DBZ is an incredibly cool-looking map, and I am surprised it works for a 100 player lobby! That being said, I think there is 1 thing that should be done for a map made for that large of a lobby: Decrease the speed the cart moves at per player pushing it, but increase the push cap significantly. Maybe its speed could cap at 10 players, and move a bit faster than carts on maps made for smaller lobbies?

A bit disappointed only one person went with the Half Life theme, and *no one* went with a full on Black Mesa theme. There was so much potential there, fighting all the way to first get the anomalous material into the carrier and then over to the final checkpoint to start the resonance cascade. The regular TF2-like aesthetic slowly gaining more and more Black Mesa realism step by step.

Like imagine a payload race, where both teams fight to cap a neutral flag for their team to open up the way for their payload. Or a dominion match where the last point of both teams is protected like in Degroot keep, and you have to bring a flag to the enemy side to give a chance to push last. We’re not in 2010 anymore. If you want TF2 to keep up with other FPS’s, the maps *must* be modernised. Seeing maps with that same look is just incredibly boring now.

@@Benjy52 “We’re not in 2010 anymore, so abandon the art style.” Notice how I explicitly mentioned that the one version reminded me of Powerhouse, a map that’s aesthetics have not really been replicated. Maps can evolve visually without abandoning this game’s general aesthetic, just look at Phoenix, Emerge, or Camber. Your point makes no sense.

I'm not really in love with how we're talking about the art here. It feels pretty harsh on anyone who didn't place first or second, and it's not like a vote is the best way to parse artistic inspiration/beauty, especially when the form needs to fit the function.

Puxorb's map design fits a lot better with the game lore, since the entire series of events in TF2 was kicked off when Redmond and Blutarch Mann inherited a ton of empty wasteland from their father (who died of every illness known to man when travelling to see aforementioned land that the two idiot sons bought) and started fighting over it. In the official lore, it's just because the two of them hate each other and are trying to take all of the land for themselves. The original business plan for the empty desert was gravel mining for weapons manufacturing(?)
@cloudynguyen6527
@cloudynguyen6527 Ай бұрын
Gravel and coal mining are their main business. Weapon manufacturing comes from Mannco and I don't think Mannco manufactures their weapons in middle of nowhere
@spamuel98
@spamuel98 26 күн бұрын
@@cloudynguyen6527 The CEO of Mann Co is Saxton Hale, so it's a fair bet to assume the weapons manufacturing takes place in Australia. Or maybe the entirety of the Mann estate is actually in Australia, and they were able to get the land so cheaply because it was the Australian outback where people can't live in any meaningful numbers due to the lack of water, and the mercenaries travel there from their home countries for work.

Yoooo, one of PigPig's maps was added? Never knew they experimented with more cool logic! They also made an MvM map called Yiresa - it takes the "multiple possible bomb paths" to the next level with a dedicated Red and Blu part, and both having their own gate. The tank paths also have doors that open as temporary shortcuts - it's a very neat map!

amazing work! I'm looking forward to more communally made maps in the future, there's so many gamemodes after all! attack/defend, 5cp, king of the hill... arena? hell, maybe even territorial control might be worth revisiting in this way. the gamemodes with symmetrical maps would require half the effort (just develop half and mirror it) and it would be just on someone to art pass the 2 sides, there's so much potential here.
