Great video! But, I need to make one huge correction: DCS World is certainly NOT an “empty shell”. It includes a large and recently updated Caucasus map, an Su-25T Russian attack jet and a TF-51D Mustang. All for free. These allow new players to first try DCS World without paying a cent and see how their hardware handles it. Also, the MIN SPEC is based on the default LOW preset and plays quite well.
@grimreapers6 жыл бұрын
Roger Matt, will find a way of making the correction on the vid.

ROFL smacked by the dev! We love you, Grimmy :) Agreed; great video! But to be honest, there is a hidden compliment in here. If there is SO FLIPPING MUCH content available for purchase (modules / maps) that the basic version "feels" empty by comparison, then what does that say about all the extra content out there? Point: this sim is HUGE and you can take it as far as you want!

I started playing DCS because I… was an empty shell. Every time I played a game I always felt bad for the time lost in game and not outside the house. But with DCS it’s like the essentials of being a man. You cannot feel empty after becoming better day after day playing. I never was ending a session in DCS and felt bad about it. Even the fact that you have to learn a LOT to fly your first plane (or helicopter) makes it even more rewarding. The fact that you know that what is there in front of you it’s a real fidelity model of an military airplane makes it even more rewarding if you think that not so much time ago, everything about those models was classified. And the last surprise that this game gave me was the ability to use my joysticks. I don’t know why, must be my fortune or lack of, but everything that I want to achieve is more difficult to me. My first hotas was a thrustmaster warthog, then I bought a vkb ultimate. And those didn’t work in other games and I spent literally days reading the forums and watching videos. I had more luck with a thrustmaster x, the cheesier of them all. But DCS is so damn perfect that everything worked from the start, no hassle at all. Sometimes I felt bad for not having a wife, a family, but now all changed. After 140 games bought on Steam, I abandoned them all….DCS is all I need

Theres also a DCS World Steam Edition - obviously on steam. Can you tell me if it's the "same" as the DCS World 2.5 from the Website or if i will have any disadvantage if i use the Steam Edition?
@barrythebee66243 жыл бұрын
Advantages of using steam is that you get automatic updates, but if you don't use steam version and use the standalone version (version that he is presenting in the video from THEIR site, not steam), you will most likely get more sales on modules (modules are the addon aircraft such as extra maps, extra missions/campaigns, and extra aircraft such as F/A-18, F-14B, A-10, etc. Modules bought from the standalone version are NOT compatible with the steam version, and if you buy from steam you only get sales on modules when steam has their big sales such as the steam summer sale, etc. But the base price (non sale) for modules is the same for both versions, for example the F/A-18C (as of June 2021) is $80 USD. TL;DR: If you buy from steam you get the same game, but with automatic updates, but you won't get as many sales on different aircraft/maps/campaigns/etc, if you buy standalone you get more sales, same game as steam, but no automatic updates.

V SYNC CAUSES A LARGE DROP IN PERFORMANCE. While it might eliminate some screen tearing, it will cause you to run at a lower frame rate. Do not use it if you have a monitor with g sync or free sync, and it should be the first thing that you turn off if you are looking for a higher frame rate

Since i am a "computer guy" I will give a quick rundown of the options and recommend certain things. Note: I haven't played this game yet, but I still belive my predictions will be 90% accurate. If you got anyquestion or want to tell me how bad my english is (I already know it) feel free to write a comment. *Textures* Important for the quality of you cockpit. Will require moderate VRam (The storage your Graphics card has for textures) Overall recommended to put it on the highest setting *Terrain Textures* Obvious Will require lots of VRam. Not worth it if you dont have a lot of VRam, since you will be looking into the sky most of the time. *Civ. Traffic* Civilian Traffic Mostly more work for you processor. Maybe important if you want to shoot cinematics *Water* Processing intensive Medium settings usually is the best *Visib. Range* Very important Determines how much of the world is rendered. Highest settings if possible *Heat blurr* Not so important Only use it in cinematics *Shadows* Determines how sharp the shadows do look. Very important aspect of your experience Highest settings recommended *Resolution* Chose the highest resolution possible. 1920*1080 recommended for weaker pcs If you do have a WQHD Monitor it would be best to lower some settings in order to ramp your resolution up. *Cockpit Displays* Down to personal preference *MSAA* Renderes the image at a higher resolution, to scale it down. This softens the edges The higher the better 16X is recommended if your resolution is lower then 1920*1080. If its higher turn it off. Dont sacrifice shadows or textures. *Depth of field* No *Lens effects* Yes Expandet it a bit *Grass* Decides how many sprites (textures) are visible on the screen. Absolutely useless... Very performance hungry. If you have bad performance its best to reduce this instead of textures, MSAA etc. *Trees* Just like the grass thingy, but it actually has an impact, besides bad fps Bit more iportant than grass, but still negligible *Preeload radius* The radius, at which your PC already loads the images, to reduce stuttering and plopping If your hardware isnt strong enough it causes stuttering itself. Only for powerfull rigs *Anisotrophic filtering* Very important Textures usually get distorted if you viw them at an angle This prevents that and is therefore the second most important setting Medium impact on performance *Global ilumination* Calculates reflections and refractions Direct lighting calculates the rays from a light scource and how they hit an object Global ilumination calculates how the light bounces of surfaces and how different objects iluminate others

Hi there. I am back to pc after an absence of a number of years and am thrilled to now have a machine that should run this sim beautifully. Also, for the first time EVER, I have an internet connection which isn’t completely Stone Age. It’s not world beating... but on a good day, it’s five times the speed of my old single digits affair and for our purposes I’m very happy with it. I ran DCS all those years ago and have a number of modules. I do seem to remember the initial download being pretty horrific, but I wasn’t worried about that this time. I mean, I just downloaded the entire world for X-Plane 11 and it wasn’t too painful. But starting the DCS download.. it barely seemed to be moving. There was no indication of how long it was actually going to take and fuelled by posts from people saying it took them 24 hrs! I cancelled out of it for the moment. Do you think I might be doing something wrong? Also. The install notes recommend turning off your antivirus to speed things up! Really? That seems like a staggeringly bad idea and I really don’t want to be doing that.

They really hype up this game, the hole game is so frustrating just to set it up, their should be an easy mode

yup so true

I want to enter the DCS world, but never played any combat game this intense. Can you suggest some resources or documentation where I can learn the basics of air combat, maneuverings and associated stuff?
@grimreapers5 жыл бұрын
download DCS learn to use the free plane, we have 20 tutorials on it. If you like it then you will slowly grow from there.

This is Game reminds me of Star Citizen. Great Game if you understand it. But a Serious Learning Curve and Hardware Requirements to play.

Question: The multiplayer numbers seem quite low atm. Are most people still playing the older version or what?

Real flying costs over $120 @ hour for dual instruction. Or $220 @ HOUR FOR HELICOPTER DUAL TRAINING!

I don’t know if anyone will see this but I just bought a key for the F-18 but then found out that steam doesn’t take them. Does this version take keys of G2A?
@grimreapers5 жыл бұрын
to play the hornet you need to install the non-Steam DCS. Steam no longer supported by DCS. this is what you asked?

Hey Cap, as usual a good and very informative video, which should come in especially helpful for those new to these sim / simming niche. I was kind of hoping for a Chuck's Guides reference in the section about aircraft setup though, as these guides and the videos that you guys (GrimReapers) put out so diligently are IMHO the best ways to get familiar with (new) aircraft. However, they are naturally not exclusive to one another and I think having the information available on seperate media (eg a nice GR video as well as a crisp guide by Chuck) does wonders for the DCS module learning process, especially if you can cross-reference the 2. Any thoughs?

Nanne118 i agree with this i also wish to see videos for fixes when the install breaks and other bugs preventing playing or making it harder to play from bugs

It´s the most difficult game to play, I have not yet had any success setting up my X52 Pro, it´s so difficult. Watching YT videoes on how to, and I can´t find what they are saying when using the search function under "control".......jesus it´s tuff.

Bro downloading's the worst part. I mean there should be a way in which you first download the basic game and then it downloads everything extra.
