Southern Bklyn is littered with horseshoe crabs. I grew up a few blocks away from that beach, your seeing it clean, back in the 80's and early 90's plumb beach looked like a dystopian nightmare. We had a lot fun on that beach in those days

Great video dude, its awesome to see you in NYC. I'm from here and so many locals under appreciate how interesting our local wildlife is so it makes me so happy to see your enthusiasm and spreading the good word! I was out last full moon looking at the horseshoe crabs too, they are amazing! If you ever come back, you should look for tropical reef fish orphans. We get butterflyfish and pufferfish off of Coney Island! I am still looking for a live seahorse as well. I keep checking an ~allegedly~ promising site but have yet to find one.

I found a live sea horse once off the coast of North Carolina. It was hanging onto a clump of floating plant material the size of a grape fruit. I wished it the best of luck at the time but assumed the worst would happen.

never a dull moment when you upload. btw i was wondering if you have any tips for raising bullfrog tadpoles. i currently have a 6 gallon tank with an internal filter, some floaters and a bit of cork bark.

Sounds good they don’t need anything to specific cork bark works great as they start to leave the water.

I grew up around the city. A lot of people don't realize how much wildlife lives within NYC city limits. There are also wild turkeys in the Bronx.

In all the documentaries that have Horse Shoe Crabs, not one showed them encrusted with barnacles as you have. I wonder what else they don't show us? Thanks for an informative and visually appealing video.

To be fair I don't know if it's everywhere, I have seen several dead horseshoes in the NE US and I don't remember them being encrusted, at least not nearly this bad

horseshoe crabs are one of my dream animals honestly like if i had say a giant water tight room underneath my house with no other purpose in life 100% i would be making it into a horseshoe crab tank its a shame theres no dwarf form that stays aquarium sized because theyre such cool creatures
@SoopaMangoPoo
@SoopaMangoPoo Жыл бұрын
Have you heard of triops? They come in kits like seamonkies but they look more like horseshoe crabs. They are pretty small too so you don’t need a big aquarium for them
@gayforbrae5693
@gayforbrae5693 Жыл бұрын
yea triops are cool but like i dont have a freshwater tank its not like i can just throw them in my current saltwater tank unlike i could theoretically do with a horseshoe crab i have no room left in my house for more tanks or animals lol

@Chemical1Objectivity

Also- as much as you want to pull barnacles off the crabs, doing so is not recommended if you are not trained with the right equipment and sanitized environment. Barnacles don’t just attach to the surface, they develop deep bonds. It would be not only very painful for the animal, but would risk infection.

He actually didn’t build it. A lot of houses in his area have them, they’re rainwater cisterns. Just NW of downtown Houston is a 87,500 sq ft cistern, built in 1926 to supplement drinking water for the city. It’s the size of 1.5 football fields and held 15 million gallons of water when functioning at capacity. The roof is held up by 221- 25-foot tall, slender concrete columns and the space has a 17-second echo! Decommissioned about 20 years ago, it’s now a space for events and art exhibits. I attended a light/music installation that was totally trippy.

Yeah, unless he doesn't eat meat or eggs or is exclusively getting them from actual open-range animals, this is exactly what happens behind closed doors for the food he eats. It's shocking to see it in person, but easy to ignore when you don't have to look. Not saying open-range stuff is okay btw

“I’m not vegan, but it was sad to see all of these animals packed in cages”. I’m glad to see people have the courage to empathize with animals. It shows a real potential to adapt a vegan lifestyle for compassion for the animals.
