I love gadgets and I don't mind spending the money on them, so I jumped on the Black Friday Sale and ordered the Woojer haptic feedback vest and strap. I rarely send stuff back, but even thought the quality was exceptionally high, the experience was underwhelming.

Has anyone mentioned that you can change from the 'Broad' mode to 'Focus' mode? It makes a huge difference apparently.
@nwskier
@nwskier 2 жыл бұрын
He mentions it in the review... Depending on the source I'll switch back and forth, I can't give a broad statement. For some source audio focus is better, for some broad is... and it depends on my mood too. Overall, it is easy to switch between and the change is immediately apparent. Before the SW update, I would be on the fence about recommending the vest, now it is much easier; it really brings that much more to the table. People comment on Subpac a lot, I consider their products true haptic feedback, but of course, that takes developer support in the games. They are unparalleled in that regard. However, if you want to use it with music and movies I'd give Woojer the edge, (hah) slightly...

Billy Eilishs Brother wears a similar kind of vest on stage. I’m sure it’s kind of cool to feel some bass rumble on a quiet in-ear stage. It’s called Subpac.

As I have bought the vest3, I can say exactly the same things as you mentioned, still have to find a way when watching a movie through my hifi system in the living room to have the sound come through the system and only have the haptics from the vest, is is a Denon with a lot of configration possible. I think buying a bluetooth transmitter could make it a lot more useable, but cheap ones introduce even more lag, which would make it feel even better. The best results I got when playing Cyberpunk through my Audiointerface (for sound) and using the headphone jack for the vest and turning the music off in the game, engine rumble works nicely. Also listening to Drum and Bass massages you to sleep :D

Anyone remember the Thunderseat for gamers? About the same principle here, Thunderseat is a kind of subwoofer. Makes sense, feeling bass vibrations like what happens to your chest at a concert. Literally adding sense makes sense. Thank you for being the honest Guinea pig for this, Henning!

We just got one for our high functioning autistic kids. Great stimulation for them. They love it and it's easy for them to wear under a hoodie and they can listen to their music or whatever with their phones or tablets. I will say I am deaf and use vibrations to hear most things and this makes playing gta a lot more immersive for me.

I use something similar for racing sim games. Together with a force feedback wheel it’s really immersive. Does it give me any information the wheel doesn’t provide anyway? Nah, not really, but it makes hitting curbs or driving off road so much more annoying, which is pretty accurate from what I experienced by gooning around in my real car.

Bass guitar in standard has lowest note E1 which is around 40Hz (if you tune standard). Guitar in standard has lowest note E2, which is around 80Hz. So the crossover frequency lies just above your G string on a guitar.. Maybe instead of capturing all the low end and reacting to that they should do some equalization, set some parametric bands and react to that? Bose do lots of EQ in their headphones and speakers to make certain frequency bands clearer, maybe they should do something like this. When it comes to connections, it would be better if they supplied something that takes analog audio/optical/hdmi, passes it through and then splits the signal to the vest.

My looking like a dork has little to do with what I’m wearing it’s more a general state of being for me. Tactile transducers let you feel the music like a massive wall of speakers. Or just fun for gaming. So maybe just put some bass shakers in the couch and set up a sub a bit louder than balanced ?

He is right about everything...i got one and it is going back...i do not hate it, but it does not feel connected. It is like being tickled with 6 vibrators.. A bass system on a festival feels different. Any music goes. I played Horizon Zero Dawn 2 with it and that is impressive...but who sits with a strap on in the couch for 4 hours ? Standing up it loses 50% of the effect. Oh, and we tried GT7 with it too...it does not even pick up the car sounds. What would make it better is a dedicated surround decoder where it would only react to channel 4. Low Frequency Effects (LFE) - Subwoofer Going for the whole sub 200 hz range is too busy. The craftsmanship , materials and manufacturing are top notch though..

Why spend in a strap or vest if you have at home a sound system that costs 3 times of those products? I wouldn't spend on that either if I have a cinema in home. It's like spend money in a oculus having an IMAX system in my basement for movies. This is intended for other group of people.

@@OliverAmberg but the way I understand it, it’s not meant to replace the “real life experience”, but to make an already “artificial” experience (like playing through a modeler or plugins into quiet studio monitors or headphones, in an apartment) feel closer to a real one when the real one is not an option. Whether it succeeds or not, is a different matter. But if it did succeed, it could help plenty of musicians feel more intimately connected to the music they play, in many everyday situations 😄

For bassists, the Backbeat does the same, but according to reviews, much better, because it does not lag and accurately reproduces the sound. So I do think that Woojer messed up. It could be great, and it is the fault of the company that they basically used a too floppy driver.

It's clearly too imprecise for either application. We have been working for years to create immersion but it's all still very crude because its not just about the hardware it's about adapting it to the person & we don't even know about what tools they are using to create the feedback. Because it's body worn you can't just use the kickers you might use in a handset. Besides our skin is sensitive to so many different stressors. I hate to say it but this may one of the problems that we can only solve through a direct to brain interface such as neuralink that bypasses signals from the body.

This was purchased for me as a gift, but is far to expensive for a gimmick product. They tell you that it will take an undisclosed amount of time to get you the product, so my mother wanting to gift it to me for my birthday purchased it ahead of time to make sure it would arrive. Now this overpriced gimmick of a product is still sealed, unused, and because we are outside of their 30 day window they will not consider any returns, and keep forwarding me advice on how to get this product that I explained I have zero in working on my computer. I asked to have this considered by a higher manager, as their return policy is run by a 3rd party online return website/app, and they declined that request and once again sent me advice on how to "set it up" on my computer. I am not opening it, I do not want it, your product is honesty...stupid...and I tried to be professional and ask for due consideration and was met with a literal joke of a customer service experience. Oh and left with a stupid vest in a sealed box.
