Thank you Nate. Your videos always get to the point. Then so will I. I’m using a Lynx BMS with Lynx distro on the left side for my 4 victron 200ah smart batts fused inputs. I do not need a Lynx Distro on the load / charger right side because they are already fused at the proper end of the cable (smart battery protected loads fused near BMS and chargers fused near charge source). Additionally, I do not have room for another L Distro. Instead I need two positive and two negative 4/0 cables off the Lynx BMS right side to go to existing bus bars. I can see no harm in using two flipped 4/0AWG - 5/16” lugs on each BMS bus. They lie flush on the bars and with each other including heat shrink and do not contact plastic housing. I am aware of the 500A continuous (600A for up to 5 min) rating of the Lynx BMS. This sound OK?

Firstly, this is one of the best resources for off grid wiring on KZbin! well done At 2:30 in the video, you show a 48v battery bank, I'm setting up a 48v system using Victron components, at his stage I reckon I will be using multiple 12v vrla batteries wired to make 48v, using the power in lynx, in your opinion, where does the main disconnect switch go and the smart shunt? after the power in but before the lynx distribution, as I'm using the power in as my way of combining my 12v strings to make 48v, does that make sense? If my assumptions of were the disconnect and shunt go, it's difficult to do a nice job of it, I don't see as disconnect switch that bolt straight into the connectors, I'm guessing I'll need some heavy cable to connect all together.

Two are for attaching two solar chargers, one is for the MultiPlus 3000,and the last one is feeding the DC voltage to the campers distribution box. Quick follow-up to my question a month ago.. I’m about to install the Dometic RTX 2000 air conditioner. They recommended using the Blue Seas 187 series 100A breaker. I’m already using up all 4 slots of the Lynx Distributor. So my question is, can I just wire up the breaker using the Lynx Distributor’s expansion points (at the right end of each busbar)? I only need one more slot and don’t really want, or ultimately need, more than one more slot. So to sum up, I’m thinking going from the Lynx, adding proper gauge + & - wires and connecting them to the 100A breaker and finally wiring to the air conditioner. By the looks of it, I’ll most likely have to modify the Lynx’s cover, meaning cut/Dremel out the proper amount to accommodate the lugs/bolts/etc. but that’s only cosmetic. Thoughts anyone, or Nate specifically? Thanks for all you do.

When you can, please provide an in-depth review of the Lynx Smart BMS. This video skips right over it. I understand you don’t have one yet, but it is so new that there is no third party info on it, so lots of folks are asking questions about it, and coming up very short. (One example, even Victron diagrams show it being used with a BatteryProtect, which makes no sense. Victron community could not even answer that one!) In particular, in what systems would it make sense? Adding up all the components it seems to replace only gets to about 70% of the price. Things just don’t add up…

If you decided to go down the route of a combo charge controller and DCDC Charger... you wouldn't need seperate components. Generally, the combo MPPT's and DC DC Chargers are so limiting that I can't recommend them. For example... the 50A renogy DC DC Charger has a max solar input voltage of 25V. This is not even high enough for the MPPT to properly do it's job and SEVERELY limits how you can wire your solar array. It's just not a good system.

I hooked the input of the converter (red +, black -) to the screws on the right send of the Lynx Distributor. I plan on putting a fuse inline on the red wire but I don't have that yet. It worked great. Just so you know, if you have a blown (or missing) fuse, the power LED and the LED over the bad fuse both light up red. All the fuses have to be in place and then you will just get a green LED on the power LED only. That's what we wanted, right? Very cool. For sure! All of our lynx distributor wiring kits for BMV-712's have the appropriate spacers & adapters to make that happen: shop.explorist.life All of the 'full installs' we've done this year on this channel use those as well.

@EXPLORISTlife I'm won't be needing any wiring kit, just the linx distributor and spacers with the adapters. I can't find the adapters, just the linx distributor in the store....

The search function on our store works pretty well. Did the adapters not show up when you searched for 'adapters'?

@EXPLORISTlife no they didn't show up, I couldn't find them anywhere on your website...
Hi, i would like to know if its possible to somehow connect 2 Charge controllers in paralel when its only a power source. I have a wind turbine capable of giving 2,5 Kw, 48 V bateries pack and i would need to somehow connect 2 1450W Charge controllers between the Bat Pack and the wind turbine. Do you know of a way or do you maybe have a tipp for me ?

I have pretty much no experience with wind turbines, unfortunately.

Nate, thanks for the great videos. I bought the suggested setup (including the Lynx distributer) from Battle born and am very happy. I have a quick question. I received the battery isolator (Li-BIM 225), do I also need a DC-DC charger?
@EXPLORISTlife3 жыл бұрын
In my diagrams (www.explorist.life/solarwiringdiagrams) I recommend the Orion DC DC charger INSTEAD OF the Li-BIM 225, but either will work. Here are my thoughts on that: www.explorist.life/how-to-charge-diy-camper-van-batteries-with-vehicle-alternator/

what would charge my 48v battery using the alternator to starter battery to the accessory battery?
@EXPLORISTlife3 жыл бұрын
Victron doesn't have anything that will charge a 48V battery bank from a 12V alternator. I'm sure there is a charger out there that would do that, but I don't have any 48V system designs on my site, so I haven't dedicated any time to figuring one out.

Nate...have you experienced / seen a Victron BMV 712 battery shunt with temps around 130-140F? Seems a bit high...
@EXPLORISTlife3 жыл бұрын
That does indeed seem a bit high. I would check the quality of the connections of the wires to the lugs and the lugs to the shunt. That would more likely cause heat than the shunt itself. Verify good crimps and sand/clean the lugs to shunt connections.

Say you have 2 lithium battery banks one 200ah and a 280ah do you need two? I have them isolated with their own Victron charge controller and the batteries have 200a smart bms’s. How do I configure this? Ty dave

The batteries in a battery bank should be identical.

@@EXPLORISTlife let’s don’t though this idea out without the science. Well the fact of the matter IS I have two banks. Right now there isolated. New data shows it is possible to have different ah’s if not too Dissimilar ah “can” charge off the same charge controller because of the BMS. People have just not explored it because they live in a perfect world. People Said I shouldn’t have been able to what I’ve already done . This is probable possible. Let not cut ourselves short and try and figure it out. Call it a challenge. I’m asking one of … no probable the best solar company ever to just scratch their head and address the idea… is it possible? Maybe it’s like dissimilar solar panels… it will take the lesser wattage. Who knows. I’m no Engineer. Both banks are lifepo4 200ah and 280ah. exact Chemical composition . Do we still believe the world is flat?

Hello I have another question about the lynx distributor on my solar installation I have 5 strings so 5 mptt smarsolar 150/35 they all have their 40A mega fuse fuse I was wondering if it was possible to connect the 5 smarsolar 150/35 directly to a lynx connector with a 200A fuse? possible? because otherwise I have to buy 2 lynx (expensive) to connect 4 individual smart solar (6MM²) on each lug of the first lynx and 2 others on the second lynx with the multiplus 800VA in all 7 locations on the 2 lynx no risk of gathering all the mptt in 6MM on 1 lug of 50MM²?
@EXPLORISTlifeАй бұрын
You'll need one charge controller per space on the lynx distributor. Combining all of them on one fuse is strictly forbidden.
@laurentsosson1739Ай бұрын
Thank you for your answer yes I have 5 mptt 150/35 charge regulators protected by 5 40A fuses so each regulator must be connected by space of the lynx so I need 2 lynx of 4 spaces i already have the fuses between the MPTT and the lynx no need to add another mega fuse on the lynx on each mptt?

Hi. I have a massive question. I've got a 24v bank to run an electric outboard motor. It's charged direct from a solar system. However I want to also charge a 12v bank to supply an inverter for the boat. Can I just use a 24v to 12 v "dc to dc" charger? Can I run those of a *bank* of batteries? Most manuals say "run off an inverter". However, I'm going to have it running of the 24v bank, technically?
@EXPLORISTlife2 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend matching the voltage of the inverter to the voltage of the battery bank. So... 24V battery to a 24V inverter.
@TechyBen2 жыл бұрын
@@EXPLORISTlife Thanks. She is going 100% electric next year hopefully. So won't have an inverter! I just want to make sure it's safe to charge a 12v bank from a 24v bank using a Victron DC to DC charger.

How does my Spartan charger/inverter compare to this set up?
@EXPLORISTlife3 жыл бұрын
They are not really comparable as they serve two completely different functions within a system. This is a busbar and fusing system (basically), and your Inverter Charger converts back and forth between AC and DC power.
