You're at a mine with some little flowers peaking out of crags in the stone, and a calm stream of wind carries the smell of a nearby plum or apricot tree in the distance. You sit in reverie for a time, until you hear a sound in a nearby bush. To your horror as you approach, the realization slowly comes to you that the sound is of a wild man in the bush, heaving and wheezing, going about some... business. The day is ruined and the beauty of the mine is wiped from your mind. But as you sprint away as fast as you can, you feel a slight heady rush of endorphins as adrenaline, and at last collapse at home.

I have a 2007 Lao Ban Zhang from Camelia Sinensis (An Honest Canadian Boutique) that was around $45 for 50g. To this day, it's the best Puer experience I've ever had. It just goes to show, price is not an indicator of quality. A great example of this to me is Kickback Champ, and Nut Charmer. Two of my all time favorite cakes, yet economically priced. Simple dreams is another one. One of the best White Tea cakes in circulation that I've seen, yet it is very fairly priced.

We laughed so much about you two going on about the unmentionable tasting note. 🤣I really hope, that tea didn't make you sick. Reminded me of the shu Celine had to drink during one of the Mei Leaf Lives. -- "No" to steak-and-kidney pie as a tasting note in tea, even though I like it on its own, as a proper pie. -- I wonder ... did bats perhaps get into the place, where that cake was aged?

It is nearly impossible to find an electric kettle for gong fu brewing that has temperature accuracy, good pour control, comfortable to hold, and most importantly water or steam that does not come in contact with plastic, silicon, or any other material that can leech to affect the taste and your health. Noticed your kettle. Is that a Brewista Artisan Electric Gooseneck Kettle, 1 Liter? Can you do a review of that kettle?

I just recently expanded my tea pot collection to include all the main clay varieties (just waiting for the wu x ml lantern, which is stuck in customs and its complete 🙂 ). But since most of my tea pots are pretty new and I don't have much experience with them: May I ask why you did choose nixing over zini or jianshui? My nixing was my first tea pot (ignoring my tokoname, because I started with japanese teas), but I kind of tend to use it with black teas only. And maybe here and there an oolong.

Bcs why not?They’re effects are pretty minimal, and also it’s a new pot and it looks cool

@@SDArgo_FoC That's why I ask though. I kinda want to get a grip on what gets into consideration when picking the type of clay.

I would have a big problem tasting teas like this because i have a trust issue - how do you know that they didn't do some weird stuff with this tea? Are these teas in any way tested for pesticides or other contaminants to assure that you are not being exposed to toxic substances?
@TheAminoamigo Жыл бұрын
The point of rinsing tea is actually to remove any impurities like pesticides etc. from the tea leaves. Alternatively, you could go for Mei Leaf's organic teas which don't use pesticides but even these are still usually rinsed prior to drinking.
@Laura-je2uw Жыл бұрын
@@TheAminoamigo yes,i do rinse my teas. I was just wondering about all the teas they have to taste test and that are send to them. I think with all items that have large potential profit margins there is a big temptation to use cheap and dangerous substances to increase their (producers, middle men) profit (olive oil and honey as examples). Especially with teas that are expected to have "funky" tastes - how can don and celine be sure that they are drinking a "clean and safe" tea when they are not drinking it directly at the tea plantations/tea producers. I mean, a tea having a diesel/metallic/urine taste can potentially contain these contaminants.
@TheAminoamigo Жыл бұрын
@@Laura-je2uw the tea industry is indeed full of fake teas and tampered ones, and producers and sellers who either lie or are to lied to about these teas. I also thought that the tea they tried might actually be contaminated with semen and diesel given the tasting notes. I've heard of very low quality pu-erhs which can cause stomach pains when drunk so that's one clue that the tea isn't safe. From Don's side, I know that he relies on a network of scouts in China to find teas worth trying so I imagine the scouts must be in personal contact with producers and their teas. Pre-covid, Don also went on yearly trips to China to try teas at the producers' site and see how they produce it. Aside from that, I guess they just have to trust that the cleanliness of the tea is reflected in the taste.
@Laura-je2uw Жыл бұрын
@@TheAminoamigo thank you for your reflections. Indeed a good network that you trust and maintain good relationships with is the most important thing. It really shows how much work actually goes into curating teas.
