Express Water - House Sediment Filter Replacement

This video is an older "do-over" that shows how to replace the sediment filter in a Express Water house filtration system. The video is longer than planned as I ran into some interesting issues along the way (it didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped!); however, that just means more opportunities to learn and figure out the problems. As a service technician I would suggest drilling and tapping the center of the bottom of the filter bowl to 1/4” and installing sample valves. The blue housings are more malleable and easier to tap. The clear one just take your time tapping it because it’s harder plastic. Makes it easier, you can drain the bowl completely and no mess. I never trust the relief button and only use them when necessary because there is a small o ring in there that can get unseated and is a pain to get back into its spot to properly seal it.

Did you figure out where the plastic ring went? Was your placement shown correct?

The ring isn’t necessary, it must be a guide. I tossed mine as I’ve never seen one in the industry. The hole in the top and bottom fit into the housing and hold it in place on its own

You’re fouling your sediment filter quickly by not having a 50um spin down filter upstream of the system.

Thank you for watching the video. I went back and forth on the need for a spin down filter because we are on city water. I would have one if I was on well water. The sediment filter is replaced once a year and that works for me. Thank you for the feedback! -Dutch
