A short, spooky (but not that spooky!) Halloween video for this year. Let's go to the lines, shall we? Caller one, you're on.

Hey Chris, I don't think anyone has to dig too deeply to recognize that you've had a rough few years, so I just want to say...I hope you're doing okay, and to echo many others here in the comment section, to let you know you're appreciated. Be well my parasocial friend, be well.

I appreciate taking things a little slower this year. Especially given the stuff that is happening right now.. yea, I love games that take their limitations and turn them into strengths or at the very least try to play with them. Playing a radio host in a horror movie is a really fun concept and works SO well with limited resources. I very much adore the dev for that.

Killer Frequency's been sitting on my wishlist for a while but seeing it pop up here was what convinced me to finally grab it. Came here to watch the video after finishing the game in one go. Don't skip this one, y'all. It's good, it's tricky in places, and it got me to laugh out loud with one perfectly-timed joke. An excellent Halloween game.

Although please take things at your own pace, I hate when people are under pressure, especially if it impaires the quality of their work or worse their well-being.

I fucking loved this game. Exactly the kind of game I like to play, a kind of job-simulator with a focus on story. And the aesthetic was captured so well. Nothing hits as hard as the title song over the ending credits sequence.

I had pitched a game like this on a game ideas podcast a few years ago, so I've been following the development of this pretty closely. It was exciting to see the choices they made. My pitch involved supernatural occurrences rather than serial killers; finding arcane combinations of frequencies to play in different songs, playing records backwards -- the kinds of rabbitholes you could obsess over in a DJ booth while getting tenuous lack of confirmation as to any actual effectiveness. Like finding ways to enact local urban legends.

This makes me think of Pontypool. The setting mainly.
@ErrantSignal8 ай бұрын
Genuinely wonder if that was an influence, as there *is* a character named Ponty who makes a repeated appearance throughout the night. And it's not like the game is above campy horror references - the streets of the city are all named after famous horror directors, characters, and cities (Haddonfield Lane, Carpenter Road, Craven Street, Nancy Lane, etc)

It's cool to see a big channel covering this game. I need to tackle this gane again for a video. Some people mentioned and recommended pontypool to me when discussing and maming my video on it. Pontypool is a pretty unique film that has a similar feel.

Honestly this felt like a twist on the Adventure Game, which tends to be mostly dialog. To me this read as a twist on the Walkie Talkie in Firewatch, only instead of being the person in the middle of things who needs hints and help, you're the person people are calling. And that opened up the puzzles to feeling suspenseful because while you might be safe in a cozy radio studio the people who are calling you are NOT.

With a name like Chris there are probably tons of stories where you get to hear your own name spoken out loud by characters and you'd likely get desensitized to it after a while. With my name, the media exposure I get is basically limited to Gump. Playing this game would be extremely unsettling for me. Great vid.

I miss being able to just do stuff on Halloween. Dress up. Watch thematic movies and shows. Just having time off, really. Videos like this one help to keep things spoopy when you can't decorate or get a costume on.
@nicodoe61818 ай бұрын
the soundboard was a genius addition to the game, it really breaks up the exposition so im surprised you didnt mention it at all. i didnt finish the game but most of my time in the recording booth was spent blasting canned laughter or cricket sounds at characters fearing for their lives (also just fyi, its not called "all hallows eve", thats a christian thing they used to try to steal halloween. like its kind of iffy to joke about that name, even though halloween is obviously derived from it its still a touchy subject)
@juhanj8 ай бұрын
Etymologically, "all hallows eve" came first, then "Halloween". "All hallows eve" in the 16th century, and "halloween" is a contraction from 18th century (both christian references). So if you're avoiding Christianity (for some reason, not like there's any religious idea behind this or Christmas anymore), you shouldn't be using either. Instead, we should be calling it "Samhain" and celebrating it on November 1st. Really, you should be blaming the Romans in the first millennium for hijacking the tradition.
@nicodoe61818 ай бұрын
@@juhanj can you read also its not samhain lmao, its the night before samhain/november starts. u think samhain and halloween are the same thing yet ur trying to lecture ppl 😭😭😭

There is another game that I actually thought was made by the same people Same idea but you are a guard in a booth at a lab when the monster escapes and have to guide your friend out via the radio. That one is super short but has a lot of alternate endings. Struggling to find it even though I played it not to long ago though.
