People can end up having serious drug interactions if they get a new prescription from a different pharmacy and nothing flags that they're taking two things that interact. These are serious drugs, not like ibuprofen where you can self diagnose "yes, my back does hurt, I'd like it to not hurt for 4 hours," but even those can cause long term damage, like ulcers, if taken too much.

I work in healthcare and the amount of teens I am seeing inquire about trans care is scary. I have a few old friends from high school whose teens now say they are trans…one of them came out as “non binary” for like two months and now she is back to being a girl. People think this is just a joke but this is a serious problem!

Typically though (not always which is worrying) there needs to be rigorous evaluations and tests and conversations with doctors and therapists and specialists before teens can get hormones. I have tons of trans friends and non binary friends. Some chose not to medically transition after a few meetings with doctors and because the doctors required so much they realized that they didn't want that. I've had others who have been going to doctors for years before they got medicine. One friend got clearance from his parents to do this when he was like 16 and still didn't get hormones until he was 22 because of doctor evaluations. He is very happy now, but ordinarily it's a while (it's supposed to) I don't think kid care should be criminalized but I do think there should rigid standards for the amount of time and testing necessary.

As the medicine is targeting that specific function in the body, it affects it in unreliable ways. For example I am on medicine to raise my blood pressure & help my blood flow round my body better. better. 2 common side effects are low blood pressure & developing raynaud's syndrome which means poor blood flow in the bodies extremities. Another medication is for migraines, which can cause migraines! It's about balancing the positives with the negatives. So just because the person you replied too experienced side effects, it may have been a lower level of symtoms compared to if she wasn't on the medication. My daughter has a growth hormones deficiency and she needs to be seen by an endocrinologist regularly and get tests done to make sure its working correctly. If she gets more than she needs, it can make her tonsils and adenoids grow too fast and she can suffocate overnight. If she doesn't get enough, then her other symptoms will take over and be devastating. I know its not the same as sex hormones but its similar and can be so horrible for the kid if not regulated by a doctor.

It is really similar though, trans kids and adults both go through years and years of specialists and doctors and therapists in order to get prescriptions from professionals because it is a huge deal. I'm all for giving trans kids gender affirming care, ik not everyone is that's not the point rn, but thats after rigorous evaluations and parent conversations and years of other tactics to avoid chemicals. But if there is a mismanaged dosage or a missed dose then the flux is harmful and can flood the brain with the wrong chemicals in the end. Then sometimes the damage is so severe that when they do become medically independent, it's too dangerous to give them the drugs. So not only will Eli have harmed a child, she ultimately would have prevented a trans person from being themselves which is against the apparent point of her idea anyway.

Screwing with hormones and the endocrine system can be deadly without supervision. My daughter has 0.25 ml every day of HGH but there was a time when they overestimated how much she needed and she was desatting every single night. It was only 3 days before we got it fixed but if we didn't have her monitor she could've died any of those days. When its time for us to increase her dose we can tell because she starts losing the ability to move. It genuinely makes me so scared for these kids who are self medicating. Its life and death.

That's a good attitude to have. I'm in my early 30s now and if I look back now, I often had no bloody clue what I was doing until I was at least 25. I think only after 25 I started to really *get* who I was and be properly comfortable with myself. And I'm not someone who ever had any major issues with self confidence and sexuality, although those, too, got a lot clearer after that. So yeah, honestly, allow yourself to have experience with the adult life, try different things, and don't shove yourself into any strict boxes. Like, I used to be one of those people who'd say "you do know if you never want to have children and there should be no restrictions for getting sterilised". I was 100% sure I never want children since I was like 15. Well. I was wrong. For the last three years I've known that I do in fact want children, despite of how sure I was just a few years ago that I don't. So. There absolutely should be some gatekeeping when it comes to alterinh your body in ways that cannot be reversed. When you get older, even the things you think you are 100% sure about yourself, might change.

If people are willing to ingest or inject drugs of unknown origins, contents, and purity there are those that are willing and eager to take something that they are led to believe will aid them in their quest to be "something different". I fear that a child or young adult may be enticed to take a drug that they believe is one thing yet, sadly, maybe something altogether different. Counterfeit drugs are a lucrative market and where there is a demand, there is always someone eager to take advantage of it. Hopefully, these illicit 'believed to be hormone' medications will not contain fentanyl but we have no idea of who will be passing pills off as what.

The doctor didn't warn me that depression was a side effect, I pieced that together myself after I was already researching how to off myself. Another point, random people sending their supposed “prescription” HRT medications through the mail can be EXTREMELY dangerous. Hormones require vigorous monitoring under the care of a doctor. Hormonal imbalance can cause severe problems, coming from a person with PCOS. I have to take spironolactone daily and I hate having to have a regimen just to get my cycle back. I’m under the care of my physician so I have no complaints. Medication can be easily tampered with and it only takes one malicious person to lace the drugs with something potentially fatal!! DEA needs to get on his ass! Drugs can be tampered with and re-pressed!

I was on medication that kick started menopause. The doctor warned me that my dose was strong enough to actually cause a lot of physical harm if taken by someone else. My biggest fear was a porch bandit swiping the box before I knew it was delivered. I lectured my kids and their friends to never even think about using my meds, I was upfront that none of my meds could make you "high" and that death is a real side effect (I am on oral chemo and hormonal suppressants)

I’m non-binary, but I do have my disagreements with some sectors of the trans community. I don’t (usually) associate with the trans community either, but on those occasions whenever I do, I typically steer clear of political discussions. That said, I personally don’t mind a minor transitioning IF they have strong, long-lasting, persistent feelings of being a different gender than their AGAB, especially if such feelings started at an early age and have continuously persisted since then. What kids (and adults for that matter) need is to have a broader range of expression that is available to acceptable to them, regardless of gender.
