It's horrifying that pineapple control is so strong in a country that generally told me in school that the best way to avoid pineapples on pizza was to just NOT have pizza at all, instead of giving age-appropriate guidance on how to order pizza in a safe way that lessens the chance of unwanted toppings.

We're at the nexus. EVERYTHING'S happening faster. Ever seen one of those graphs that show human progress in tech and population slowly rising over millenia, then somewhat faster over centuries? Someone noticed the line fits a huperbolic curve. Movement in one direction (x horizontal, y vertical), then comes a spinning point or nexus, and suddenly the line flips. We're going to have enormous change in increasingly shorter time.

Fun fact: fuel has a shelf life gasoline 3 - 6 months Diesel about a year ethanol 1- 3 months The bit has her talking to herself 7 months ago, the gas she stored might not work. The rate of degradation depends on storage factors like temperature and pressure. Those wondering about our fuel reserves, that I hear Biden is not releasing, that's stored as crude oil. Gasoline is a byproduct from processing it. If you are still reading and wondering why it stops working, it's complicated. Basically, it slowly turns into a sticky "gum-like" substance. Your vehicle's engine is designed to compress a fuel-air mix in the pistons, that when ignited push the piston down, simultaneously compressing the opposite piston while cranking the axle. Over time, as the fuel degrades, it takes more pressure to ignite. It's losing molecules called hydrocarbons, that are being released as fumes. So, your engine may not be capable of working. Especially, when starting the initial combustion. Plus, once the "gum" starts forming, it can start blocking the fuel line, like plaque in arteries. Which means that putting good fuel in a car's fuel tank that has been idle for months, likely will not work because the fuel line is blocked up. Bottom line, don't spend money buying gas you intend to store and maybe use months later.

Fuel stabilizer eats into your cost savings if the price goes up, and makes the hit even worse if the cost goes down-- so yeah, it's basically just like short-term stock trading or any other form of gambling: if you can't be 100% certain that you have better knowledge of the future than the other people do, then you'll lose money in the long run.

To prove your point and talk about current affairs. What you said is true and it is one of the reasons Russian missiles are so inaccurate. Most countries rotate the propellant out of their missiles every 3 years.. Russia never rotates their propellant so some of it has degraded to the point where it gives an uneven burn which makes it impossible to control accurately.

For more than 2 decades I didn't want pineapple on my pizza. I learned this when I was the unfortunate recipient of an unwanted pineapple topping. But this was back in the day when I was able to have my pineapple safely removed, and I'm very glad that I did because I know in my heart of hearts I simply wasn't ready for the responsibility of handling pineapple back then. Today things have changed. I've enjoyed pineapple on my pizza for the past 3 years and it's honestly the Best. Thing. Ever. And you know what? That's OK too. For 20 years I wasn't ready for pineapple. Now I am. That's how it goes sometimes. I've changed. I've matured. I've come to have a better appreciation of all pizza toppings in general. And if I had been forced to keep that pineapple from 20 years ago, it would have been bad. Bad for me. Bad for the pineapple. Bad for the person whom I chose to share my pizza. And that's the point. Today pineapple is great for me. But for a long, long time, pineapple would have completely ruined my life and the lives of those around me. I guess what I'm saying is that nobody knows your pizza choices better than you, and the government should keep their damned noses out of our entire pizza experience.

The bag tearing is extremely rare if handled properly though. Pizza topping bags are manufactured to some pretty high standards, so you can be very confident that if something goes wrong, it's the fault of the pizza place; like maybe they chose to use two bags at once, which counterintuitively increases the risks of tearing by a _lot,_ or they're handling the bag too roughly and don't really know how to package their pineapples with it. If you have the option, you should always learn about the pizza place you're planning order from. Maybe ask other franchisees or previous customers, talk to the staff and get to know them a bit before choosing to order their pizzas. It's no guarantee that you'll be properly informed and of course it shouldn't be on the customer to have to find out whether their pizza place is going to mess up their orders; but it'll give you a better idea of how professional and respectful they'll be about handling your pizza and their pineapples. The best solution, as with any important societal issue, is proper education. Teach people properly about pizzas, toppings, the consequences of putting pineapples on a pizza without consent from the customer, and safe, clean pineapple removal procedures, and so much needless suffering can be prevented.
@ItsAsparageese

@@Zappygunshot You're right in a lot of ways, and I dig your values for sure (and you did an especially great job balancing responsibility-realism in discussing getting to know one's pizza place without ever crossing into victim-blaming -- NICE! I know how hard that nuance is to get across!). That said, I also gotta toss out there, you're placing way, way, _way_ too much faith in toppings bags. They break far more often than you're giving credit for, even with careful correct use. And other methods of topping prevention all have failure rates. Education is critical and I'm not arguing against it (I'm a BIG public health nerd), but I was plenty well-educated and already a healthcare professional when I had two toppings removals myself within a year at one point long ago, because multiple stacked methods of prevention failed both times. And even though the toppings weren't on my pizzas for long, I ended up with permanent issues as a result of just that short time with each, and not freak rare issues either. If I hadn't been able to get both rounds of pineapple removed, I'd be even more physically messed up now, probably totally disabled instead of just first having chronic pain for years from the pineapple and then other stuff separately later. Nowadays, I've had the wonderful privilege of having a pro remove both can openers from my personal pizza place, so no pineapple can exit the cans and land on a pizza, which is by far the most certain way to prevent toppings -- many people just break their can openers in case they might want to try to fix them later, but that fails remarkably often, so I just had mine taken away entirely -- and even THIS has a non-zero failure rate! (To be fair, I could only find one ever documented case of someone still winding up with pineapple after removal of both can openers, and they said in the summary that they were pretty sure it's the only recorded time that's ever happened, BUT STILL ... NON-ZERO! 😳) And even if it were 100%, many people don't have access to any can opener removal or other good toppings prevention besides bags (if that) at all, and nobody should have to use a permanent method just to have peace of mind when ordering pizza. (Access sucks, let's be real. I had to get unrelatedly-disabled out of a previous career to be broke enough to get Medicaid before I had any options for coverage of any medical bc method at all, let alone the salpingectomy and ablation I went with. I spent nearly a decade between my toppings removals and my can opener removals being a bit terrified in the back of my mind every single time I ever ordered a pizza, with zero health coverage the entire time to either help me with pineapple prevention or help me deal with any pineapple problems.) So yeah. I absolutely agree that we need more and better preventive education, that people need to take best practices seriously, and that reinforcing these norms will help a significant-somewhat with rates of unwanted/harmful pineapple. But it's absolutely critical that we never boil the issue down to that alone, especially because the VAST majority of toppings-removals _don't_ result from the situations those strategies address, and there will _always_ be ones that aren't preventable by any broad methods, and there will almost certainly never be perfect prevention, and there will almost certainly never be perfect medical foresight into predicting risks of harm before any develop. Autonomy is critical on principle both ethically and as a best logical utilitarian practice. I don't think your comment necessarily took any position in opposition to this; perhaps you even agree. But sometimes concentrating our lens too much on prevention/risk reduction ... I can't believe I just said the phrases "too much" and "risk reduction" in one sentence lol, I assure you, I know how it sounds ... can make us forget to also separately and equally firmly advocate for the broadest safety-net principles that will always be necessary to account for all edge cases, no matter how far we ever get with reducing and otherwise accounting for all the non-edge ones. So yeah. I just truly cannot emphasize enough that there are absolutely no perfect toppings prevention methods, and when it comes to public health, we absolutely cannot sweep non-zero amounts of harms/bad patient outcomes into a disregarded "it's unlikely" margin. At large scales, unlikely cases add up very fast, and make for real serious consequences for many real people.

maybe require anybody who intends to put pineapple on pizza to have their supply chain disrupted to prevent pineapple happening by accident. when, and only when, everybody at the party agrees they want pineapple they can reopen the suez canal. it's the least domino's could do given their role in requiring people to eat pineapple.

@kennethfharkin

So can the government tell you that you aren't allowed to take crack or heroin? Can the government ban prostitution? My body my choice, right? I am not saying governments should ban abortion, I am saying it is disingenuous to claim government has no legal grounds to regulate that private behavior. I am also pointing out that the SCOTUS decision has nothing to do if abortion should be allowed on moral grounds, it is purely a question of State and Federal legislative authority under the Constitution. Acknowledging the legal authority of states to legislate private behavior on items like cocaine and prostitution means the tenuous legal grasping of straws to construe a right of personal privacy protected by the Due Process Clause somehow applying to abortion is nonsense. Either private behavior be legislated or it cannot under the COTUS and it is pretty clear that it can be legislated. Wanting to have access to abortions has nothing to do with the SCOTUS case. It simply addressed a disastrous overreach by an earlier court looking to play the role of activist rather than ensuring legislation conformed to the COTUS. Now this is rightly back with the states. Many will have it with zero restriction, some may ban outright, most will go somewhere in the middle. This is funny as this is pretty much exactly like the entirety of Europe where nations have different laws on the matter, almost all with some form of regulation, yet I do not hear nearly the outcry about that. Personally I believe there should be unrestricted access for at least the first trimester and later pending extenuating conditions but this is now up to each state.

Conflating the two together to downplay what's going on IRL for the lols is kind of twisted, tbh. Then again, it's kind of even more twisted that, in this country, it's easier to riot and protest about abortion than it is to tell a woman to take responsibility for her own actions.

@@Shuizid Ah, the old 'forced' chestnut which makes up what? Less than 1% of all abortions? @@evilblackcat6357 It’s definitely dark humor, but I don’t think Julie’s downplaying the scenario just for the laughs. It has an unspoken message in the background that this entire scenario is utter bullshit, and our leaders need to do better to prevent situations like this. But I get you. Not all women are making bad decisions out there - mistakes happen, and sadly there are situations where women are not in control and need this medical freedom. I’m a male by the way and furious.
