Hi. I've been wanting to get back o wild camping for years as i did a bit in my teens around the beacons. 54 now and wanted to try again. Started researching and picked up on some vids of LLyn y fan fach and yours was one that inspired me to try it. Stayed over last night. Wasn't cold and didnt rain but boy was it windy. thought my tent would blow away but it didn't. Got worse over night and this morning 06:30 I had to bug out quickly and couldnt pack everything as I wanted to. Anyhoo thanks for sharing and giving me the motivation to buy some kit and give it go. I'm from Cardiff, if your up the beacons and want some company let me know. I'm sure my wife wont miss me :)

Great vid mate. Just subbed. You should try wild camping Gran Canaria in winter. I do South of France in summer too. Rab Ridge Raider Bivi. My whole pack is under 3kilos now. Flights are so cheap now that if you can be flexible on dates (and carry your own accomodation) you can get a 4 day winter sunshine break for around 50 quid. I never get tired of stepping off that plane into instant summer. It can be freezing and miserable here but summer is only 4 1/2 hours and 50 quid away ! Thanks for sharing this quality video. Happy travels everyone. John

That amazing weather sadly quickly went to shit in Wales and it's been mostly gales and rain ever since. In fact I have to do a couple of little welding jobs on my van for the MOT and I just can't get out to work on the old bus because the weather is so bad...frustrating! Actually, there is a camping ban at Llyn y Fan Fach. And you're technically not allowed to wild camp in either England or Wales (but it's tolerated). Scotland is a different matter with the right to roam.
@ExplorerBuddies5 жыл бұрын
I think the ban was put in place because of the state the mountain shelter was being left in. The park range came up in the morning and could clearly see my tent but could also see that I was being discreet and did not bother me as I wasn’t camped in clear view next to the lake. 😉
@ExplorerBuddies5 жыл бұрын
Also you can wild camp in Dartmoor 😀
@alistaircorbett5735 жыл бұрын
@@ExplorerBuddies That's good (about Dartmoor). I wild camp myself and am always respectful, but it's a shame that so many spoil that for the rest of us. Even Scotland has camping ban areas these days, most noticeably Loch Lomond (again, because of the mess left by ignorants). Great video, once again.
@alistaircorbett5735 жыл бұрын
@5i1ver8ack Hello. There were "no camping" signs once upon a time. whether or not they are still there I don't know, but it was sign-posted in several places along the walk up to the lake. Even though the Brecon Beacons is largely owned by the National Trust, I think this area may be privately owned land with public access. I'm not sure of that, so someone may be able to correct me.

Am thinking of buying a snugpack softie elite 3 bag. Do you know of it Scott? Thanks.

It's an easy mistake to make being only one letter difference (in welsh it is 5 letters so less easy). I have always wondered if anyone has actually gone to the wrong range by mistake - for us it's just a typo but for tourists it could mean the wrong map, different ambience and weather, and also an extra hour of travelling lol.

I would kindly like to remind you, as a local resident of this area, it is NOT acceptable to camp here. "Oops", how dare you. You could be prosecuted for camping here and as a resident who has lived here since I was born Im really quite sick of campers coming up here. There are signs for a reason. Im sure you arent a bad bloke but so many people come up here and leave their trash, their bottles and their dog shit all over the place. Please DO NOT CAMP HERE.
@ExplorerBuddies5 жыл бұрын
And yet we get invited to visit the area by the local tourist board, who understand that whilst there are irresponsible people, there are also a lot of decent people who help to support the local industries. You can’t tar all with one brush. Often the rubbish left behind is not by outsiders but by local youths who don’t have the wisdom to have respect for their own homes.
@cherryloid10625 жыл бұрын
@@ExplorerBuddies As I said im sure you arent a bad bloke and I can see you appreciate the beauty of the area you visited, but something really needs to be done by the tourist board to ensure the people who do visit are aware of how to keep the place as a natural beauty. I personally think its all kinda of people, locals, tourists, all kinda of people sadly neglect the area. Whilst you may have been invited (apologies if I came across harsh), I really would like you to not encourage people to camp here. Visit, walk, hike, sure!
