Great channel and good to see another young couple not caught up in the 9 to 5 rat race. I am running hank on headsails as well. To make it easier to douse them I use a downhaul line running trough a block at the bottom of the head stay to the top of the head sail. That way you don't have to fight the sail on the foredeck and douse it from the cockpit. After lowering ...if you tighten up the sheet the sail is way easier to deal with and it avoids a lot of acrobatics and injuries. Copied that idea from old tall ships which always run downhauls on head sails. Cheers from Panama
@1425race
@1425race Жыл бұрын
Another tip is to lower the sail from the luff not the leech like you do on the main. Handing from the leech puts pressure on the hanks along with the wind making it harder to control. Securing the sail on the foredeck is easy too if you have a horn cleat near the forestay, just loop the halyard over the head of the sail and down around the cleat and tighten the halyard and the sheet.
@Thenewkidsonthedock
@Thenewkidsonthedock Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that tip Wolff, all our lines go to the mast not the cockpit so I’m up there anyway! Would love to give this a go and see how it helps. Cheers, Josh

Good point! Although that would mean right up on the bow which I’m not too stoked about. Love the halyard idea. Will give it a try in the right conditions. Cheers!

Great sail to Fitzroy, she loves that 15 knots downwind, now your target is 8 knots upwind ha ha! What was that Tuna like to eat raw or cooked?
@Thenewkidsonthedock
@Thenewkidsonthedock Жыл бұрын
Cheers mate! Great sailing conditions. On flat water we might get close! Innerbloom is a fin keel and loves wind beam or anything forward of the beam. That tuna was actually great! Could have bled a bit more but still delicious. Cheers, Josh

Let me get this straight. The trees trap the birds and then eat them? You can say, absorb their nutrients all you want. They eat the birds. As for the long dress on the beach, I lack enough descriptive words to do it justice. Inspiring comes to mind. Congrats on the yellow fin Josh. Beautiful fish.

Bleeding the fish is based on preference. I usually don’t bleed mine unless I plan to eat it raw. Or unless it’s a large fish. And that’s just for taste. Otherwise I love skipjack tuna tacos with the darker meat flavor. I’ll sometimes do “blood meat” tacos or 50/50. Delicious!

Can we get more footage of Josh? We like his boat skills and doing stuff on the boat. Not to intrested in swimsuit stuff.. big fan of SLV and that's how they do it
@Thenewkidsonthedock
@Thenewkidsonthedock Жыл бұрын
hello, lovely to see you here! have you watched any of our other videos before? if you're a first time viewer, I definitely recommend checking out our previous videos...they're about 60% of Josh doing boat stuff and the rest lifestyle and adventures 😝 The feedback we've had recently from our 92% male viewers is a little less of Josh and more of me, which is challenging because I prefer being behind the camera filming Josh doing the boat stuff. But to please all, we need an equal amount of boat stuff and unfortunately, me 😂 But we will definitely take your feedback on board! We were on a beautiful island at sunset...so there was no way I wasn't going to have my model moment hahaha. Thanks for the comment, we appreciate it and I hope you enjoy the boat work footage we have coming up! - Phoebe

When you troll you should loosen the drag on reel.

Cheers ive figured out that much Dale, but unfortunately the rod was doomed haha. Maybe a looser drag would have saved it this time, at least I know now and can start looking for a new overhead.

Next time you're on the mainland head to Supercheap and get some "SCA Silicone Spray - 400G", for your main track cars, give them a nice lube up, it'll make raising and lowering that sail much easier 👍 While your at it pick up a can of "Start Ya Bastard" to threaten your engine with if it's playn silly buggers with you 😉

Copy Dave! It has been added to the shopping list, start you bastard into the air intake right? We are very lucky our Yanma is pretty fresh still but always a good trick to have up your sleeve! Cheers mate, Josh

@@Thenewkidsonthedock yeah you got it, when your in remote area's you are really on your own, if things go wrong you have to improvise, so it's good to have things that will help, tools, spare parts for the engine and sails, spare rope etc. As you get to know the boat, you'll know what wears quickest and those are the things you carry several spares for. You guys are doing awesome, I just want to see you keep succeeding 👍

You are a beauty beyond the scale from 1 to 10, you’re hair has to be a burden😢,in the tropics. There’s no way your identity is wrapped up in your hair. Donate that to some good cause and free her self just one man’s opinion.😍

hey Dennis! I'm so grateful you're considering me in this way, the hair can definitely be a little annoying when it's a bit hot. But for the most part it's not a burden whatsoever - and it protects my back, arms and chest from the sun! 😂 if you had a luscious head of hair like that, would YOU cut it all off? hahahah, cheers for the comment mate! Good point Ernie, being the first time we have done all this stuff It can be pretty nerve racking and I guess I fall into a stress response which isn’t great. Although falling overboard 70 mile off shore and seeing your boat with full sails heading away from you would be bad news. Practice makes perfect and we are getting better. Cheers mate, Josh
