In this podcast we are in conversation with Venky Balasubramanian. Venky is the co-founder and CEO of Plivo, cloud-based communications platform that simplifies how businesses integrate communications into their applications.
Venky shares his insights on the future of India and why he believes that India is poised to overtake China as the world's leading economy.
We discuss the two major challenges facing India: the lack of skilled workers and the low consumption rate. He explains why India needs to move away from its "jugadu" culture and adopt a more professional approach. He also talks about the differences between China and India, and why he believes that India has a better chance of success.
Venky also shares his thoughts on the VC money & current startup dynamics in the country.
Finally, Venky shares his thoughts on the future of AI and how it will disrupt the telecommunications industry.
This is a fascinating and thought-provoking podcast that gives you a unique perspective on the future of India. Watch it till the end and don’t forget to like, subscribe & share.

Thank you for doing these podcasts. I think the major question you are asking is "What have guests done and have done up till now" but I like to hear "How have they done it in depth." e.g: If any Tech company founder comes to the next episode Ask them: How they thought about this idea, How they raised funding, How they defined equities this kind of depth question really adds Value I think.

Man, this type of podcast we all need. I see all of your podcasts, but this was very special because we've got very intresting Insights about global corporates culture. And also sometimes founders tend to hesitate to give answers to such questions but he has answered in a very appropriate manner.

I used to start by day at 8 AM in the morning, when official time was 9 AM while all my teammates would come by 10 AM. I would discuss my To Dos for day with my boss and make it a point to complete them by 8 PM. That was the time all my teammates would leave. But my manager would come up at 8 PM with new unplanned work and would ask me to get it done urgently in that day itself, even if I would suggest it could finish it next day he would insist I finish it in same day. Later I would know he hasnt even looked at it for days if not weeks and would again ask me his queries of those work when he would take up. Thus, I would sit late in office for like 10 PM or 12 AM. When I thought i would get promotion on managerial post, a new MBA was hired. Thats why we could never have that Chinese work culture in India.

Hi Raj, Your questions are tremendous with respect to each and every guest. I would like to see a separate video describing how a private company works, from the MD to the CEO. What are their responsibilities? I would also like to add a few things, like when a new idea comes up, how to decide on hiring talents and the specific positions of any company, and how to raise funds. All these details in a series of videos or a brief idea in a single video It would be extremely helpful. Thanks Raj.

Hello Raj, I really like your podcasts and appreciate your hard work. Thanks a lot for bringing these kind of guests. A question I would like you to ask is about the VR technology. Is Indian market ready for businesses which will use VR, META and what will be the challenges faced by the startups which will introduce these to the market first in their respected area, will their be first mover advantages or disadvantages.

Love your shows... as an older entrepreneur who has made many mistakes, your conversations with successful entrepreneurs are very enlightening... i tend to agree with Venky regarding trying to make do with vc funding, bcos the pressure on giving returns to their investment becomes too much... sometimes its better to grow organically... I've preferred bank loans, using family property as collateral when the business has good potential instead of the stress of people looking over ur shoulder & the constant interference... but each to their own.

After staying in Germany one thing i learnt about what india does wrong 1) while setting up my home here i saw how horrible German furniture is . But germans sell themselves on their quality..which is existent oly in few areas, so creating auras and perceptions, creating narratives is very important. 2 ) indians should stop thinking western culture and western lifestyle is superior to theirs .it really is not ...be steadfast in maintaining your self respect 3 ) think of yourself as equal to others ..and always think of over working the other guys from other nations...work more than them always... Thats t we will be the best

Hi Raj , i wanted to know how lower middle class youngsters can think and build like this kind of startup and business, and what are the ways to learn and think like that, because why I am asking I am from that category and I am very much interested in business but don't have much knowledge about business, so please work on this question 🙏 we wanted to become a entrepreneur, business man ... I know you are doing same thing but still we are not getting the idea please go deeper in this question and some time your talking about only higher level people, like who they are already ready to start a business, my question is simple how lower middle class people can think about business and entrepreneurship.🙏🙏
