im gonna say maybe 36 yrs ago, i worked for pinal county...at that time, the park had an annual, "i hiked the peak" day each april...people from all over would gather for a trek to the saddle...those who made it were treated to a picnic lunch with breathtaking views, a tshirt that said, "i hiked the peak", and a certificate...only a handful of us finished making it to the top...there were no cables and we depended on the buddy system to climb...took most of the day to get up there and back...i remember the pride i felt since only 2 females were able to claim the prizes
