Hm, what if instead of having to let go of the handlebars to reach the crank, the handle had a second axis of rotation, somwhat aligned with the forward axis, and you could pump it side to side like a sideways handcar? Or perhaps even put the chest-support and handlebars on a seesaw and just pump it up and down? . I have the impression the side-to-side pumping might work better for going uphill than the chest-handlebars seesaw though.
