My experience is that we seldom know anybody. And this is a hundred times more true to those we encounter online. All we know is what they choose to reveal, and this portrayal can be very different from who they actually are. Every expression is, in a sense, a double move. The first is to reveal something that we aspire to be. The second is to conceal the truth we choose to keep hidden. Only one person, as far as I am concerned, knows us for who we truly are. There is no use in fooling Him. But understanding people from media like this is like discerning from shadows; we never see the reality in its fullness. We only ever see a vague approximation of what may or may not be there.
