I had a similar thing happen with the movie The Grudge. That movie gave TONS of nightmares when I was a kid, but for some reason when I was like 13 I had a dream where Kayako crawled up my staircase like the scene in the movie but instead of doing something spooky she just casually strolled into my room, sat down, and we started playing Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi 3. In the dream she was a Janemba main and she beat me every match. I have no idea why I had this dream, and I never had a dream about that movie again.

I remember (somewhere) seeing gameplay of teachers and principals scenario, if i remember correctly principal is the oni with mustache, his scenario was several years before main game and teacher is "evil mastermind behind all this" and she wasn't even dead! If I remember correctly that's what one of the Spinoff movies did where it was the Teacher doing it all. Something about them being some sort of flower ghost that didn't want people getting close to her mountain near the school so she uses her flowers to brainwash people while also creating the Oni by having sex with someone.

The Ao Oni amino has some info on Ao Oni X. Its actually pretty cool with it having you have a chance of saving Hiroshi's friends, its much more open too! If you ever saw Ao Oni 3 it seems like ao oni x is a mix between 3 and something unique. Its much more manga friendly with a couple of characters that are from the manga alone. Theres more locations too. Thats all i can say since thats all i recall from all those years ago

That’s probably cuz a lot of RPG horror games or RPG story games were played by popular lets players but they never bothered to continue with the series or didn’t know to do so. Either they moved on to more traditional 3D horror or the next game was different from the OG. So stuff like To the Moon’s sequel, Corpse Party’s sequel, or Crooked Man’s sequel were untouched. Only channels dedicated to playing a diverse range of horror, indie games, etc. played the sequels, or any subsequent horror RPG games like Zeno, End Roll, or Omori. And it’s not helped by the fact the ppl who used to translate these games (Memories of Fear? and VGperson) don’t really translate games anymore.

Wait 'til what I got to say to you. There was a fan game called Heta Oni, which was a fan collaboration of Hetalia and Ao Oni. It changed the game into a turn based fighter like Earthbound and you got to follow all the main characters of Hetalia, however the main focus was Italy. It's still not finished, since the creator of this AU/game made it increasingly long. But it's pretty cool!

Okay so, after watching this video, I do want to say something. This actually could have been good. If this was made in RPG maker, even without changing the puzzles, it could have been at least competent. Hell, even better if everything was translated properly with some extra dialogue hinting at what to do with what. The graphics look pretty good, and if you want to keep the idea of different Oni skins, just change the function of the safes from coins to a "mysterious orb that changes the Oni's form" or something like that. I already have a small list of ideas in mind of what people could do without completely overhauling the game if this were to be competent.

One of the main problems of this game is the entirety of the level and puzzle designs. Sure, it could "be good" if you completely changed everything and made it something else that was better. I think the core of the game is bad. Not to mention the Oni itself is only prevalent through random encounters with the exception of like 1-2 scripted chases.

@@itsnoteasybeinggreen7076 exactly. I say that it could have been good because it does have things like upgraded graphics and the knowledge of past mistakes. But the terrible translation plus the horrible design of the puzzles just completely wrecks it. Ben himself said that the game could be just that the game itself was good, but the devs just needed ads for money. But if you just fix up the translations and controls in RPG maker without changing the puzzles themselves, all you're left with is something that can be "Competent" at best. Not good, but playable.

You know, when I read "sequel" I thought you meant "Ao Oni R". Granted, I don't think it's an official title, but from what I've seen, it does a lot to improve on the original game to the point it feels like a completely new version/sequel. I'd totally recommend covering it in another video if you're willing to cover fan-made content. Otherwise though, it's a shame that in terms of "official" sequels we got, this was the result.

It's fan made, yes! The whole thing is essentially a remake with new character designs and a new plotline. The individual characters can also all survive to the end. That is, if you make the correct choices! As well, there's multiple difficulty options added as a bonus.

If you're wondering, the traveller chapter basically consists of nothing, it ends with the guy escaping and it teases ao oni 3.

Well this was a revelation, years ago I watched a fun RPG maker game that seemed very much like an Ao Oni sequel that I rarely saw being played or discussed. Along of the years I ended forgetting the name and simply assumed that it was Ao Oni 2, so when you released your video I was excited to see that game again, but now I know that game I thought was Ao Oni two was something completely different, doing little bit of research I found the name of the old game, Nira Oni, it seems like it's a fan game. I don't remember much of the game, but maybe it’s worth it to see if a group of fans can make a Ao oni-like game better than the official sequel did
