Thank you for this video. I was wondering if you happen to know what the diameter of the roll is when rolled up? I am planning a trip where I want to get a roll since where I’m from it’s not available but size is a limitation since I have to put it in an artists tube so the diameter is of great importance, unfortunately I haven’t been able to find this info online. Thanks again.

How nice to watch your KZbin channel. I suddenly thought... hey I met you during a live zoom from Emma Carlisle... you have a super nice channel and yes, the frogs are absolutely fantastic and you can certainly be proud of your KZbin channel. Kendra, I am so thrilled to have found you and in particular, this video. I'm always searching for artists that seem to be like-minded in the way they approach their process, and I will unapologetically say, their work actually reminds me of my own! Because I love my stuff! Even the raggiest little scribbles that lead to something; anything. Most importantly, I treasure growth by constantly learning from many talented artists world wide, in all kinds of styles, using tools of all sorts. I like to reference other artists on my social media and plan to do that often on my KZbin channel, which features sketchbook tours, my fav thing! Greetings from Dallas!

Amazing! I am so happy when you post another video. I love the way you do backgrounds. So loose and free. You seem to just clean off your brush from working on the focal point and then blend? I'd love you to do a slower talked through explanation so I can start to grasp that. You make it look so organic so I guess it just flows out? Any pointers to help us get to that goal? 🙏

Hi Sue! Thank you for your kind words. When I’m working, I have to shift from the left brain (the side that thinks things through logically) to the right brain (intuitive and visual)… and therefore, even when I watch back what I’ve done, I sometimes wonder: how did I think to do that? :-)

For some reason I can never edit my comment, so I wanted to add this comment to ask which level of Emma Carlisle’s Patreon you think might be most useful? I started looking at her Patreon yesterday and can’t quite decide which strikes the best balance between being useful and perhaps having too many features I won’t use. Do you do the Zoom sessions?
@klwebuga3 ай бұрын
I joined Emma’s Patreon at the top tier ($20/month) back at the end of September. I do attend the zoom calls live whenever the timing works out… she’s in London and I’m in Oregon, so sometimes the times land right in the middle of my night. I think of her Patreon as a class. Years ago, I took watercolor classes through our local community college and I think they ran about $150/10 weeks, so $15/session. She records all of the calls and also some extra “teaching” videos and now she has 3 years of material. Whenever I don’t have a crow to spark my creativity, I dip in to an old video of hers and draw along. It keeps me engaged in my art and she has a very kind and encouraging manner.
@Anonymoi3 ай бұрын
@@klwebuga Thanks for the info.. It definitely sounds worth it. Classes around here are much more than that now and it does look like she has a lot of useful material. I wasn’t thinking about the time zone issue… I am in New England so I am 3 hours closer, but still pretty out of sync, but I am fine with watching a video. Inspiration to exercise those art muscles when I don’t feel like doing anything “big” is just what I need. I was previously a “patron” at the $20 (top) level (for far too long) for another artist, and that one just didn’t work out well… the artist probably had the best intentions early on, but I think he not only ran out of energy but was overly optimistic with his plan to give not just more videos, but to differentiate level of content (beginner to advanced) based on payment tier. He basically stopped posting with any frequency and what he did post was often random musings and never instruction or demonstrations. There was not really any opportunity for interaction although he would sometimes respond to comments. I was really surprised to see the model other artists are using.
@Anonymoi3 ай бұрын
That crow artwork is very timely! There is a recreation area/nature preserve with a dam near where I live, and you can drive across the dam although there is rarely any traffic on it. I was driving across it the other day when I noticed an absolutely massive bird - I’m actually not sure if it was a crow or a raven - sitting on the fencing along the edge of the dam. I stopped and watched for a while and even rolled down my window - it was so tame and was watching me, at my level, just a few feet away. I got a bunch of photos I have hoped to somehow incorporate into my art. Re: art hauls… I didn’t start watching KZbin videos (other than the occasional video when I needed to learn how to fix or make something) until the pandemic. I was late to the “art haul” genre, and initially couldn’t get enough of them, as an art supply junkie. But I bought way too much and I would say actually developed a sort of “art haul fatigue,” and now I just want to see materials used. I know making videos showing process is a lot of work, but it’s so helpful to see what other people are doing.
@klwebuga3 ай бұрын
Ah hah, Julia Cameron (who wrote The Artist’s Way) would call this ‘synchronicity.’ Now you definitely need to pay attention to your bird! I bet it was a bird of prey if it was massive. In any case, how cool. I’m so glad you appreciate my “process” video! I’ve seen other artists make art haul videos and they seem to bring a lot of views, but I just can’t see myself getting into that. I really, really love hearing about the “why” of creating - what sparks an idea and how does it develop.
@Anonymoi3 ай бұрын
@@klwebuga Well the bird was like a fat house cat… perhaps looked so massive to me since he was just sitting calmly and tame, like a cat, at the same level as my car window, a few feet away. I think it was a raven. He really had intelligent eyes and I thought of Edgar Allen Poe!

I just found your channel and really enjoyed this video. I watch a lot of art KZbin channels, but have somehow not come upon the term “prepared page,” although I am of course familiar with people reusing paper with mistakes, or where they wiped their brush, etc.. This is really inspiring! I’m not sure if I missed it, but did you say what color that green acrylic paint is? Is it just a mixture of the teal and Naples yellow hue? It’s very nice, sort of like a sap green. Also do you only use the 9B Lyra graphite crayon or do you incorporate other hardnesses? That particular graphite crayon is the only material you’re using here which I don’t already have. I have some other less chunky woodless graphite sticks but I like those chunkier crayons.
@klwebuga4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your great comment and questions! The green acrylic is a mix of that Golden Teal and some really low-quality “yellow” that came with my kids’ school art supply pack. I’ve just bought some golden fluid acrylic in hansa yellow to replace it. I use the 9B Lyra but also neocolor 2 crayons and sometimes a Stabilo all pencil - that last one is less chunky but it makes some great marks, especially when you add a bit of water. You can see it in action in my video “why did I not know about mapcrunching until now” - lots of people ordered the Stabilo all from my link after seeing that video! :-) Always fun to find a new tool for expression.
@Anonymoi4 ай бұрын
@@klwebuga Thanks for the info! That’s funny about the yellow paint. I have taken over the small tubes of “Chinese White” which come in my kids’ watercolor sets, and sometimes use it with my artist quality watercolor because I like how weak it is. I’ve been looking at some of your other videos and really like your particular approach and style. Sometimes it seems like everyone’s mixed media art kind of looks the same, but you have a unique style despite using the familiar materials.

A lot of artists hide what their process, their materials, etc. I think it‘s their right, but also it shows how insecure they are on what they do, that actually what they do is something that can be easily reproduced, copied, etc. bc it‘s mostly illustration. Making money with illustration can be challenging, so I guess they fear others finding out and making something nice as they do, for me it’s kinda …bad being that way, but who knows what experiences they’ve had…Also, I find that some of the most celebrated ones, actually copied very much the style of older illustrators that were very celebrated around 20 years ago and where pioneers into this mix media sketchbooks. I really like Sandi Hester, she is very lose in her work and she shares all her materials and talks openly about her process. Also, her art is far from illustration, but it falls under the fine art category, which I find a lot more inspiring and deeper than many of cute sketchbooks illustrators make, which are delightful to look at, but at the end of the day they are just nice and that’s it. I also follow Melanie Chadwick, I find her being very generous and open with her process and materials as well and there is something open, real and honest about Sandi’s and Melanie’s art, it attracts me a lot, bc it goes beyond illustration, it’s truly an art process with a define motto and idea behind them.
@klwebuga4 ай бұрын
I LOVE watching Sandi Hester’s entertaining and joyful (and informative!) videos, too! And of course, Melanie Chadwick has such a beautiful message to share. :-) I actually think that artists are very open with their processes and methods. This video was an opportunity to linger for a minute on one concept that I’ve found does so much more for me artistically than it would seem. Thank you for writing such a kind and thoughtful comment here!

I couldn't live without my pets. Currently 2 big dogs and 1 cat. But I've had as many as 4 dogs, 7 cats, 5 ducks, 7 chickens, 2 rabbits and a ferret - all at once. They bring the life to my house. They soothe me when I'm sad, they take care of me when I'm sick, they make me laugh and sometimes cry. I will never not have a pet. It isn't death that frightens me. It is aging and maybe having to live in a nursing home without a dog at my feet and a cat in my bed. Or, even worse, to have alzheimer's and forget how much I love the animals in my life. I didn't know there were people who would never have a pet because they think they are just something to take care of. They are so, so much more.
