In the big hall with the fish tank (the wedding venue), the guard is saying “this place used to have lots of, lots of different guests.” My guess is that this guard started his work here way back, when the hotel was still very popular and had a lot of guests. He seems to be very proud of the hotel back in the day, that’s why he’s willing to show you around the place. And he definitely misses the old days.

@Mo Chow I bet it was a welcome break from the monotony of babysitting an abandoned hotel that is rotting away. I also wonder how much money it would realistically have taken to keep atleast the shell of the hotel intact over the 15-20 years it was abandoned. If they had patched holes in the roof and replaced broken glass, i bet that hotel would have been in a lot better shape today, than it was. It does not take a big hole in the roof for water to get in, and make it worse and worse. If they have money for a 24/7 guard service, i would, imagine $5000 a year to keep the place patched up would be possible.
@JohnDoe-bd5sz
@JohnDoe-bd5sz 4 жыл бұрын
@Mo Chow If kids dont want to spend money, they could sell it or even give it away, which would still be cheaper than keeping it until it has rottet away and worthless and even having to pay for the guard. It seems to me that what these owners have done is the least profitable thing they could have done. I dont know if there is such a thing as property tax, but if there is, they are also paying for the land, even though they have zero income from the land.

That was amazing. The language barrier created an atmosphere of suspense but also it was cool to see the tension being overcome over what was evidently a underlying humane shared sense of how freakin COOL it is to explore time capsules that are entire resorts. Wonder if you could have gotten more from the tour if you had an interpreter with you, but that would have undercut some of the drama and humanity--the risk taking.

You guys are probably the most interesting thing he's seen at work for a long time. I am always amazed at how things in the east seem to be left fully furnished - like this, the Royal Hotel on Hachijio, the theme parks....... In the west, the place would for sure have been cleared of the furniture and furnishings, sold off to recoup some of the losses. It's nice to see things left as they were. Those chandeliers look expensive. I agree with the people saying that the room he showed you was a wedding venue - dancefloor, grand centrepiece fishtank, stage. The speakers are not 'Ass' but A.S.S. (Acoustic Sound Systems) built by master speaker cabinet maker Tony Rossell in the UK who built for many of the big boys in the P.A. business but also sold under his own A.S.S. brand name. The are superbly constructed, as are all of Tony's cabinets) and use premium drivers. One of his users was the late John Entwistle, bassist of the Who, who owned 2 custom A.S.S. bass systems, one in the US and the other in the UK. Pity you couldn't have got your hands on them!

WOW!!! It was incredibly gracious of that guard to let you tour the property. I love your videos and appreciate you taking us on your adventures. Please don't take this the wrong way when I ask you to not disrespect someone's generosity by "sneaking back " to the other building, etc. He could get terminated for allowing you access in the first place. Be grateful you have the privilege to get to travel and explore. Many blessings and safe travels to you and again.....thank you.

The gaurd was so nice, he really just enjoyed showing you around. From what I understood, he remembers when the place was full of guests, maybe he started working in the resort then. From the little Mandarin I understand, he asked you if your were studying in Shanghai. He was really just a kind man.

If you curious what the guard is saying: 3:26 "Don't smoke inside. Young people shouldn't smoke these days." 12:16 The Guard asked, "Are you two studying in the same school in Shanghai?" Probably mistaken you two as university students went to Shanghai. 12:20 "Don't touch anything" (I saw another comment saying he said, "There was many people here", but I don't think he said that. It's a bit indistinguishable.) 14:46 He asked, "Do you want to see the decayed rooms?" and followed up with "No more other rooms." Probably means this is the only room not sealed up/presentable. 15:31 He didn't wave you off, but instead he said "You can help yourself with the front building" and he was guesting toward that other building. 15:51 "Go down here" 16:07 He probably wondering why you are not going by your own to the other place, so he tried to explain, "There is another very big building, do you want to go?" 16:40 "Do you want to go in there?" 16:49 "(watch out!) this way, this way" I think he is trying to show where the steps were under the vegetation. (17:00) You can hear a water spraying truck in a background. They spray water on the road trying to reduce dust from car/truck tires. The music is used to warn pedestrians not get wet. 17:37 "Go up here" 17:41 "Do come out later, follow the original path!" He is under the impression you understood what he said at 16:07. 23:24 "Are you done yet?" "Are you ready to go back?" 23:33 "Almost (time to go)" Yeah he wants you to leave, probably since its getting dark. 23:38 "You haven't been there yet?" "Ok, go take check out there." 24:24 "Go down there" "Go down here, less stuff to see (up) there. Almost* " *(I think he meant its almost time so hurry up) (He then called the dog to follow) 25:57 "What's in there? Oh that thing" (he probably just read the text) (27:00 A comment here: He probably wants to go cook dinner/go back to his post at the gate, so trying to show you last bit of interesting parts and rush you out the door.) 28:04 "Sure" (A common response to Thank you in Chinese)

As Carly Simon once crooned, "Nobody does it better..." ! You guys rock. As a world traveler myself, if people have a need to, are willing to, have the patience and desire, language doesn't have to be a barrier. Of course having something of a working knowledge of other languages helps. I'm glad you guys are still at it these many years. I've watched you improve tremendously and anxiously await your installments. That security guard did his job, but showed his heart and understanding of your mission! The dog w!s the guard's guardian and companion more than an attack guard dog. He sensed you guys were not dangerous. This one was from your precovid archives! Smart! Thanks!

That "ice cream" truck playing small world at ~17:20 is likely a street cleaner car, and more specifically, one that sprays water on streets to keep dust down. Playing music just so that pedestrians don't inadvertently get hosed down.

shoutout to this awesome guard, that's so cool. he knows youre not here to vandalise, and that's really the only thing guards should be watching out for; if someone just wants to take photos, document, what's the harm? this guy rules and also his dog was the BEST. what a sweet dog. this is what urbexing SHOULD be - respectful admiration and documentation of decaying environments, no breaking, no vandalism, no needless restriction of beautiful places.
