Thank you for making Hypnagogia. I picked it up in a bundle earlier this year and went in knowing nothing. The game quickly became one of my all time favorites. You've managed to make a very memorable experience.

Oh man, Hypnagogia felt like the modern remake of Echo Night and made me want more like it- a game where you interact with so much, go on a wild journey through time and space, and you're never sure what you're going to do next but with this intuitive feeling that you can do anything and everything! I think you're one of my favorite modern developers!

Dead and dying malls are some of the creepiest places ever. Love watching vids of "retail archeology" explorations of them. Probably doesn't have the same impact if you've never worked in one, but I spent half the 90s in a rapidly-failing mall from the 70s, escaping only weeks before they drove the bulldozers through it.

@@Shizkeb My current home was built in the 1970s. It won't exist at all in a hundred years, much less a thousand. Shoddy "modern" construction doesn't last long in the grand scheme of things. Even if it did leave traces a millennium in the future, they'd be artifacts, not fossils. Those words are used for very different things.

It's fascinating to see the sort of sophistication creep that makes pixel art games look the way folks *remember* them rather than how they actually did happening to PSX era polygons. This game is way more gorgeous than the actual era it's evoking! Interesting to see that *ambiguity* is one of the things that modern artists dial in on about the aesthetic.

7:10 the walk into the dining hall is gorgeous and paced beautifully. The boxmap reflection showing the chandelier early. The fog limiting the view once you get closer to just the chandelier with the table fading in after. Then once you're in the room and the fog gives way to the full glory of the room you can see the ghost taking its time to leave.

I really like the idea that the creepy inhabitants of the school are just upset you're invading their personal space. They're not dangerous, they don't want to haunt or kill you, they want you out.

Hell yeah, I had a blast with this game! I kinda wish that there was a life-size Gogi plushie. Even for people who don't know about Hypnagogia, I reckon it'd be a high-ticket item. I feel like my strongest experience with this game was the "Ancient Update", which added that new Secret World within Mushroom World. Have you ever had a dream where you made a strong connection with someone, only to wake up and realized that they were never real to begin with? That's how I felt at the end of that world. I had to watch a Digitiser video before I went to bed, just to recentre how I felt. Also, speaking of "Interior Worlds", I am VERY ready for it. The idea of it hits especially well since I started listening to Windows96 (otherwise known as Gavriel) some time before I played Hypnagogia, and one of their albums "In The Worlde" is now inextricably connected to my memories of Hypnagogia. I'm definitely gonna dive into these Interior Worlds that one before this night is done.

the sound design is also very cool from what you've shown. very pleasant and textured, but everything is just a bit heightened, just slightly overcrunchy in a way that hits that note between appropriately vintage and worthy of moody dreamscapes

Just like you said, he released Interior Worlds a few days ago which strikes the same kind of vibe, in a more gritty and realistic way. It's more of a soft horror game since there is creepy stuff going on and the atmosphere is very much oppressing, but explorating its liminal spaces feels deliberate and moody, which I think you might enjoy!

I found out about this game through this video, couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks, finally bought it and played it about nonstop for about two days, and I'm now trying to convince my all my friends to buy it - because sodaraptor posted a while back that if it got 500 positive steam reviews they would start work on a sequel. At time of posting, we're only 25 away, which is SO CLOSE. So if anyone here liked it and hasn't done that, I entreat you to do so. I just GOTTA know what that dang rabbit is up to. And if you haven't played it, honestly the spookiest levels aren't even the strangest ones. This baby can pack so much surreality into it

The opening that Errant Signal describes for the Haunted World is basically just the first 20 minutes of Silent Hill 2. In fact, that whole level gives me Silent Hill vibes. The sound effects remind me of SH sounds. The elevator ride seems pulled straight from Silent Hill 3's mall level. etc.
