Before the pedestrian tunnel on the left before they installed the fence was ‘the moor’, an old large cinder area which we spent hours playing football. We used to pretend the large scrapyard shed was a grandstand and this was our Ayresome Park. After the tunnel on the left was the site of the Old Mill Lane School. Disputes between pupils were settled on the moor, the call ‘ fight on the moor after school’ ensured a crowd.

The boarded up pub was called "The Old Moor" with a turbaned Arab on the sign. Not far from oxbridge workies club and the old Stockton football club field.

Enjoyed the video and as a proud Stocktonian I'm glad that it didn't turn into a slagging of the town. Stockton is definitely on the up, they've spent millions which is controversial in some peoples eyes. I prefer to think positively in that you can see where the money has gone. As we know, town centre shopping is sadly dead and buried. Story Tellers is one of 13 music venues in the town and as a result Stockton Borough Councils aim of re-inventing the town into The Northeast's Entertainment venue of choice is gradually coming to fruition. Live music is my passion so to have so many gigs and festivals on my doorstep is fantastic. I don't think Stockton has a negative image in particular but it has changed over the years and unfortunately the 'rose tinted glasses' brigade are unable to get past that. There are also a lot of people who gave up with the town during the dark days prior to it's rejuvenation. Unfortunately, many choose not to come back. All I can say is they are missing a treat. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work.

Thanks for watching the video. I agree Stockton is on the up, I’m intrigued to see what the new development will look like. I also love live music. Love going to the Georgian theatre and the globe , to name but two😊
@MrGrip91110 ай бұрын
The Georgian Theatre is a great venue. The Globe, wow!! it's absolutely stunning. I also saw Fleetwood Bac at The Arc recently and The Beer Pigs in Story Tellers afterwards. Just booked my Stocktons Calling tickets as well. I visit KU Bar a lot and have seen loads of great trib bands in there. Northeast Music Rooms have a lot of good stuff going on as well. There's always a decent band on in The Red Lion last Friday of every month which I try to make 'work permitting.@@TheTeessideTravellerUK

Grew up in the 60s in Stockton before the castle center was built. Old pubs with arcades and tunnels down to the river. The old market had up to 180 stalls at its height. I remember the smell of pressure paraffin lamps in the winter and the pet stall near the shambles with tea chests of tortoises for 2/6d or 12.5 p in new money. The shambles was full of butchers stalls in those days. By the way its properly pronounced Ingleby "Barrick" not Barwick. Is Maddox's pet store still there on Finkle Street? I had a Saturday job there in 1969.

Brilliant ! Yes I know about the Barwick pronunciation, I’m always telling my self to say it correctly ! Thanks Brian

I’ve been living in Oxbridge for the past 10 year how things have changed is crazy them graves at the back and the area round it was so full of life and you could feel the atmosphere but the past 5ish year they started changing things to the worse business starting to shut down pubs that are still open look abandoned and in cared for and people stopped looking after the area and stopped caring it was an amazing place to live growing up it was truly a 1 in a million town but now it’s just feels empty … it’s really kinda sad to think about how much people have grown out of being happy and kind around this area you even struggle to get a smile out of people now no human decency left in the area what so ever 😔

Yes, the bullet holes on Victoria bridge are true. You got them @14.04. They were several raids during WW11 and nearby, St Peters Road had houses bombed.

Australian here visiting a friend. While I can definitely see the neglect that also pervades some rural Victorian towns, Stockton's actually quite nice. Walkability is better than most places in Melbourne (which often follows an American car-centric model).
