I can't believe this landed on my timeline but I'm glad it did. My grandad was a shoe repairer, had his own shop in Birmingham, he sadly passed away some time ago now but i still remember a few of these processes from when he had his machinery in his workshop at home and as a hobby repaired friends and family shoes.

Lol that's with the most stuff, even good products are as best as the finance appartment would let it be and could be mostly easlily upgraded for small money. But then there would be depreciation, if it is a collectors item and not fully original. - but on the other hand, if you use something for its purpose it will mostly automatically depreciate, so it doesnt matter.
@lynn69jackson Жыл бұрын
If you use someone like Dan, who is a cobbler and not just someone trained to put soles and heels on, you get a quality job. It's a case of getting what you pay for, especially when the shoes that are being repaired are expensive to start with. I'm sure that if he ever started making bespoke mens shoes , they would be better quality than most of the named luxury brands.
@SuperheroJunior Жыл бұрын
@@Dan_the_cobbler Those shoes are beautiful.
@lachyt52475 ай бұрын
@@lynn69jackson Making a bespoke shoe is 90% about last design, and proportions, most of his work we see is structural and reconditioning. He's very good at it but you're comparing two completely different professions. This comment section is also comparing manufacture at scale with small scale one off. Of course you get better quality with a one off shoe, you can go out and choose the absolute best calf and materials, and its very easy to make it almost perfect because its your only focus. Getting those same materials and quality control when you're making hundreds of shoes per week is an entirely different matter. That is why people rave about makers like Edward Green, because they make a consistent, excellent product at scale.

My father was a shoe maker. Watching this, remindes me of working in his shop. His supplier was Persy adlere. Back in 1990 he'd charge about £10. He'd also channel the groove by hand for the blake stiching then fold the the material back over. He also would have painted the sole and polished it on the finisher. I wish i had taken the time to learn his trade, but alas i was more interested in fixing cars. I remember the smell in the shop, watching this brings back all those memories from when he was alive.

Nice work! The tapering of the soles’ edges was a lovely touch and showed great attention to detail. Flat, square-edged soles are actually a dead giveaway for Louboutin knock-offs, and can make an otherwise excellent resoling look cheap. Your rebuild was top notch. That shoe owner should consider getting Topy sole protectors put on any new shoes. Normally I wouldn’t put them on ‘good’ shoes, but that’s some long-term, determined trashing of footwear, so extreme measures may be necessary. 😂 The red synthetic you put on will serve the same purpose in this case.
