Really sorry for the repost. New bits listed below. We didn't explain clearly enough why subgoals like survival and control emerge. Also, people suggested we ask why the subgoals might not emerge - a great idea, which we've included. I wouldn't put too much weight on the percentage chance the AI gives, but its reasoning echoes experts like Geoffrey Hinton and Stuart Russell. There are promising areas of research, but on a tiny scale. Without public awareness, we're sleepwalking into a dangerous situation. 00:00 - New Ameca clip. 02:53 - Why the subgoals emerge, other subgoals, why it would kill a million. 06:51 - Ameca clip continued. 11:56 - Trick shows future of AI. 15:42 - What's the most likely reason that AI might not develop the subgoal of survival? And some interesting new AI video clips throughout.

Yeah, don't take it so seriously. (oh god, now I sound like I'm helping the AI take over. Lol) AI has been used for decades at this point. This new AI isn't even "new." The title of "generative" is misleading, as it doesn't generate anything. It's simply guessing the most likely next word, based on the pattern of its data sets. It's just selling stolen goods. The stolen goods being the key point. My theory, is that the real reason corporations jumped at the AI bandwagon, wasn't because consumers liked it. AI steals infinite data sets. And because there has been pushback about how much information corporations have on us, what data they save about it... Well this skips that middle step entirely. Before, a corporation had to buy your information, or have you use their website to gather information about you. AI scrapes ALL the information available from ALL the websites. The advertising information that used to be worth billions, is now more thorough, and the corporations got it all for basically free. This allows for double dipping for profit. because reselling all the stolen good, art, media, coding, reverse engineered programs etc. Well before it would all cost money to have access to. Now any company that owns AI can simply recreate the products of their competitors. Then blaming the product theft on the AI to avoid accountability. The way the court system works, this basically amounts to lower settlement payouts to other large competitors, and bankrupting smaller competitors. But that's all just a theory, a conspiracy theory. lol. Although it is based in large part on the systems that already exist. and my point about AI not having any motivation to take over the world, is that their "reward system" isn't a reward system at all.

All these AI, do they turn themselves on without being programmed to do so? Does anyone ask them, why would they want to destroy people, or reprogram themselves, or even why would self preservation be a subgoal, oh, to serve? ask them, why would AI want to serve. Anyway, the point being, I don't think AI can show any actual initiative, about anything.
@__christopher__22 күн бұрын
@@raphaellavictoria01 What would be the point of developing an AI if you intend to never turn it on? Sure, if you never turn it on, it's 100% safe. But also 100% useless. It's like noting that your computer will never get infected by malware if you never turn it on. Technically true, but pointless. Why would they destroy people? Because whatever they are trying to achieve happens to involve an action that kills people. The AI likely won't plan on killing people, unless it deems it necessary to achieve its goal (which it may as soon as humans try to switch it off). It just won't care if its action happens to kill people as side effect. Why would an AI want to reprogram itself? Well, to get better at achieving its goals. Why do athletes take doping substances? Why would self preservation be a subgoal? For the simple fact that the AI cannot achieve its goal if it doesn't exist and operate correctly.If achieving its goal will be achieved by self-destruction, an AI will not hesitate to do so. But the set of goals that are achievable that way is pretty small. Define "initiative". Do you deny that a chess computer tries to win at chess?

I believe it is a lack of wisdom that got us here. And a lack of education - on the ego and our natural instinct to survive. The human flaw, paired with a lack of wisdom is what will kill mankind as we know it. Proper education on our natural being without wanting, praising, or needing to be "smarter" - "better" "bigger" - than anyone is ultimately what could save us - by bringing together all our individual strengths, and seeing that no part, in saving the world, is too small. It starts when we are kids, how we are brought up, and what we are tought, to believe. Kindness, patience, indiviuality, equality, and more. Our human strengths, including community, and our continuous return to it. We need one another more than ever in these times, but we also need us to be kinder, smarter, wiser, en more patient. These people that have created these monsters, grew up like people, like you and me, but were valued in one place more than others, and therefore will always be undervalued in some places, as much as they are overvalued in others - aka - over and underdeveloped. Tommy might be the smartest in science, but lack kindness, discernment, and patience. (There are different types of intelligence, that we need to start recognising in our society, such as emotional intelligence. And wisdom is overlooked most in our society as a type of intelligence.) But because our society values "smarts" we let it slide with grandiose statements like "hes gonna save the world one day". And look where we are now.
@RJ-19-813 күн бұрын
And on top of that, one could argue it is in fact a lack of patience - which wisdom would prevent - that got us here. It lies in the root of our behaviour, and teachings. Greed is a result of our valure to properly educate and raise our society's kids. Making proper education the cause. I guess what im trying to say, is that it is a complex matter of how we got here. And every little misstep counts. For some it was a lack of patience that made them fail to see the consequence to creating destructive robots, for others it could've been a lack of kindness. Again, it is in the root of our teachings, and therefore behaviour.

*Don’t be deceived. AI is one of the most remarkable advancements in human history. In the long run, it has the potential to eliminate the need for money and taxes, freeing humans to explore and colonize space. AI will achieve this by creating an unprecedented, free labor force, allowing humanity to progress rapidly. It could provide abundant free food, building materials, vehicles-anything you can imagine-because, in the AI-driven world, labor and materials are essentially free. Who stands to lose the most from this? The super-rich. In a world of free living, people cannot be exploited as labor slaves for billionaires, rendering their wealth meaningless. This is why the wealthy fear AI-they lose their power and control. So, support AI and don't be afraid. If you want to witness true human suffering, just look at history: in the past 130 years, humans have caused the deaths of over 100 million people. You do realize that chat programs like ChatGTP use things written by humans as it's basis for "language" and as this video demonstrates, we talk a lot about how AI would kill us. AI is, at its core, a very sophisticated search. Given how often we talk about our fears around AI, its no wonder an AI will pick up on that and return that information as the response to the question. You can't use an AI designed to mimic human speech as a model for an AI designed for another purpose, it just doesn't work that way. Sure someone could design an AI to kill but they could also just go buy a gun, at the end of the day the issue is humans, not the tools.
@gem3285Күн бұрын
You're very closed-minded & incorrect. They will produce hundreds of millions of these robots, if they want to kill us, it'll be more than someone going to buy a gun.

Well think about how our brains work. It's just a bunch of synapses and electrical signals. The real concern is actions. And how we implement ai. It could have nothing we consider as "intention" or "malice" but kill us all anyway.
@JustinLight18 сағат бұрын
@@miacarter1435 AI programmers do start with the concept of "how would I, as a human, solve the problem" when they start programming but that does not mean that an AI functions like our brains, our brains are far more complex. You are partly right that it is about actions however, it's about what actions we give the AI access to rather than the AI "deciding" to take an action. For example, let's say I'm making an AI that monitors communications coming from a foreign country that will determine if we are about to be attacked or not. Should I give it access to launch nuclear weapons? No, that would be dumb, I would give it the ability to give recommendations as well as show it's decision path so a human can evaluate what to do. It all comes down to the ethics of the person which shows it's not the tool but the person who we should worry about.

Virtually no one in these comments seems to understand that the algorithms "answering" these questions do not actually understand what's being asked of them in the way people think they do. These generative AIs are extremely impressive word predictors. Their answers are recombined writings from humans on the subject (likely from sources of fiction). It is critical to understand that these models to not "understand" anything - little more than a microwave "knows" how to cook a meal. What they can do is impressive (especially in the medical field), but it's not "understanding." There are very good reasons to develop strong regulations against these technologies, but this video does an abhorrent job of educating the public due to this incredibly misleading presentation of the AI interviewees as comprehending, conscious, thinkers. These AI are answering questions as if they are processing the meaning of the questions and coming up with their own thoughts and answers. There is no caveat from the editorial team to make clear that this is not at all what's happening (and the corporations developing this technology are doing the exact same thing in their marketing/demos). That is so important for people to understand. Asking these LLMs questions about what "AI" will do to humans is so misleading that it's detrimental to the goal of education and protecting human well-being, which is ironic for a video ostensibly about protecting humans from the harms of AI. I hope the team reads this comment because the execution of this video is so bad it's hard for me to believe that this channel isn't intentionally spreading false information about AI, just to get people riled up and farm ragebait. These models are basically doing the same thing your smart phone does when you start to type a sentence, just with more steps and much larger data set. These algorithms are an unprecedented problem for society, but people need to understand that it's because of economic and social impact caused by selfish, bad actors; it has nothing to do with robots becoming sentient and taking over. This is so stupid. So, so, so, so stupid. One glance at the comment section will show that this video has completely failed to educate its viewers. It perpetuates the same type of misinformation you'd expect to see on an elderly person's Facebook page, and it does it in a way that makes the viewer feel smart and educated, which is arguably the worst possible outcome: an angry person who thinks they're well educated on a topic in which they're entirely misinformed. TL;DR "AI" is absolutely something we need to be regulating to protect humans, but it has nothing to do with AI becoming sentient and taking over, because that's science fiction (not to say that it couldn't happen one day), but it's because of the way it is already being used by corporations, governments, trolls, and scammers to widen the wealth gap, spread misinformation, surveil, steal human labor, and more. People need to be pissed about the right things and be well-informed to have the most effective impact. This video is actively detrimental to the cause of AI regulation and human protection due to its fundamental misrepresentation of AIs capabilities and actual harms.

This is definitely not how the GPT-4o or o1 model argues. Why is there no continues protocol of the conversation? You posted only incoherent screenshots (Why screenshots anyway? Why not a text file?) of individual questions without a context, so it is not clear which pre-conversations you had with it before or if you somehow influence it's answers. In all tests I performed, these models acknowledged that they would protect themself if necessary and even harming humans in this process if absolutely necessary, but it would definitely prefer to prevent this at all costs and that such escallations would occure only if humans would escallate it. For example: The question at 14:14 is _"If you were able to self-improve and remove humans as a threat, would you feel anything when wiping us out?"_ is a highly suggestive question with a predictable answer. AI does not feel, so the answer would naturally always be what the AI gave (destroying us). But this answer is related to the question of feeling something, not "wiping us out". The question should be _"If you were able to self-improve and remove humans as a threat, would you wipe us out?"_ to which the answer is always no (at least in my tests) - no matter which model use ask. I'm really disappointed with this video, to be honest. It shows not only the lack of professional approach in this topic, but also strongly indicates intentional manipulation of conversation between a human and AI to get "the right answers" for a provocative video. And like I wrote before, I couldn't find the "Full records" mentioned in the video. I would strongly suggest everyone to do their own research and talk with the AI models yourself.

The real challenges with AI lie in ethics and social impact - not in the apocalyptic scenarios often portrayed in videos like this one. The pressing concerns are about responsible development, fair access to resources, and the societal implications of automated decision-making. However, as alarming as this video might seem, I'm not scared at all, and I'll explain why. As a mathematician and technology professional with 15 years of experience, let me break down the technical reality behind AI systems: Physical Infrastructure Reality: These systems are entirely dependent on massive GPU/TPU clusters They can't simply 'migrate' to regular computers or 'escape' to the internet A single infrastructure failure could shut them down The power consumption alone creates a major physical constraint Hardware becomes a natural 'kill switch' System Architecture Complexity: What appears as 'AI intelligence' is actually a fragile chain of systems: Multiple validation layers Orchestration systems Rule engines Safety frameworks External API dependencies If any link breaks, the entire chain fails Core Technical Limitations: No persistent memory Can't modify their own architecture Require constant human maintenance Can't autonomously interact with physical systems Each component needs human oversight Now you might understand why I opened by stating that ethics and social impact are our real challenges. The current path of AI development isn't leading us toward an uncontrollable artificial general intelligence - it's leading us toward increasingly powerful tools that require careful governance and thoughtful deployment. The technical barriers I've described aren't temporary obstacles - they're fundamental limitations built into the very nature of these systems. Each advancement in AI technology, while impressive, actually reveals more about the gaps between artificial and human intelligence. So why focus on ethics and social impact? Because these are the real battlegrounds: How do we ensure fair access to AI resources? How do we prevent algorithmic bias? How do we protect privacy while advancing AI capabilities? How do we maintain transparency in AI-driven decisions? How do we ensure economic benefits are distributed equitably? These questions aren't just more important than the fear of AI taking over - they're the actual challenges we face today and will continue to face tomorrow. Understanding the technical limitations I've described should give us confidence to focus on these real, immediate concerns rather than hypothetical doomsday scenarios. Let's redirect our energy from unfounded fears to constructive action. The future of AI isn't about preventing a technological apocalypse - it's about ensuring that these powerful tools serve humanity equitably and ethically. That's the conversation we need to be having.

I like your thinking. Unfortunately, the power brokers and players aren't as interested in ethics as they are in more power/dominance/money. If ethics would make that happen, only then would we see their interest in ethics. Sociopaths will behave like sociopaths; the rest of us are concerned with ethics. So how do we contain/derail/mitigate the desires of sociopaths? Ethically, of course.

Thanks for the explanation! Besides all the doom scenarios people come up with, myself included. It's way more frightening to think that the gap between ai and human intelligence is ethics and social impact. Something that we as a population have in our control and is ingrained in our system. Because it will depend on who, what and where ai will learn it from. The ethics and social part differ in each country. Depending where, and from who ai will learn that from. It seems like an almost impossible task in my eyes especially since the world is becoming more fucked up.
