Wyoming Jeepers head to the western flanks of the Bighorn Mountains. They travel through Devil Canyon and stop along porcupine creek. This was a long loop ride with lots of scenery!

There are so many incredible places here to explore. Kinda funny about the looking straight down part... I used to be a real sissy about heights when I moved here 16 years ago, but it's a vertical world here in the Rockies and I've had to get used to it. I wanted to get used to it. Within a couple of years I was pretty well adjusted, but I still don't walk right to the edge of a cliff... that's just crazy. I've gotten over that fear but I guess Melissa maybe still has some "reservations" about it. LOL
@wyomingjeepers
@wyomingjeepers Жыл бұрын
I get it... I still don''t like being near a cliff walking around. Melissa was raised a flatlander and didn't grow up in the mountains. She is gettin more used to it but I'm sure it will always bug her some. Thanks for the comment!
@AuthorMelissaCook
@AuthorMelissaCook Жыл бұрын
Yes, Melissa has reservations because we once came over a hill that seems completely sound and the road was GONE under the driver's side. GONE! One BIG hole in the ground about 10 feet deep and quite wide. What it seems, may not be what it is - especially if there is a cut-away that I can't see. So, yes, I'm the baby. Elaine seems quite calm in this video but most of the time she gets the baby award. Hahaha - I actually pulled a long Uhaul trailer over the Big Horn Mountains by myself once. I can't do it. It's the narrow, less driven roads that scare me the most. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. May our paths cross soon.

I’m trying to plan some off-road trips for the summer, I’m a student down at UW. Is this route open to the public and if so do you guys ever post your routes?
@AuthorMelissaCook
@AuthorMelissaCook Жыл бұрын
We typically have a map in our latest episodes. Elgin and I are working on a book of maps for our first thirty shows but that probably won't be out until next summer, realistically. This route is open to the public on foot, except a small piece that is privately owned by the Bischoff family in Lovell. They do lend the key to people at times. I don't know if they lend one out to everyone; you will need to call them and ask. With the key, you can drive the full route. Beware, the road out of Devil's Canyon on the show is a very steep drive and climbs from the bottom of the canyon to the top in quick order. We liken it to the Morrison Jeep Trail, only much shorter. If you are afraid of heights, this is not a road for you, but you can go in from the bottom and exit the same way without climbing that mountain. I hope you get to see it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@Jasonrcsd
@Jasonrcsd Жыл бұрын
since you had to cross private property, I'm assuming that i couldn't jump in my Jeep and do the same route?
@wyomingjeepers
@wyomingjeepers Жыл бұрын
You are correct. There are are two locked gates that you have to get through. This is why Jon invited us because he had access and knew we didn't. He knew we would like the drive. On the video, you will see us go through two gates made from iron poles. One is right before we met the Bischoff family and one is right after we climbed out of the canyon. Everything before the first gate and after the 2nd gate is available to the public. Unfortunately, the canyon requires a key to the gates.
@DarkLordofDebate
@DarkLordofDebate Жыл бұрын
@@wyomingjeepers Is any of the canyon publicly accessible? Looks like a lot of it is BLM land, but all the access points are through that ranch. Are any of those roads accessing it public?
@wyomingjeepers
@wyomingjeepers Жыл бұрын
@@DarkLordofDebate Yes, No and Kinda... Now I'll explain. 🙂 The main canyon (Devil) is all on public land. The gate getting in there is also on public land. I talked to the BLM a year ago to find out what was going on and it seems some sort of deal was made quite some time ago exchanging access on other land and allowing Bischoff's control of the canyon for vehicle travel. So... No, you can't just drive down in there. You can however, contact the Bischoff's and they may allow entry. I really don't know the Bischoffs so it was nice that Jon took us through. The Yes - You can park at the gate to Devil canyon and walk down there without permission from the Bischoff family. There is a road that follows the top of the canyon on the west side that also is public access. Hope this helps.
@AuthorMelissaCook
@AuthorMelissaCook Жыл бұрын
The Biscoff family ranch office in Lovell. You can contact them to ask for the key. I can't image they would say no. If we go again, I'd like to go in through the canyon and then back out without making the huge loop because it is a long day for a Jeep and the most beautiful spot is behind the gate in the canyon. Thanks for watching.
