Today’s video is all about the collaborative creative work of illustrator E.H. Shepard and author A.A. Milne. I found out a few things about each of these men that surprised me, although in retrospect, the events that occurred in their lives seem completely reasonable. While talking about them, on screen, you see me making a copy of an E.H. Shepard illustration and then I made two pastiches of his work from my own photographs taken at the Sandy River in early spring.
Thank you for clicking on this description! I feel like I’m starting to get a handle on “content creation,” at least for art videos. It is still very exciting just to imagine that people watch my videos. At the moment I uploaded this video, my subscriber count was 3105 people.
All music is from the youtube audio library.
There are amazon affiliate links sprinkled around in here. These are items that I have found to bring joy to my life and I hope they do the same for you. If you click on the link and actually buy something (anything!) from amazon, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you - and that helps to support this channel.

What I used in this video:
Tachikawa nib pen: amzn.to/3phJmS6
Nibs (compatible with Tachikawa) from: amzn.to/3Jssnnd
Sepia ink from Winsor & Newton: amzn.to/3XodKXv
Stash wild raspberry hibiscus tea: amzn.to/3CPmvQV
The Natural World of Winnie-the-Pooh by Kathryn Aalto: amzn.to/3Ppgv94
The colors I used are: M.Graham Cerulean Blue, M.Graham Pyrrol Red, M.Graham Ivory Black, Winsor & Newton Payne’s Gray and Winsor & Newton Quinacridone Gold. I buy paint tubes from Blick Art.
---
Favorite supplies that usually appear in my videos:
1. A porcelain plate or tray from the goodwill makes a great palette. So does a plastic lid from a yogurt container.
2. A used talenti ice cream cup is perfect for swish water; also a great way to buy art supplies when you “have to” eat the contents first.
3. A cheap Robert Simmons Expressions brush is perfect. The one I’m using here is an E85 Round, size 12. You can buy one at Blick Art.
4. I use a glass bottle that used to contain facial toner for my spray bottle. The toner was expensive, but it has a very pretty label. The spray is a fine mist and the bottle is the perfect size for using at home and also for taking out on location.
Some of my favorite art books:
Breaking the Rules of Watercolor by Shirley Trevena: amzn.to/3IoJLZL
Taking Risks With Watercolor by Shirley Trevena: amzn.to/3SMqCV8
Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards: amzn.to/3kIwiDd
-----
What I use to film and edit my videos:
Small, flexible tripod with screw-on grippy attachment that holds my GoPro: amzn.to/3mEEGUU
Desk mount device that I use with the screw-on grippy attachment that came with my tripod - the desk mount (in combination with the grippy attachment) holds my GoPro 18-inches above my table: amzn.to/3L81XbK
Blue yeti microphone: amzn.to/3Fw1IE7
Lightning to USB Camera Adaptor - this is what I use to connect the blue yeti microphone to my ipad for voice over editing: amzn.to/3ZNxuUE
GoPro Hero10: amzn.to/3TFnvyU
It takes some getting used to, but for filming on hikes it is much better than using my iPhone.

Good morning Kendra and all. A nice relaxing and informative start to my day. You are very calming, the way you move your brush or pen, and your voice, and the interesting stories you share with us. Take care

Thank you, Sue! :-) I loved what I learned about EH Shepard and AA Milne for this one… there’s the work we see and then there’s the backstory of the artist which is so very interesting.

I enjoyed your take on the Winnie the Pooh and loved your paintings of your local area and in the inspiration of the artwork. I also spent many hours in your PNW area hiking and exploring. Just lovely

Thank you! It’s summer, so of course we’ve been visiting our old hiking haunts - this time with a camera and an eye to making videos. In the future, I am sure I will be showing more scenes from the Columbia River Gorge, Sauvie Island, Hood River, etc.

Your videos are quite well done, camera use, audio, and musical undertones, quite pleasing. It is always a nice surprise to come across a new video from you. Your educational content aspects are interesting and helpful, as you pay attention to your own mistakes as you work. I guess an architect utilizes some aspects of graphic art. You draw with a confidence and realism not all of have. Thank you again. Larry

Thank you very much! I find so much pleasure in doing the research… in understanding the lives of the artists (or authors) behind the work.

Update...recvd nibs, holders & inks today...a big change from microns & gelly rolls....TY for the tips again. p.s. learned to use paper towel to insert or detach nibs to prevent oils/etc on hands from contaminating the tips & thereby the inks....don't know if that's a for sure issue but it seems smart.

Yay! Have you tried them out yet? I felt intimidated, I think, and waited a couple of weeks after mine arrived before I tried them out. Well, not exactly… I did try them for a minute, but it took me a while to give them a serious test run.

Thank you for your kind words! :-) I’ve found drawing with the nib pen super rewarding, although lately I’ve felt like it’s really too bad that I feel reluctant to take it for outside sketching… the drawing process is so satisfying but I’m afraid the bottle of ink will get knocked over.

@@klwebuga you might have small glass jars from makeup or skin creams to repurpose. Also...health food stores often have such for diy selves, preferably dark brown or blue with a decent screw-on lid. ii use a pipette or eye dropper to fill.

That’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve been focusing on the work of Edmund Dulac. He illustrated children’s stories back in the day.

Thanks for mentioning Edmund Dulac - his work is new to me - and OH MY it’s so detailed! I think I would try a master copy of just a small corner of one of his pieces because wow, the detail. So cool. :-)

Do you know the author Delphine de Vigan? She has written an interesting book that tells the story of influencer promoting their kids on social media and what this means for the kids and families. The original title is Les enfants sont rois. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed listening and watching the drawing process
