy with the property. We need a big enough yard for pets. My son has two large dogs. While beach areas are nice we will probably look inland at a slightly higher altitude.

I'm sure my son's wife Maria will be able to help us choose the most suitable area although I'm fairly certain where I want to be. The only thing is I don't know if we can get secure reliable wifi for their work and might have to choose a different community. Once we decide exactly where I think we should buy rather than wasting money on rent.

It was a business that depended on tourism and between many wild fires and than Covid I am not sure my business would have survived. We then sold our home and six months later yet another fire burned it to the ground. Mexico now feels very much like home and we LOVE it here. I've been in Mexico for 11 years, and I refer to that time as pre-Amazon and post. Amazon Prime has been a game changer. The other big difference between now and 2008 are the car hire services, InDriver, Didi and Uber. Gone are the days of having to live near a bus route or taxi stand. His observation about the exchange rate is right. For a period of years, my rent essentially went down month after month as the rate climbed from 11 to 1 up to 20+ to 1. The peso amount stated the same, but my rent was effectively halved. Other than that, yes, everything is more expensive (everywhere) than it used to be, thanks to inflation. And PV is becoming overdeveloped in the Emiliano Zapata colonia, with buildings out of scale for their surroundings, and hand in hand with that is more traffic, longer commutes. Finally, the other big difference about PV in 2022 vs 2011 is that the average age has declined markedly as younger people move here to work and raise their children. Although I have to say I'm really glad I got my permanent residency under the former rules!

I totally agree with you about typing speed and keyboards. Years ago, I tested at 115 wpm on the old electric IBM typewriters. Now, the keyboards are not the correct slant from top to bottom and they are missing some of the old home keys or these keys' "feel" is different. My speed has been cut in half and my mistake rate has soared. So now I used Dragon voice recognition software and my speed is back and I don't get as physically tired. I live in Costa Rica (since Nov. 1997) and almost any water you can get out of a tap anywhere in the country is potable, so I don't envy Mexico's water situation. We don't need tinacos, it comes from a tube next to the road by your house. I'm wondering why people tolerate it. People here would just about revolt, I think. There are bunches of countries in Latin America with potable water that are at least as old as Mexico.

That naked bicycle picture said it all. I lived a year in Mexico City in 1968 and during that time I was able to visit some other areas of Mexico too. I distinctly remember that women were required to wear a head covering into Catholic churches! I once wore a knee length culotte skirt downtown and got grabbed by men. As an attractive young blond I couldn't go anywhere alone without being harassed by men (It was really pretty scary at times). Has that gotten a lot better? If woman can ride bikes naked things must be really different. It sounds like you have a nice life in Mexico. I'm happy for you.

I live cheaper in Nashville, TN. I want to leave, but cannot see paying more than I do in the US. I live very comfortable in the US. I’ll be stepping down several levels to move to any other Country. I’m lucky as I own my home and have private insurance through Ford Motor company. I’m 65 and retired and live better in the US. I went on the Panama relocation tour last year. I traveled all of the major cities. It cost more to live in Panama. I have sewage and clean water in the US. If I had to rent as a young person, I would definitely leave. Suppose I’m more blessed than I realized.

Being from Mexico City, I went about 13 years ago with a Scottish friend to Guadalajara, my friend of course wore shorts so I did so also, but frankly I didn't feel comfortable, I felt out of place. Before nobody wore shorts in Mexico City except children and tourists. Now you do see people using shorts mainly on weekends.

Its always nice to exchange views when being an expat. Started in 1967 in Mexico, took a year then on to points south ultimately in Costa Rica. Fine times! But live in the USA now and prefer it even tho here or anywhere, things or life is seemingly in retrograde. Governments, no matter where tax us all, busisnesses just try to keep up.

The truth is there are metrics on cities, ratings for crime. Mexico has more cities in the worst 25 than any other country. Beyond the corruption of low and high level justice workers, Mexico has dropped in Democracy rankings and least safe for news reporters. When you lose these parts of the rule of law in society, the future is precarious.

Here's our view of the last 9 months in Mexico. We're healthier, happier and feel as safe here as in Canada. We eat better, walk more, there's more cash in our pocket. Yes we must always be careful, we keep our eyes open, watch where we go and don't drive at night, we stick to toll hwys while travelling this beautiful country and look past the things we do see and won't want to remember like road accidents which there are many, especially on the Baja. We keep our visa's on us all times. Never give our real ID police or pay them fines road side. Lake Chapala is home because of this wonderful expat community, weather is perfect too.

I'm looking forward to the water testing video. I used a "reverse osmosis" filter in Goleta CA because the water was so hard it was undrinkable; it required a monthly rental fee. It took me a while to figure out a shampoo that would lather in that water (Prell); on the whole, you felt like you came out of the salty ocean *after* you showered.
@SirenaSpades2 жыл бұрын
I had to comment that I use Prell and love it. I'd use it regardless :) I had knee length hair until two weeks ago - now it's waist length. Great shampoo.
