Another downside of using fake leather (or plastic “vegan” leather) is how non-eco friendly it is compared to real leather. One, because it’s usually made from plastic / PU which is worse for the environment in the production process and two, it just doesn’t last as long so you go through more pairs. Real leather can have its issues too with water consumption in the tanning process but nothing compared to the fake stuff. Real leather just lasts way longer and doesn’t end up in a landfill after a year.. just another reminder to watch out for greenwashing

No doubt. Compare that 'new' or even the new and upcoming drops list [141 items in men's alone] to the first Nike Air catalog insert from 1987 and add in all the non-air shoes they made that year, how many more women's and kid's versions and specialty items, the company is probably releasing at a scale of 1000 times what they were then. Particularly when factoring all the colorway variations. Original models today can release in a half dozen on the first day and tack on another half dozen a few months later. OG Air Max 1s you got 2 colorways.

From an economics perspective this is a great example of 'Substitution rule' in consumer price inflation. The manufacturer decides rather than increase prices, because leathers are costing them more, they reduce quality of materials and charge the same. We've seen this more and more with processed food over the last decade. Ever notice some item you've eaten for years suddenly tastes uninspiring? Happens a lot in anything requiring grains like bread, cereal, confections and sweets. Especially now considering artificial sweeteners are dominating sugar for the same reasons....costs and inflation. In another decade it'll be hard to find a $100 shoe that isn't 100% artificial. And a Hostess cupcake will cost $20 and still taste like soy sucralose. They just won't stop..conjuring..currency. (shrugs)

Blazer SB is arguably better quality but lower in price ($85-95). Most come with (mediocre) suede upper and an insole with zoom air cushion at the heel. At the end of the day, it's a vulcanized shoe. The point of failure is, if not at the leather upper, at the glued outsole. Wouldn't be a durable shoe even with good quality leather imo.
