My Mom did her baking and meal preparation all on one day. She made bread, muffins, biscuits, corn bread, cookies, pies and cakes. She loaded the oven with all the things that cooked at the same temperature. It saved money and time to bake all at once rather than heat the oven several times during the week. She reheated any breads on top of whatever she was cooking on the stove top. Wrapping biscuits or cornbread in foil and lay over potatoes/etc that she was cooking. Really easy to do. I miss all the beautiful smells. 😍 She would share her pies and cakes with those less fortunate or unable to bake. Like the single handicapped man who mowed our yard. He never wanted money just pies. 💘 Mom grew up at the end of the depression so saving money and time while looking out for others was always part of her character. I miss her. Thank you for sharing your tips.

I’m 61 and lost the desire to cook for just one but now I have my granddaughter and great granddaughter living with me and I want to do better. I’m even starting an indoor garden. I want to can food as well but it’s still a daunting task that scares me but you make me want to try. Thank you. PS. Your parents are sweet and what you do for them is amazing.

@@BecomingaFarmGirl oh can’t wait to see them and the projects you get accomplished. It will be nice to see them in the kitchen with you too. When I actually first started canning, about seven years ago, I went to the farmers market with my mom. I was so overzealous and bought so much produce. They had smallish Roma tomatoes on special, because they were small. so I got one or two cases of them I don’t remember. It was my mom who got that job, sitting at the sink and peeling all of them after I blanched them. She has not forgiven me yet for that lol there was so many very small tomatoes. Her carpal tunnel is still flared up lol. We still laugh about it. She has not canned anything with me since 😑 lol. Hmph. My week is fine thank you hopefully yours as well. Nothing tastes as good as your own food. I have enough can food to last me for the next year and half! which is great because I just had solar panels put in last month, which I had to borrow money for. The money I’m saving on my electric bill and only eating from my garden and pantry will pay off the loan off in 6 months instead of the 3 years. Keep up the great videos.

I am sending this video to myself in a text 😊. You pack so much into a video I can't even begin to comprehend/remember it all. I'm from the south so your speed talking gets me every time, but I love your videos. And usually I am doing something else like laundry, cleaning etc and I just keep backing it up until I finally just take a break and back the video up and sit down to watch 😂. Keep them coming.

My mom has severe food allergies, and doesn't like cooking. I have found a few ideas that I can pull from this to make some easier store and cook meals for her. Thank you!.

I love cooking. Hearing you say that it was a semi form of art inspired me. I used to love all things art - I think your cheery demeanour is great too! Im sure the people around you are greatful for all you do! I think I'll go pick up some drawing supplies. It's nice to remember how much one nice person can inspire you. Thank you :)

I just found your Channel today. And this is the first video I watched. Just from the first couple of minutes in I knew that I wanted to subscribe; and did. I have been in a bit of a rut. Not motivated at all to cook, prep, can. Although I have never can before. But I do want to can some things. I've been in a bit of a rut because it's been a very busy year and the lack of time has been very discouraging. But after watching this video and I watched one of your other videos I feel motivated again. Thank you for the great ideas.

That rice fish broccoli idea is great! I like getting everything ready in the morning then just having to pop it in the oven later. The kids are often in mommy mode around dinner time and something low maintenance is such a stress relief.

Well thank you YT for scrolling this channel for me to check out. Love this - especially the preserving in small batches. I needed to hear that. I was raised old school - canning ALL of the things all summer long. It is exhausting and I am ready to make new habits with my preservation methods. Looking forward to watching more videos - and new subscriber. Thanks for sharing!
