I spend a lot of time on the Pictured Rocks lakeshore. Either working as a captain on Pictured Rocks Cruises, or just wandering around the shoreline. I was right, my favorite Lakeshore. It is our little piece of paradise in the midwest. I am glad you enjoyed your anniversary there. I love chapel Beach, we always pick that campsite. Nice job! As a native Michigander I've hiked that trail since 1975 several times. The road between GM and Munising was a two track back then. More people now but still a timeless beautiful region. Watch out for the black flies this must have been filmed in early to mid june before the big hatch.

You should see the Porcupine Mountains which is the other favorite hiking spot in the U.P. I got photos if you don't believe me and they are spectacular. I can tell you why the U.P. of Michigan is a secret because I lived there 2 years. The U.P. winters are ferocious with -30 days lasting for months on end with 60 mph winds and almost no day light. The summers are spectacular and the winters are horrendous. The U.P. is heaven and hell. I forgot to mention the snow totals: it is like 9 feet so get used to shoveling snow.

Great Northern US series. Your Pictured Rocks NL footage is awesome. You should also take a look at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in the lower peninsula; some great vistas and nice camping on the NL’s Manitou Islands.

Not sure when they went, but mid-June through July is black fly season. They migrate across the UP based on wind. So a wind out of the south takes them all north to this shore and a northern wind takes them to the southern shore. We used to drive across the UP based on wind forecast if going during black fly season. It's far worse than mosquitos haha. Mosquitos aren't really bad by the shore. Also snow can still be there in May/June and returns in September/October. So it's not much of a season in the border of summer for bugs.
