In the swarm of unreleased production content from almost all of Valve's games, a folder of all released and unreleased Team Fortress 2 maps seemed to slip through the cracks. Over 200 different levels, including everything ever released through patches, combine through it took 12 hours.
Today I present 20 playable, unreleased maps for Team Fortress 2, (and this doesn't include the 40 unreleased MvM maps we will discuss another time.) I'm serious, this shit is insane.

I guess we'll see Valve's real opinion based on if they will allow community servers to run these maps in rotation. Usually they are pretty cool, but unreleased stolen content is where they draw the line usually. Not even remotely saying Tyler stole it before the obligatory replies, I know the history and Tyler gave the History, and Valve normally saves their anger for the people that actually stole it. People doing these things makes lives more annoying for everybody, but I still can't help myself loving it.
@bullshitdepartment
@bullshitdepartment Жыл бұрын
nah these leaks hurt nobody. Usually companies would be jumping with joy that their development history is such a point of interest in the community. Probly just some old dudes at Valve that got pissed at this because of the security breach moreso than the contents of the leak.
@teetree6661
@teetree6661 Жыл бұрын
Valve has a tendency to not bother trying to swat any leaks (aside from the leakers themselves, like with the HL2 leak) once they're out in the universe, as it's really pointless. It's equally completely pointless and near impossible for them to try and moderate what maps community servers use. Additionally this stuff is old as sin; out of all the info leaked id be willing to bet TF2's is one of Valve's absolute least possible concerns (Day of Defeat probs takes that title) since it's mostly cutting room floor stuff nobody has thought about in years for a game they haven't worked on in years.

The 2nd or 3rd biggest thing might be the creation of community-made TF2 tutorials and training maps using VScript. If Valve won't do it, they give us the tool to do it - that tool is VScript. Maybe too optimistic, but something should be done about the tutorial maps and the lack of good ones for all classes and game mechanics.

The unreleased maps all look super interesting and well developed. However, I feel like the reason they were all cut falls into one of three categories 1, The map is too open/big: Most the unreleased maps shown could easily fall victim to an issue similar to the bot crisis, where snipers and engineers could freely stack on or around control points to lock them down without remorse. Pyro and Scout wouldn't be able to get close to targets, Heavy would be a sitting duck, Spy would be unable to hide anywhere, sentries could safely sit outside Demo's range, etc. 2, The map is confusing: Several of the maps shown are very complicated, with the best examples being Pinecrest and Pointbreaker, one of which is a *tutorial* map intended for *new* players. In Pinecrest, if the payload is intended to go all around a large map *and* interact with the other team. Because of that, the two carts have to somewhat frequently interact for enemy teams to fight, or your team has to pick a fight with the enemy while ignoring your own cart. This is why Pinecrest also falls into the next category 3, The gamemode is unfocused: Like Pinecrest, the 6 capture point DeGroot Keep is a gamemode that splits team focus between trying to win and trying to keep the enemy team from winning. 2-4 points are avaliable at a time, and your team has to either be defending your 2 points or capturing the enemy's 2 points. In gamemodes like CTF and 5 Capture Point the formula works well, defend your point while capturing theirs, but the main difference is that there's only two objectives to focus on, attacking and defending 2 points respectively, meaning that even in a disorganized casual server team you may end up with something closer to a 50/50 split of who's doing what. What I'm trying to get at is, when you introduce needing to either attack or defend 4 different objectives in a 12 vs 12 gamemode, you end up with everyone running in seperate directions to do their own thing more often, since with an evenly distributed *max player* team, you'd only be able to have 3 people defending or attacking each point if you want to capture the enemy team's point while keeping them from cspturing yours. While a gamemode like that *could* work in a comp setting, it wouldn't work in the (likely) originally intended casual setting due to organization being a requirement

Also I'd love some game modes (like the vip one) to be readded as holiday event modes. Especially for the tf2 anniversary. Imagine going through classic maps remade in tf2 during the anniversary and opening crates/cases based around classic team fortress, the aliens concept, the realistic war concept and the first release concept of tf2. -- Some examples would be: -- - cosmetics based on the classic team fortress mercs for the tf2 guys (and whatever pyro is), - a sweater for engineer with a stitched imagine of the first appearance of the engineer on it, - the first appearance tf2 soldier jacket (with classic and current styles that swap the red/ blue with the brown). - More realistic war cosmetics (like the proof of purchase) - tf2 alien concept body armour for heavy - tf2 alien human jacket for sniper. - and/or a new type of pyrovision goggles-like headwear that swaps the tf2 assets and sounds for some objects to re replaced with the team fortress classic versions (if avaliable).

Is there a server hosting these unreleased maps to play with players on (the completed ones)?
@Jaeeden

Y'know what would be funny? If Valve leaked the maps on purpose so that players would complete it for them. The rest of the leak was just the intern they had uploading the maps accidentally uploading everything else.

I've been seeing a bunch of people say that this leak means that TF2 is over and that Valve is officially done with the game. I just want everyone to know that this isn't true, and to make sure you call anyone saying it stupid. Very rarely do any of them actually elaborate on why it would mean TF2 is "done" but the few times they have, it basically boils down to "The content in the leak ends in 2015, so there's no new stuff in it, ergo, it means Valve isn't making anything." This is incredibly dumb because as anyone who actually knows this game, you'd recognize that we got major updates AFTER 2015, which just means the leak's content ends at 2015, not that Valve hasn't/isn't working on anything for the game after that. That's not to say that there's a major update right around the corner, but it does mean that Valve hasn't given up entirely on it and those saying they have because of this either aren't thinking or are being malicious, trying to make people think the game is over so people stop playing it. Keep up the good work, Tyler. Keep playing the game, fans. You never know when that next update will drop.

@@exploertm8738 It's not copium, it's a factual statement. Nothing in this leak should lead anyone to believe that Valve is finished with the game.
