Rich Roll has been on my show twice before, and it was a pleasure having him back. He battled with an alcohol addiction that ruined his life from the age of 17 to the age of 31, where he went to a treatment center. Most people only spend 28 days there. He ended up spending over 100. When he got out, he changed his life. He pursued a career most people would consider ideal, and made a great living. The problem was, it wasn’t the life he wanted and it took a toll on him physically. After having a brush with death in his late 30s, he began living his life for him. Since then, he’s become a successful athlete, motivational speaker, podcast host, and all around incredible human being.

This is a great interview! I'm forever indebted to Rich Roll! It's unbelievable how much my life has changed because of this man! I'm nearly 60 years old and I'm an organic farmer. I used to eat meat at every meal but my body was falling apart. I had high blood pressure and was pre-diabetic. I'll make a long-story short--I switched to a plant-based diet and I can't believe the difference! I'm to the point that I only eat what I grow. My energy level is through the roof. There is no more hypertension or diabetes! I hope to meet Rich Roll someday--I just want to shake his hand and thank him! I'm also training for endurance events--it would be an honor to compete against him someday! ;)

I liked what he said about what type of food we put into our bodies, and how putting live plant based foods positively affect us, versus dead animal foods. When I used to eat meat and dairy, it really did feel like I was carrying dead weight afterward... no matter how enjoyable it was. Now, eating plant based, I feel energy after eating, not lethargy or bloating!

Rich kind of did create his own race with that whole "5 ultras in 5 days in Hawaii". In fact, it's that creativity in creating his own opportunities that I think is part of his story. From his book he tells of --- what was it --- he got his high school to create a swim team so that he could channel his swimming abilities into structured competitive opportunities.

When you urged Rich to come up with his own Race I think He should call it "Spirit Race"
