As for the myth of “I’m too old” I started learning the piano at age 68 after never playing any musical instrument ever. Two years later, it is a daily and beloved activity. Of course, it takes a long time to learn but it is worth sticking with. I wish I were near to Alamo Music so that I could check out the instruments that you have. Although I doubt that I will “outgrow” my Yamaha p515 portable digital, I still can dream. Thanks for your great content.

Agree, fellow 68yo here. started piano 2 years ago. Although I've been a guitarist for 55years. Piano has however given me a new intuitive understanding of theory. Music theory I memorized as a guitarist , I now understand , such as Sus2, Sus4, and Augmented chords.

I agree with Thomas Brown, about being " too old" to start learning piano. I'm also 68 and started 2 years ago with piano. I'm now a solid intermediate player. My repertoire includes Game of Thrones main theme, Nuvole Bianche, Mission Impossible, Great Balls of Fire, and Interstellar. Working on themes from the gaming cinematics world like Heart of Courage, and Dragonborn. These are fairly difficult pieces yet doable, even for a beginner.

I know that you promote Kawai a lot but I have to acknowledge that the K200 rivals a lot of 48in. The scaling is incredible for a 45in.

I love the ‘aquarium on it.’ I cringe every time I go into a home and see picture frames or vases of flowers on them. They usually aren’t serious players. You might tell people about insuring the piano because normal homeowners insurance won’t cover it. We had to get a rider.

Every time I hear a high end piano comparison, the Bosendorfer will make me giggle with delight. Given my druthers, I know what I would choose…

So, this old man, a piano tuner (he didn't use the term, "technician", he said "tuner"), tuned our piano back in the 80s and said if a piano ever gets termites that the piano has to be thrown away, taken to the dump. This is because the termites would weaken the wood around the pegs holding the strings. Then, if somebody plays the piano, the vibrations would loosen and dislodge these pegs. With the enormous pressure from the tightly wound strings, these pegs would then shoot through the wooden front with as much force as a bullet fired from a gun and it could shoot you - the player - like a gun and kill you. He was every bit serious. Myth? (Or, maybe he had a side contract with a pest control company?) Either way, it scared me as a kid, and I always kept a watch around the piano (a very old, tall upright) for termite evidence!

Good point about buying second hand. It needs to be moved (expensive), it needs tuning (expensive) and it may even need new strings or other maintenance! That $200 piano could now cost closer to $2,000! Yes, you can get lucky. The finger one is another beauty. 😂

@@Mr.PhatsVarietyVibesShow I’ve seen heaps too. If I were to buy second hand, I’d bring someone with me who knows about pianos. You can get a good deal.

@@Mr.PhatsVarietyVibesShow it can actually be true if you live in a rather poor country. For example, here in Russia you can buy used Petrof upright for 300 bucks (like I did with my 1987's "Sonatina" model). Tuners charge 50-100 bucks. And local Soviet-time brands pianos (like Red October etc.) are often given away for free. So, living under dictat of Putin has some pros🤣

Digital pianos are newer and better. That doesn't appear to be the case.
