It must of been an amazing house. I wonder if it used for schooling or something with the marked rooms in the basement.

The basement was used for Cub Scouts. Den 1 is not a den as a living room, but rather Cub Scout groups are called "Dens", and this was the home of Den #1. "Do Your Best" is the Cub Scout motto, or at least it was back in the old days. Cool house, thank you for documenting it before it is gone.

I think many people still appreciate them, but there are fewer wealthy people who can afford to keep them up, pay taxes, heat them, etc...And once a neighborhood is in decline, most people can't take the financial hit of putting a bunch of money into a place where the neighborhood values are dropping. No question it's a horrible situation though. This is a BEAUTIFUL house.

This place here reminds me of a place I shared with a friend pf mine in ME. That one was circa 1900 and was beautifully maintained. Unfortunately the idiots who run the city wanted to demolish it in favor of a shooting range. I haven’t seen architecture like we had up there in FL; one of the things I miss about New England. They consider 1920s era homes to be historic here.

The windows look original to me, but the bathtub looks not original, probably more 1950s. The wallpaper is from the 1950s. The brightly painted purple room would have been done in probably the early 1970s. The alarm system was from the 1970s or early 1980s. The electrical system doesn't look like it was ever updated after the 1950s. You can still see the old push button light switches and old electrical outlets. That all dates to the 1950s or before. The writing on the wall in the basement, looks legit. I'm sure it was written in the mid-1960s. So kids were living there in the 1960s. The room with the drop down ceiling and wood paneling was obviously an office, probably done in the 1960s. My guess is that the house has been abandoned since the early 1980s. Great explore. 😎👍☮️

The architecture feels like it is an Akron/Barberton area. Though, most of the old houses in Ohio are similarly set up. That wood stain brings nostalgia. I grew up in an old house and it feels like they all had that exact same wood stain.

Oh wow man. Going through the floor scared me…I can’t imagine what it was like for you. It’s a real shame. It would probably take $150,000 to renovate that house. It would be an amazing, unsellable house. My mom lived in Euclid, close to the Cleveland line for 60 years. The new house my parents bought in 1957 was in need of updating a few years ago, but how can you put at least $50-75,000 in a house that, when she died, was sold for $65,000? I remember from when I was a kid, the big, grand houses like this one in East Cleveland. How could the original owners of those houses or original tenants in the apartment buildings ever imagine that those wonderful homes would now be disintegrating?

And here I was thinking it could *almost* be salvageable, but you just had to show us that basement didn't you lol On another note, the "Den 1" and "Do Your Best" refer to Cub Scouts, the part of Boy Scouts for those under 11. The den is a smaller group of boys within the pack (the whole group) that meets to do scouting things. "Do your best" is just the slogan. It looks like sometime in the past a group of boys met weekly/monthly in that basement, planning hikes and camping adventures, learning life skills, and just having fun. I love when there are some specifics about the history of the property, especially when I can personally kinda relate to them :)
@MaxZomboni

Oh good catch on the Cub Scouts. I didn't even think about that. Maybe the entire house was being used for a Boy Scout meeting building. The one room with the drop down ceiling could have been a business office for them. Or it could have been a community building with other organizations housed there as well. That would explain why some parts looked updated more than other parts. I kind of got the feeling it was used for something after it was a private residence.
