WORRIED ABOUT THE MARKETS? SCHEDULE YOUR FREE PORTFOLIO REVIEW with Wealthion's endorsed financial advisors at www.wealthion.com
When the road ahead is uncertain, there's no wiser choice than to listen to those with experience - who have seen enough market cycles to judge what's most likely to happen next.
Today we're fortunate to welcome financial advisor Ted Oakley, managing partner & founder of Oxbow Advisors.
Ted has over 40 years experience helping clients, mostly high net worth families, protect and build wealth through good times and bad.
Here at the start of 2023, we'll ask him if the bear market is over, or if it's simply sharpening its claws, waiting to strike again. And we'll find out how he's currently positioning his clients assets for the coming year.
________________________________
At Wealthion, we show you how to protect and build your wealth by learning from the world’s top experts on finance and money. Each week we add new videos that provide you with access to the foremost specialists in investing, economics, the stock market, real estate and personal finance.
We offer exceptional interviews and explainer videos that dive deep into the trends driving today's markets, the economy, and your own net worth. We give you strategies for financial security, practical answers to questions like “how to grow my investments?”, and effective solutions for wealth building tailored to 'regular' investors just like you.
There’s no doubt that it's a very challenging time right now for the average investor. Above and beyond the recent economic impacts of COVID, the new era of record low interest rates, runaway US debt and US deficits, and trillions of dollars in monetary and fiscal stimulus stimulus has changed the rules of investing by dangerously distorting the Dow index, the S&P 500, and nearly all other asset prices. Can prices keep rising, or is there a painful reckoning ahead?
Let us help you prepare your portfolio just in case the future brings one or more of the following: inflation, deflation, a bull market, a bear market, a market correction, a stock market crash, a real estate bubble, a real estate crash, an economic boom, a recession, a depression, or another global financial crisis.
Put the wisdom from the money & markets experts we feature on Wealthion into action by scheduling a free consultation with Wealthion’s endorsed financial advisors, who will work with you to determine the right next steps for you to take in building your wealth.

I will say this: I have been preaching disaster for more than a decade, and missed out on a lot of gains because of my opinions, but WHO KNEW the Fed would be so irresponsible for so long. I was an economics major in college, and not a particularly good student, but I have enough sense to know that if you keep interest rates low enough and long enough you will cause major distortions, and I could always come to Wealthion for reaffirming my predictions. The Federal Reserve has exhibited Vietnam level incompetence, and we will pay the price.

Same here, I was short big time coming up on 2008 and never ever imagined that the system would get bailed out and that the FED would come up with a bunch of alphabet soup programs made up out of thin air and would experiment with the entire US financial system. It's like, I was right, but they changed the rules of the game after it started and then I lost.

@@michaeloconnor6683 It's good to know I am not alone, but I remember Stanley Druckenmiller warning about this as far back at 2015. The Fed should have started raising rates in 2013: It was not an election year, and the economy could have sustained a slow down. And now Janet Yellen, of all people, is arguing for an increase in the debt limit. Yes, it should be increased, but she is one of the main culprits in the growth of all this debt! Of course she will not pay, but head off to some cushy job in academia or Wall Street. It will be the most vulnerable who will pay.

Disagree with his (and Fed Powell) Inflation source, it's politically biased. Use Bloomberg commodity index, BCOM, United States commodities weighted by their actual use and industry down to consumer. Inflation is closer to 11%. The fed needs to raise interest rates to 13% currently so that it will balance with all commodities.

Unfortunately, they don't get good advice..." Well, no. Of course not. What Financial Advisor is going to recommend their client pull all money out of the market in advance of a pretty much assured crash coming? They'll hope it doesn't materialize. 'Cause if the client pulls all money out, they're paying a management fee to sit on cash. And that means they'll fire their advisor. I fired mine: why keep throwing money down the toilet to pay for "investment management" to sit on cash? Beside which, the idiot didn't see the peak coming; didn't see the crash coming; doesn't see a further crash coming. Either he's blind, dumb or - more likely - he's advising for HIS benefit, not mine. Your Economics prof insisted there's such a thing as an efficient market. Bu!!sh!t!!! All markets are inefficient. With perhaps one glaring exception: Wall Street is pretty damn efficient. At fleecing investors. THAT'S an efficient market, I'll admit. But I'll wager it's the only efficient market in existence.

We are social beings, we don't need money, we need time to be together, and spend time to create a life not doing for money but freedom to love, which is what primal humans are about, our lives and wellbeing is in decline as we put money before families, raising children, social activities in bringing people together in fun and loving ways.

I would agree that active management may be crucial in the next decade. The problem is that most managers have no idea how to invest in this environment. I can see the evidence of this in how poorly most asset managers performed in 2022. Not a clue. They are stuck in the easy money past and their whole investment premise relies on when the FED will pivot. I would love to see an episode (or series) concerning just how much things have changed and how the market will likely perform moving forward. The challenge would be in finding experts like Ted Oakley who have actually been around long enough that they remember when fundamentals mattered and know something about economics.

so true about that psychology...esp amongst "older" investors. I actually had an older neighbor back in 2009 after moving in to this nice neighborhood who confessed to me how she sold at the low after a 70% loss in her portfolio...her reasoning: did not want to lose it all....the debt bomb within the BBB IG market is the canary that can blow up and lead to the mythical "pivot"...$12 trillion simultaneously downgraded in lockstep, causing many bond ETF's to sell and discard the former BBB rated ($6-7 trillion equiv) which has now become junk bonds....like a good bank run on the bank, a panic run on all the ETF's causing the NAV to drop below the underlying assets by 10% or more due to lack of liquidity....

Why worry about a interest rates or a pivot or schimvit or bear market. The kids in congress have just been notified that the United States cannot pay it's bills unless they agree to raise the national debt. Again, yes I know again. Meaning that a default at this time would send us into a sever depression, not a recession. Should we worry about that? On we go.

Lol, I agree! But I wouldn’t be surprised if housing drops far more drastically than anyone is predicting. IMHO, the only way it possibly wont is because it has been artificially inflated by RE investment holding companies like Blackrock.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP interpret something Ted said? It was at about 37.5 minutes, or as my video says- a negative 29:27 on the countdown clock- Ted says this- Why don’t you think about keeping that treasury look… …you can do something from a 470 on the shortest end to 5 years out…and all of a sudden you’re creating a really great cash flow with very little risk. I think this is probably a gem, and I don’t understand what he’s saying….
@arescuda7234
@arescuda7234 Жыл бұрын
Alot of investors are passive and hold a quality stock that doesn't have much growth but consistently pays a dividend of 3-5%. But the stock price can always go lower so there's risk. Right now with U.S. Treasury bills they are also paying that rate both in short term and long term and you're original principle is not at risk. So you're getting safety and 4.5% growth against risk of your stock losing money or your dividend being cut.

Thank You Adam! Ted, an honorable person, being open is so refreshing! Most in the media are spinning or even "playing" others .. perhaps that explains why there hasnt been a greater "flight of capital" out of the markets. Perhaps incorrectly: I remain heavily in cash-like positions, and will continue to do so until Bond market gives me a leading signal, then I'll likely move to Small Caps & dividend payers. edit: still watching and the second half offers so much information too, as well as market psychology (weak brain function of, i assume, mostly Boomers and those with even weaker minds than Boomers.) Really hoping part 2 is as content filled.
