Today I finally explored the beautiful ancient Mayan city Tikal in Guatemala! I start the day in Flores, a city about an hour away, where I catch a shuttle out to Tikal. It was such a magical day walking around there and soaking up all the mystery and beauty. This is definitely a lengthier vlog and I hope you all enjoy it! Thanks for sticking by my side Pikeys! It means more to me than you know. Until next time.

The Mayans were brilliant. They built a city in the middle of the forest. The forest was both a natural defence and a supermarket to them - It gave them sustenance. Thanks for sharing this.

Why do they call them 'ruins'? The Mayans are still with us today. It's like calling the Lincoln Memorial an American ruin. Americans are still here.
@JordanPike
@JordanPike 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, interesting perspective. I guess it's about the physical state of the compound? It's in ruins compared to when they were first made and inhabited. The Lincoln Memorial is still in pristine shape. What do you think?

@@JordanPike There is an old strip shopping center not too far from where I live that has been abandoned for some time. A casualty of the Amazon online shopping era. It has weeds growing in it and is not in the same physical state it was when it was first built and occupied in the 1970s. Would this be referred to as an American 'ruin' or an abandoned shopping center? Interestingly I had no idea the Mayans were still with us today, many living in California and Florida, until I did some further research. I enjoyed your video.

@@exoressdelivers70 I actually work with a Mayan that is from this exact area and speaks the dialect. It's pretty fascinating to hear. This is why you should invest on a local guide, my dear tourists... otherwise you end saying dumb things about stuff you don't understand. Just a few examples: a) The ancient Maya did not lived in those diminutive stone rooms, because that wouldnt make sense in the middle of the hot jungle. Residential complexes had their stone buildings but those were always complementend by wooden structures that were way fresh and with plenty of space. b) the maya did not believed in heaven and hell, so no... no 9 levels of hell, but 9 levels of the spiritual upper and under world wich is completely different. So, PLEASE don't be cheap and spend the extra USD asked by a guide, because travelling so far just for you to not understand what you are looking at sucks big time.
@JordanPike
@JordanPike 5 жыл бұрын
a) doesn't seem that insane since it's quite cool in the shaded stone, b) okie, c) you seem a little too worked up over it. I made it pretty clear that I didn't really know what I was talking about. This is more for entertainment than education. Regardless, PLEASE simmer down. d) DM me some shirtless selfies OHYEAH
