Hot tip for next time: You can't go into these situations like "are you a cult? Why are you living here?" do it more like "We have recently learned about your community and would like to learn more. Will you show us around and tell us more about your life here, please?" if you do they are more likely to open up to you and you get to learn the real truth (which you can tell each other in the bus later, out of their earshot).

Agreed. I noticed these things as well, fairly glaringly at that. Also, describing the place as "Silent Hill" and "Totally Spooky" right in front of them wasn't gaining them any extra credibility either. I understand Urbexers aren't documentary-Anthropologists with a diploma from Seminary School, but so much came across as _very_ amateurish which just left me wishing that they went there more prepared. Now these people will be less trusting of outsiders coming around with cameras asking to speak to them. These groups can and actually most often *are* _incredibly dangerous_ and even outright hostile. They prey upon the local populaces in a number of ways. To be able to even get small details of actions like that can be _so_ helpful to our society at large. As we can see, these things are _very real_ and our younger generations need to be educated in this specific variety of stranger-danger.

With it getting dark, I don't blame them for wanting you to leave. They don't know you or what your intentions are. This place defiantly wasn't originally a cult. It was an organized church summer camp. They used to be very common, and some are still thriving. Kid, teens, and families would come in the summer for outdoor activities and church in the evening. Not sure about what's going on there now, though. 🤷🏼♀️ But, great video of a time capsuled piece of history!

Looks like every Christian campground that I attended camp at as a kid. Most of them have a bunch of families that live in year round cottages. Where I live, they were all ruled "midgetville" and the rumors were that little people lived there bc they were little houses....not true but that was the rumor. Usually the families that live there do their best to keep up the buildings, but they often fall into disrepair due to the financial burden. But it's really a great way to live with a much cheaper rent or mortgage than anywhere else.

When I was a kid I lived in a military base neighborhood in the early 2000s that looked pretty similar to those double duplex style houses. It wasn’t all that bad, but when they wanted to change or upgrade something to the neighborhood it was kinda annoying because there was so much construction work and I remember once having to live in a hotel for a couple of days because they wanted to update the kitchens in all of the houses. At least they allowed pets, but you couldn’t have more than three.

I am from northern Illinois, born and raised in Chicago for 45 years then moved 40 miles north in 2015. Southern Illinois has many abandoned towns that look like ghost towns. Poverty, plants shutting down, no jobs, crime, and drugs are usually the reasons why. Nature will reclaim anything man has created, so as not being taken care of. My sister lives in Louisville, Kentucky so she travels up through these towns when she goes back to Chicago or the rare times she comes to see me. Many abandoned places are taken over by homeless and squatters and druggies so be careful going into these places, especially at night. And when going inside these places bring masks with you, preferably respirator masks for that black mold. Years of being exposed to it can cause long term problems, so you definitely do not want that.

Most people who are in cults do not initially realize they are in a cult; they often join believing they are part of a positive or supportive group, and the manipulative tactics used by cult leaders can make it difficult for members to recognize the controlling aspects of the group, leading them to rationalize and deny the cult-like behavior.

I think they are bringing awareness to what cults target and the type of people that could be more susceptible. I was raised and got out of a cult. I do not find what they are doing is wrong at all educating people. These people will thank them for the exposed one and if they smarten up and leave. I was in one this is a cult. Also, the only wrong thing I saw was all that man had to say was freedom of speech, 2nd ammendment, living freely, don't agree with religion, and leader. What all cult members say cause their not going to say "yes I'm in a cult" because most don't even know they are. What shocked me is within 11min he had old dude sold that it was not a cult. That's how easy it is to sucked in. So I feel I have huge standing to speak on this and nothing other than what I just said is not wrong. We can all shut up and let em grow and grow. Shit let's diddy out while we're at it. Open up og epstein island before we knew what it was again? Cause cult members are victims until they are perpetrators and pedo shit happens with grown woman and men in most cults. So, again. Go them to expose even if ol dude is on the fence. THEY ARE A CULT and I doubt if they walked up and caught on camera a sacrifice, a shot through the window of the leader with multiple minors yall would have a different opinion but I guess ppl arnt ready for that conversation. Sorry lol I just went on a rant this is very traumatizing still to hear people defend cults. All is from personal experience (they are all the same just different ways of their specific cult) and is all alleged until facts come out until it no longer is speculation. ALLEGED!!! ALL OF IT!!!! Can't be too Careful these days.

Yes that village definitely has a weird upside down vibe. Like you guys said it was like what I saw matched my feelings for that place, like it would be cool from the beginning but things could get worse and worse the longer a person stayed. The houses looked really dark and haunted. Also, If people stopped while driving by seemed really weird, like rumors could fly around town.. Scary for women fs

Some people maybe surprised by how many of these groups exist in America. Some really extreme 👀

I don't think anyone outside of the USA would be surprised at all.

It’s so crazy to think that only in a few years things can become so overgrown and apocalyptic looking

I think you should return and ask to speak with the president. Express interest in investing to help rebuild the community. That would give you an opportunity to ask questions and learn answers. If rebuilding is a priority in this community, they would be open to an offer from someone who cares about historical preservation. I find it interesting that the man bought his house for only 2k. He works on the property doing other jobs as well as building his own home. Does he have a job? The President might own the land and homes, selling them cheaply to others who are willing to be indentured labor to the community. Question is, do these people receive titles to their homes? How much freedom do they actually have? If you were his guest, why and how can the committee ask you to leave? He said he was a free person. There is definitely something odd going on there.
