Factual Errors: “The Book of Mormon states God curses people of color.” No. There are “people of color” (all people have a melanin count somewhere on a spectrum) who God has not cursed, in the Book of Mormon. If you hate the Book of Mormon it’s because you have decided in advance to hate it, or you’re projecting your bad experience with the church onto the book. Some things (like “women are not allowed to wear pants to church”) are obvious exaggerations. What? A woman in pants will get kicked out of church? That’s just silly. However, I don’t like defending the church since I consider it a corrupt business masquerading as a religion, duping a lot of people.

Members and missionaries are all very amiable and church only lasts 2 hours unless you wanna stay for activities. I've been attending almost a year, they are always welcoming and don't care I’m not converting nor try to force it on me. We just happily co-mingle and get along. Some LDS churches may be like that but the one I've been at is very kind and nonjudgmental.

@DecemberSfy You're bisexual and have an active sex life. Well, that's not allowed in the Mormon Church. If they were to interview to determine whether or not you're worthy enough to be baptized, they would tell you that you're NOT worthy enough. You will have to be celibate or be in a heterosexual traditional marriage ONLY, if you are to be considered worthy enough to be a member of the Mormon Church. They'll excommunicate a member who's sexually active if they aren't heterosexual and married in a heterosexual marriage ONLY. And of course they're welcoming to you right now. That's because you aren't a member of the Church yet. Things will change drastically once you're a member. As a member the male Bishop (notice only males are allowed to have authority in the Mormon Church -- women are not allowed in the priesthood) will consider it his right to discipline you. ALL Mormon Churches are Dictated to by the HQ in Salt Lake City. You might be attending a ward where the Bishop is more Liberal (might). But once you're a member you'll have to obey the rules or be disciplined. Have you listened to the channel "Mormon Stories"? Lots of Mormons tell of their experiences there. And then they usually get excommunicated for speaking about the abuse they've suffered.

While there are appropriate responses to all of these statements, perhaps the one to share should be regarding women wearing pants in church. Since the first chapter in the Bible, God has demanded respect from all of His creations. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we love our Heavenly Father and show that love by having respect for Him, for others, and for ourselves. Since the beginning of time, respect was shown for God by wearing the finest clothes which were available when attending worship services. For millenia, men and women were expected to wear clothing which was modest and appropriate to their gender when entering places dedicated to worship. I would be surprised if you could find any Christian church before the 1950’s, in the United States or possibly the world, where women were not required to routinely wear a dress when in the chapel or it’s equivalent. It is still a sign of respect for the men to at least wear a white shirt, slacks and a tie to church, and a suit is considered most appropriate. While the Savior would never exclude a sincere seeker of truth from any participation in His church, there are many ways to see that all understand and are able to show the proper respect for the ordinances. For at least the last 30 years, I am not aware of any ward (congregation) where someone was barred from entering the chapel because of their dress. If their clothing is too immodest, there are usually several members ready to loan them appropriate substitutes and assist them in preparing to worship properly. Women who are investigating the church often attend wearing pants, and usually no comment is made, unless questioned. If they continue to attend, they quickly recognize the difference in clothing and generally start dressing to blend with the other attendees. It is a shame that, even within the church, each succeeding generation seems to be being taught less and less about respect for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and respect for others and themselves. As an additional comment: for approximately the past six years, sister missionaries have been allowed to wear pants while proselyting.

Yes tithing exists even in the Bible but by no means is it something that will get you into heaven.
@barrycook81165 ай бұрын
I guess no one reads their Bible anymore about the Tithe. The reason why you wouldn’t tithe 10% which is in the Bible is you are lovers of money. The fact you think the church needs your money is pretty hilarious. Tithe is a test and the only Test the Bible talks about. You can’t serve money and God. Sure you don’t have to tithe but you are not putting your 100% faith in God. Paying a tithe is about you and where you heart is. There is literally hundreds of scriptures in the Bible about tithing. Those that love money will read past those verses. Personal relationships with Christ starts with your heart. Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:3 In the last days people will be lovers of MONEY! Your excuse for not tithing is that churches don’t need my money or Jesus doesn’t need my money. First off if you have a relationship with Christ it’s not your money anyways it’s all Gods you are the manger of it. Choosing to just not obey the Bible and not tithe again what Paul tells Timothy that people will be lovers of MONEY! I didn’t see any proof in scripture where we shoudnt tithe….. Will a man rob or defraud God? Yet you rob and defraud Me. But you say, In what way do we rob or defraud You? [You have withheld your] tithes and offerings. (Malachi 3:8 AMPC) You are cursed with the curse, for you are robbing Me, even this whole nation. [Lev. 26:14-17.] (Malachi 3:9 AMPC) Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. [Mal. 2:2.] (Malachi 3:10 AMPC) Do not gather and heap up and store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust and worm consume and destroy, and where thieves break through and steal. But gather and heap up and store for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust nor worm consume and destroy, and where thieves do not break through and steal; For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matthew 6:19-21 AMPC)

- Thousands of years ago, doesn’t apply today at all - Anyone worthy can hold a position in the church - At the time, everyone was a polygamist, no matter your religion, you had thousands of people as a polygamist - Men and women can wear anything they want. As long as it’s not insanely inappropriate (as in showing privates) - Church is actually 2 hrs long and you can do whatever you want on Sundays, it’s just to your best judgement - Nobody forces you to not drink certain things, we just don’t like those things as much that do badly to your body - Exactly, nobody forces you to do anything - I don’t think you’ve been to byu and we just follow the scriptures and what’s normal - Utah is the holy land bc that’s where the pioneers settled - The underwear and outfits just aren’t true, but we do have garnments which are optional to wear. They are just a reminder to keep our bodies clean - Again, tithing is optional, no, kids do not usually pay it, and we believe everyone gets into heaven almost no matter what (you have to be as bad as satan or hitler or Cane to get into hell) - Revenues literally go to building churches and temples to bring people to Christ, to save them - We do not own any of those things actually, I mean I guess we do have a couple small museum type things - If you tell the missionaries you don’t want them to come, they will not come, and they will not not lie or do anything you told them not to. They are like the best people

0:01 It’s not a cult, it’s a church that has it’s own religions. 0:07 so you didn’t want to make a promise with god to extent your loving relationship about your religion with other people? 0:12 also, there is a verse in the Book of Mormon where god loves everyone equally. 0:28 just today, I saw a woman with pants at my church. She actually has a very hood calling for the church, and has many spiritual things happen to her. 0:31 you are allowed to do things on Sunday, but some things are restricted due to the day being sacred to the religion. Sunday’s are meant for everyone to love and get together with their families. There are many activities you can do on sundays as well. It’s mostly just sports and shopping that aren’t really good to do, but you have the complete right to do them. You can watch TV as well, by the way. 0:35 coffee and tea are things I didn’t understand very well, but I like to ignore them because either way they are bad for you can don’t seem much of a problem. By the way, coffee and tea can be very addictive. 0:43 that was very rude and unwise of him. 0:51 so you didn’t want to give a talk in the church because you didn’t want too? Uhm. As a Mormon giving a talk is one of the most incredible things that I can possibly feel. It makes my heart happy since I can feel the love of the spirit. 0:55 yes, Adam and Eve are a perfect example of not being gay. Being gay means that you cant have children. While the opposite means you can live with your family. Also, I wouldn’t recommend going to BYU if you feel this way. 0:58 what’s wrong with that? Either way, the second coming is when we all migrate to Missouri. 1:02 yes, garments. It’s a loving way of showing your relationship with your religion. Besides, they seem very comfortable, and I’m only 14. 1:07 giving your tithing is meant for the restricted people who are disabled. The 10% money members donate if to help the lives of others. I’m 14, and I’m a kid. Giving 10% of the 10 dollars I have isn’t something horrible. 1:26 hunt you down? Serving a mission isn’t forcing people to believe in their religion. Instead we leave it optional but try to teach it to you.

Just two days prior to this post I was in Vernal and was talking to a Mormon about how beautiful Vernal was. My mouth dropped when he stated that they didn't want my kind down there. I'm assuming he was being racist due to my Hispanic heritage or maybe he is just an asshole but I have never had an experience like that. I saw red at that point but continued to be polite. Let's just say I'm headed back to Oklahoma next month. I can't believe the big 12 let BYU into our conference.

There is a difference between LDS and Mormons Mormons don't take the church all that seriously and try to fool God so they think they can get away with anything. LDS on the other hand they take the church seriously and want to teach other people about the gospel and try thier best to be kind
@Fashn4LaDieS2 ай бұрын
Vernal is built on quicksand. My son was a police officer there, & transferred. When he placed a pencil on his table, it would roll. There are a lot of under ground springs there. You dodged a bullet, but most LDS people aren't racist, since you can see our apostles come from all corners of the earth. I'm sorry you ran into a snot, who doesn't understand God loves ALL of his children.

I understand that what you are going through is hard. Its not your fault. Your parents did not explain clearly to you what you needed to know at 8 years old during baptism. If what you said is true, that you didn't know what you were going into, then you are right that is your parents AND your grandparents fault. You deserved the true knowledge. In "The Covenant of Baptism: To Be in the Kingdom and of the Kingdom" by Robert D. Hales, he urges parents AND grandparents to explain clearly what baptism means for 8 year olds. He also mentioned that, when Adults get baptized, they more fully understand the covenant promises that they are making. To take the Lords name upon them, and to always remember him, and there are more. Please I encourage everyone who wants to learn more about baptism, or is struggling with it, please read what Robert D. Hales said. It changed my life. I have given up video games and other things that have taken all my time and energy. As my life is completely centered on Christ, my life has been transformed. I know that the gospel is true. Please give the Lord a change to bless you!

LDS member here, who what you guys call Mormon! I just wanted to say that most stuff here is true but not true at the same time! My friend from another church had came to me showing me this exclaiming about how she is spreading false information about my church! Every Sunday, we go to church. Our church lasts 2 hours. The first hour is sacrament meeting! That's when 3-4 people give talks about topics that they were given by our bishop! Before the talks, we take the sacrament. We focus on hor Jesus was resurrected, unlike most churches who focus on him dying for us! We have 2 books, The Bible and book of Mormon! The Book of Mormon is a series of prophets or just people who like had experiences like Nephi and Moroni! At the end, I believe Moroni challenges us to pray to Heavenly Father, not Jesus, about the book of Mormon. People assume that we are Mormons because of the Book of Mormon, but we are infact Latter Day saints, which are Christians! Sundays for us are rest days! Your allowed to go on nature walks and watch TV, it just depends on your household rules! Missionaries aren't going to hunt you down lol, they just simply knock on your door to spread the gospel for the gathering of Israel! We pay 10% of earnings to our church to be used to build temples and donate to charity. The founder, Joseph Smith, translated the Book of Mormon and restored the church! Also, there has never been a rule that people of color can't attend our church! Yes, Cane was cursed with black skin for commiting the first murder, but that doesn't mean all people of color are cursed. Missionaries are called to serve and spread the gospel, they don't force anything. You can leave the church whenever you like, but we aren't a cult!

Half of this video is either lies or misleading at best. I’m ex member as well but she’s not telling the truth. I HATE defending this religion but I also hate peoples misleading/lying. Here are some examples of her not telling the truth. She claims that “up until 1978, anyone other than pasty white people, could not WORSHIP or hold any position in the church.” THIS is an example of one truth and one lie. Block people couldn’t hold the Melchizedek Priesthood that is true. It is a LIE that black people couldn’t worship in the church. Woman ARE allowed to wear pants to church. This video is from 2022. She’s lying. Women might have been “looked down upon” for wearing pants to church but they absolutely CAN wear pants to church. Female missionaries do it. Church is NOT 3 hours long. This used to be true but it changed to two hours in 2019, 3 years before this video was uploaded. LIE. One persons opinion on women working is not official church doctoring. She’s not lying here someone likely said it but that’s one person’s interpretation. You CAN be gay at BYU, you cannot, however, perform same sex acts. While I don’t agree with this, it’s misleading nonetheless. Utah is not considered “the holy land.” It’s not the Mecca like in Islam or Jerusalem etc. Some may have called it a holy land but it’s not doctrinal. this is misleading and untrue.

Joseph actually had 40 wife’s some of which were 14 but polygamy is very discouraged nowadays There’s literally no dress code so all people can come what are you talking about You can do other things on Sunday’s it’s discoraged to buy stuff or do thing that require the service of employed people. And they don’t like it if you work on Sunday but otherwise who cars also 2 hours Your right no coffee or tea mainly because of caffeine and coffee is more addicting then coke that’s why That talk that guy gave suprised me but trust me one guys words aren’t the entire church’s Yes bishops and other leader can ask you to give testimony and talks BUT YOUR ALLOWED TO SAY NO WITH NO PUNISHMENT Banning rainbow flags doesn’t mean no gay people it’s probably about the propaganda but you can be a gay and go to byu Yeah we do think the holy land is in Utah the Missouri thing the church doesn’t push out anymore so I think it was a honest mistake You always have to wear certain under where. and special cloths are always required for temples There not gonna point a gun to your head or kick you out if you don’t but it is highly encouraged All of things the church owns and has shares in are to get more money and most of the money goes to the member of the church a lot of which is very charitable like helping men ever who can’t afford a meal they take care of there members No they don’t it’s a just chance you live in a high missionary area also you can ask to get your records removed no quitmormon.com Sorry for long comment

Let's weigh the amount of evidence in order to make a good determination. 1) Joseph Smith did not tell anyone he had seen God the Father and Jesus Christ, and it wasn't until 1838 that he had his scribe write it down -- years after the claimed event. Assistant Church Historian Dr. James B. Allen wrote an article in 1966 saying that "none of the available contemporary writings about Joseph Smith in the 1830's, none of the publications of the Church in that decade, and no contemporary journal or correspondence yet discovered mentions the story of the first vision...." The first time Joseph Smith told of his First Vision it was 1832 when he said it was a visitation of "the Lord" who told him his sins were forgiven. He said (and he wrote in his own handwriting) "I saw the Lord." Joseph Smith did not say he saw the Father. Then in 1835 he dictated an account to his scribe, Warren Parrish, who wrote it in Joseph Smith's 1835-6 Diary. In this account Joseph says "A pillar of fire appeared above my head,...a personage appeared in the midst of this pillar of flame which was spread all around, and yet nothing consumed, another personage appeared, he said unto me 'thy sins are forgiven thee, he testifyed [sic] unto me that Jesus Christ is the Son of God; and I saw many angels in this vision." Joseph did not claim these personages were the Father and the Son until 1842. Even the Deseret News did not say Joseph Smith had seen the Father and the Son. In 1852 they published the church's account of Joseph Smith First Vision, where they said Joseph had given an account of his "first Visitation of Angels, which was when I was about fourteen years old..." It was not until Joseph Smith CHANGED his theology away from a Trinitarian viewpoint over to a belief that God and Jesus were personages of separate bodies that Joseph Smith began to claim he saw the Father and the Son. His accounts of the First Vision did not start until 1832 when he wrote down one account saying he "saw the Lord." In 1832 he still believed in the Trinity. He gradually changed his theology until 1842 when he developed the idea that God the Father and Jesus were 2 separate persons. The story regarding Peter, James and John coming to visit was concocted much later. In fact Joseph never even gave a date, month or year when Peter, James and John supposedly visited. You'd think he would have remembered that!!!! Date unknown, is all we know. Also this newly developing theology conflicts with Joseph Smith's earlier theology. Notice Joseph Smith has a Prophet state in the Book of Mormon that the dead will not rise until the Second Coming (Alma 40:2). So how could the resurrected Peter, James, and John have physically appeared to Joseph Smith? These glitches (and there are many more) are evidence that Joseph Smith concocted these stories, just as he concocted the Golden Plates, and the story of Moroni, who in the earliest accounts is named as being "The Prophet Nephi." And you KNOW this is true? How? Because you have a "feeling." The followers of Jim Jones (People's Temple) *also had a strong witness from God* that Jim Jones was God's spokesman. And they were willing to die for this testimony! And they did die for it. Are you claiming that YOUR testimony is the only valid one, and everyone else who has a witness about a faith that conflicts with yours is incorrect? Of course that is your claim. The *Followers of Heaven's Gate all testified of the Truthfulness* and warm witness from God they had of their faith. FEELINGS are NOT TRUTH. The Truth is found by having EVIDENCE to back it up. There is NONE for Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. WAKE UP before it is too late!

From the beginning Jesus preached marriage between one man and one woman. There are examples of polygamy in the Old Testament but this was certainly not mainstream after Christ. Mormon doctrine promoted racist and polygamist ideology that they later went back on after “new revelations.” This is absurd to me because you can’t have new revelations when politically/socially convenient.
