I do think you're overthinking this one. He's a middle aged man in a very stressful marriage. She is a beautiful younger woman who pays him some positive attention. Carmella is critical of every aspect of Tony's life and behavior while Adrianna looks at him with awe. So he got infatuated and fantasized about running away with her. He never consciously acknowledged his children because if he did, it would have instantly ruined the daydream. And a daydream is all it was. He just had a crush.
@PhilospherStoned2 жыл бұрын
i don’t think there can be such a thing or at least the threshold for “overthinking” is so high given the Sopranos is a show that causes you to think at times, especially when Tony is introduced to new information regarding his own deeper issues. i think the vid was pretty good but again, that’s probably just me cause i like thinking more about what’s been given with a show like The Sopranos.

Tony said the same thing about Charmaine. This like from him didn’t strike me as weird at all. It’s actually right on par with Tony constantly projecting that his current situation is a reflection of his romantic choices rather than an emotional and moral deficit. I think this also demonstrates his view of Christopher as a man in Tony’s eyes. There is a fundamental lack of respect for both Chris and (for much more valid reasons) Ralph. He can take both of their women with little internal conflict.
@Nystariii2 жыл бұрын

The difference is the Charm was a grown woman he slept with ba k in high school. Adrianna is someone with daddy issues and who Tony has a father/uncle relationship, she is also MUCH younger than Charm or Carmela. Also she IS related by blood to Carmela. It is technically incest within the extended family. It is down right creepy by tony, and note that he entertained leaving his fmaily for someone who is like a niece to him.
@shanellb.1972 жыл бұрын
@@Nystariii I think we as the audience are supposed to see Artie as a big impotent, but I’m not sure if Tony sees him that way. I think I’m many ways Tony is a bit envious of the simplicity of Artie’s life. This is weird, but this is a "normal" weird thought - at least for someone like Tony. Tony isn't young. He looks at Christopher as a younger version of himself. He looks at Adrianna as the kind of girl he'd be with. Her apparent attraction to him is a boost to his esteem. It suggests he can still get "the kind of girl" he could get as a young man. He knows that's not strictly true. But he fantasies about getting away from his responsibilities and starting again. This time, he'd do it right. Adrianna comes to represent this silly fantasy. His excuses seem bizzare. Getting rinsed in the divorce? Yes, this seems like a ridiculous excuse. But in reality, it's just an example of Tony starting to think of reality. He knows the reality is that he can't go back in time. He's not a young man. He can't start over. What he said was just childish. He's like a small 12 year old boasting to his friends that he could be the biggest kid in class in a fight. He believes the statement when he starts the sentence, starts to realise he's being ridiculous towards the end of the sentence. Then doubles down on the statement when his friends express doubt, but comes up with an excuse not to fight the kid. "Duncan thinks he's so tough, but I could take him! I'd kick his butt!" "What? Really?"" "Of course I could. He's not so tough. But his sister is hot, and she'd hate me afterwards". Tony's conversation is just a combination of a humble brag, some virtue signalling, getting overexcited about a compliment, fantasising about regaining his youth, then rapidly coming up with a rationalisation for not doing it in a way that avoids admitting that his fantasy was ridiculous - in order to avoid interrogating the idea further as a means of avoiding losing face. It's all very silly, but very human.

The timing of this vid is nice cause I just watched that episode last night (doing my annual Soprano's re-watch). But I don't think running away & abandoning everything is what he was contemplating. He was thinking to just start over with a new public relationship, like his sister & Bobby. In his head, Christopher would either accept it or get dealt with. He's a boss, so everyone else will fall in line & be supportive, regardless if they agree with it or not... he knows their obedience can be counted on. Similar to how they laugh at his jokes even when he knows they're not as funny as the amount of laughter suggests.

Never ever saw Aide running away with Tony. She's done too for Christopher. It's strange how people entertain this as if she was some tramp. She's no Skylar. @@ButtersCCookie I never said Aide would agree to it. I was just saying what I think was going on in the fantasy in Tony's head. I don't know what you're trying to say when you mention Skylar & Jesse... but I will say that Aide was not that smart. She was very easy to manipulate. Her pulling anyone into her web was just unlikely. It was always the other way around. When the feds 1st approached her, most people would've said "Lawyer" immediately, and never got pulled into their web. Another example is when Matush got her to help cover up a murder... and if Tony never crashed that night with her in the car, we all know where that was going. Then final example of her being easily manipulated, believing Tony on the phone & letting Silvio come pick her up, right after admitting to Christopher that she's been working with the feds.

Probably the best episode on the show. The event that changed everything, the no retourn line. I always interpretated Sopranos as a show that's presented from Toni's point of view, so Carmela, even tho very atractive for many fans, is never presented as a "hot" character in the show, and even in her sex scenes with Tony, I could feel some sad/awkard vives, like Tony was forcing himself to like her. Meanwhile, the show goes all the way to depict Adraina as a hot, sexual, atractive girl, wich leads me to belive that all along, instead of Melfi, Tony's secret crush was Adriana. He always defended her with Cristofer, told him to keep her around, allowed her to hang around his inner circle and felt distressed when she died. Tony is a very proud man so he probably never admited this to himself, but I always felt like he was jelous of Cristofer, who's young, brave and liked, thus, begin the possesive man that he is, he would always desire to take his woman. It's a tension that was there from the very begining, but buttled up, and ultimately, it became the conflict that set all of the events from the final episodes in motion, the "weak link" of the New Jersey family.

I'm referring to the dream where "in the Czech Republic too, they love pork!" and he sees Ade uhmm... having a big fat sausage. After the crash, the feds, hearing the gossip, even make fun Tony's weight. As far as his most degenerative trait….it’s murder. Not extramarital affairs. Definitely murder.

I think it was just impulsive Tony ranting another's hypothetical scenario

Carmella was hot like Adriana when she was young. That is what he misses. Getting a hot girl based on being young and appealing and not rich and domineering.

He sees how much she actually loves Chris. Carm wouldn’t stay with Tony if he didn’t support her lifestyle. But, I think he says that to justify sleeping with her in his mind. That his intentions would be to do it right this time.

Tony wants to express his fear. He feels trapped. Penned in by his own short sightedness and bad life decisions. His impulsiveness and self delusions are there to help hiom hide from the nightmare his life is quickly becoming. He wants an escape capsule. He wants out, but they keep pulling him back in. :D

What is the line from one of Tony's favorite songs dirty work by steely Dan? When you need a bit of loving and your man is out of town...
@intelligencelimited27082 жыл бұрын
I defer to you on these issues, and on all things, cineranter, but Tony doesn't really 'make a play' for Adrianna. It's just something hovering in the air that neither of them really confront.
@RaynmanPlays7 ай бұрын
He wasn't fantasizing about running away with Adriana specifically. It was more of a general idea about being able to start over with a younger woman and, as he said, "do it right this time."

I'm not sure 'narcissism' is what describes Tony, exactly. He has a fair amount of self loathing mixed in with his self-centredness.

"and keeping dysentery in the ranks to a minimum..." Funny that CR. I KNOW you meant "dissent in the ranks" - but you've become so entrenched in the world of the Sopranos, you're starting to talk like a guy from Jersey. 😎👍 Although, being from Jersey myself, and knowing how we can marmalize the English language, "dysentery" and "dissent" are both "dis-eases" which is exactly why a guy from Jersey WOULD use that word to mean dissent. Practically the same thing. Fuggetaboudit.

Tony’s weirdest line was actually when he asked “whatever happened to Gary Cooper?” Because it’s well known Gary Cooper passed away in 1961

Can anyone tell me what the line is please I just slipped through the entire video and didn’t see any spoken dialogue from the show.
